The Model 400829 wheel to wheel step brackets are designed for 2008 and newer Ford Super Duty Pickups. If your vehicle is a 2008 or newer Super Duty, these brackets are compatible. For vehicles outside this model year range, contact the manufacturer or a Curt dealer to confirm fitment.
The kit includes: 2 front mounting brackets (551855), 6 standard mounting brackets (551854), 8 U-nuts (104264), 10 serrated flange nuts in 5/16" size (102680), 10 zinc-plated hex head cap screws in 5/16" (100647), 10 zinc-plated flat washers in 5/16" (100034), 2 rear inboard mounting brackets (551642), 2 lower outboard mounting brackets (551878), 2 hex head cap screws in 7/16" (100070), 2 serrated flange nuts in 7/16" (103737), 4 flat washers in 7/16" (100081), 2 flat washers in 3/8" (100062), 2 rubber washers (102592), 2 double-ended studs in 3/8" (104687), and 6 serrated flange nuts in 3/8" (100181). The step assembly itself is not included and must be reviewed separately per the instructions.
Read the complete installation instructions and verify that all required parts listed in the Service Parts List are on hand before starting. The manual emphasizes this as the first step to ensure you have everything needed and understand the full process before beginning work.
Install 5/16" multi-thread U-nuts (item #8) in the top rear hole of the first, second, and third rocker panel patterns, and in the front top hole of the fifth (rear) pattern. Insert the threaded half of the U-nut through the large access holes in the rocker panel and slide it toward the round hole until it seats. The threads must face toward the inside of the rocker panel.
Position the front bracket (item #1) and standard brackets (item #2) so the top hole aligns with the U-nut and the bottom hole aligns with the pinch weld hole. Attach the top with a 5/16" × 1.00" zinc-plated hex head cap screw (item #6) and 5/16" zinc-plated flat washer (item #7). Attach the bottom to the pinch weld with a 5/16" × 1.00" black-plated hex head cap screw (item #3), 5/16" black-plated flat washer (item #4), and 5/16" serrated flange nut (item #5). Level the brackets and tighten all bolts.
The front mounting bracket (item #1) has a 3/16" offset at the top of the bracket. This offset must be accounted for when positioning the bracket so the top hole aligns correctly with the U-nut.
Attach the rear inboard mounting bracket (item #9) against the top of the vehicle spring hanger so that the flat surfaces meet and the short leg is in a vertical position. Install a 7/16-14 × 1-1/2" hex head screw and flat washer (items #11 and #13) down through the top of the bracket and the spring shackle mount. Attach a 7/16-14 serrated flange nut and washer (items #12 and #13) to secure it.
Install the bottom outboard mounting bracket (item #10) so its vertical surface meets the inboard bracket. At the top mounting location, install one 3/8-16 double-ended stud (item #14), three serrated 3/8-16 nuts (item #15), one washer (item #16), and one rubber washer (item #17). Position the rubber washer on the head of the bolt that fastens the leaf spring. Then install two 5/16-18 × 1.00" hex head cap screws with washers and serrated flange nuts (items #6, #7, and #5). Finger-tighten all fasteners until the step is in place.
Torque all 5/16" fasteners to 19 lb-ft.
Torque all 7/16" fasteners to 40 lb-ft.
After the brackets are installed and leveled, review the separate installation instructions included with your step assembly for specific details on attaching the step to the brackets. The step assembly is not part of the bracket kit and has its own installation procedure.

Finger-tighten the fasteners at the lower outboard mounting bracket location (at the spring hanger) until the step is in place, then apply final torque. All other fasteners should be tightened after leveling the brackets.
