We know the job doesn't make exceptions to keep your vehicle looking pretty, and that is why Grip Step running boards are made from aluminum and shielded in a tough powder coat finish. We use a 5052 aluminum alloy to provide maximum strength and unstoppable rust resistance. To finish things off and add a professional touch, we also apply a durable textured black powder coat and contoured black plastic end caps to further protect against dirt, moisture and other threats on the job. To make installation as simple as possible, Grip Step 7" running boards are each designed for a custom-fit installation, using vehicle-specific mounting brackets. The brackets are covered in a durable black powder coat finish and bolt onto the boards using stainless steel fasteners for long-lasting strength. This particular set of Grip Step running boards is designed to fit specific years of the Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500 or 5500 and Dodge Ram 1500 (see application info to verify fitment). These running boards come with brackets, but the brackets are shipped separately.

For the upper mounting flanges, it includes 12 each of M8 X 25mm hex head screws and 5/16" flat washers. For trucks without threaded inserts, it also includes 6 T-bolt weldments, 6 M8 flange nuts, and 6 plastic bolt retainers.
It depends on your truck's rocker panel configuration. If your truck has obround holes in the pinchweld, no drilling is required. However, 2009–2012 Dodge Ram 1500 trucks do not have obround holes in the pinchweld and will require drilling two 5/16" holes for each bracket. Follow the positioning procedure in step 2.5 to mark the correct drilling locations.
Trucks with threaded inserts in the rocker panel use M8 X 25mm screws with 5/16" flat washers inserted through the upper mounting flange slots (steps 2.1–2.4). Trucks without threaded inserts require installation of a T-bolt weldment into the large obround hole in the rocker panel, with a plastic bolt retainer attached to prevent the T-bolt from falling inside the panel, followed by assembly of the bracket using carriage bolts on the lower flange and the T-bolt on the upper flange (steps 2.5–2.10).
On the driver's side, use item #1 (front bracket) for the front position, item #2 (middle bracket) for the middle position, and item #2 (rear bracket) for the rear position. The lower mounting flange must be positioned to the outside of the pinchweld, with the two rectangular holes aligned with the obround holes in the pinchweld.
The passenger side installation is a mirror image of the driver's side. Use item #2 for the front bracket, item #1 for the middle bracket, and item #1 for the rear bracket. Follow the same alignment and fastening procedures as the driver's side.
No. Leave all fasteners finger tight during initial installation. Install the step plates and adjust the brackets and boards before tightening all fasteners to their final specification.
The plastic bolt retainer is attached to the threaded stud of the T-bolt weldment to prevent the T-bolt from falling into the rocker panel cavity during installation. This is a critical safety step for trucks without threaded inserts.
Insert the T-bolt weldment (item #9) into the large obround hole in the vertical wall of the rocker panel with the nut end first, leaving the threaded stud sticking out of the hole. Attach the plastic bolt retainer to the threaded stud to keep the T-bolt from falling into the rocker panel. Then rotate the T-bolt so the threaded nut is visible through the slotted hole in the upper mounting flange before inserting the M8 X 25mm screw.
Drill two 5/16" holes for each bracket. To locate the holes correctly, follow step 2.5 to position the bracket, then mark the pinchweld for drilling before drilling the holes.
The lower mounting flange uses two 1/4-20 X 1" carriage bolts (stainless steel, part #101320) per bracket, with 1/4" flat washers (part #101370) and 1/4-20 flange nuts (part #102366). These fasteners are inserted through the lower mounting flange and the pinchweld obround holes.
The upper mounting flange uses M8 X 25mm hex head screws (part #102549) with 5/16" flat washers (part #100034) for trucks with threaded inserts. For trucks without threaded inserts, the upper flange also uses an M8 flange nut (part #105859) on the T-bolt weldment.
