Reese has designed towing equipment since 1952 and remains a benchmark for heavy-duty towing. Reese has been pioneering towing performance since 1952, when Margaret Reese asked her husband TJ to stop travel trailers rocking every time somebody walked through them. His answer, the first pair of stabilising jacks, was simple and effective enough to change the RV industry. From that starting point Reese grew into a designer and manufacturer of complete towing systems, and today it anchors the heavy-duty end of the Horizon Global towing portfolio.
Fifth wheel towing is where the brand's engineering is most visible. The M5 fifth wheel hitch uses a modular design that breaks into manageable sections for assembly, with a wider stance, tighter tolerances and a shock absorption system aimed at the jolts that travel up through a truck bed. For owners who would rather tow from a gooseneck coupler and keep the bed clear, the Goose Box 20K replaces the trailer's king pin with a gooseneck connection carrying its own air-ride cushioning.
Pin boxes are a Reese speciality. The 5th Airborne uses air-ride technology to dampen road shock and reduce the chucking motion that makes fifth wheel towing tiring, while the Sidewinder was designed for short-bed pickups, pivoting the connection point so the trailer can turn sharply without the front cap meeting the cab.
For conventional towing, Reese weight distribution systems restore load to the tow vehicle's front axle and control sway. The Pro Round Bar distributes weight evenly while damping sway, and the Pro Dual Cam II uses active cam-based sway control that works harder the stronger the sway force becomes. Complete kits pair bars, head and shank to a rated tongue weight, and dedicated sway control kits can be added to existing setups. The products suit RV owners, horse and livestock haulers and anyone towing near the upper end of a vehicle's rating.

The Reese Elite Series Gooseneck Hitch is designed for Ford Super Duty pickup trucks only. However, it requires a separate Ford Super Duty Rail Kit (sold separately) to attach. Your truck must have a bed at least 6 feet long; short bed trucks shorter than 6 ft are not compatible. A long bed (8 ft) is recommended for the best truck-trailer turning clearance.
No. The manual explicitly warns: "Do Not install this REESE® Elite™ Series Gooseneck Hitch on or attempt to tow with a short bed pickup truck that has a bed shorter than 6 ft." A minimum 6 ft bed is required; an 8 ft long bed is recommended for optimal clearance.
The hitch assembly includes: (1) Gooseneck Assembly, (4) ¾" x 2.0" Carriage Bolts, (4) ¾" Conical Washers, and (4) ¾" Hex Nuts. The Rail Kit is sold separately and is required for installation.

Yes. The Rail Kit is sold separately and is required for installation. The manual states: "Rail kit sold separately" and "THIS GOOSENECK WILL ONLY ATTACH TO FORD SUPER DUTY RAIL KIT."
Yes. A 3½" hole must be drilled in the center of the truck bed. Locate the dimple in the depression in the middle of the truck bed and use a 3½" hole saw to cut the hole at that location. If there are no dimples, measure from the rear of the bed forward 46-3/8" and find the center of the bed by measuring between the fender wells or a visible weld seam, then drill the 3½" hole at that location.
All four ¾" carriage bolts must be tightened to 180 ft-lbs. The bolts should be left loose during initial assembly and alignment, then tightened to 180 ft-lbs only after the top of the gooseneck receiver tube is located in the 3½" hole.
1. Check all components against the parts list. 2. Locate the dimple in the truck bed center and drill a 3½" hole using a hole saw. 3. Place the gooseneck hitch under the truck and slide the ¾" carriage bolts through the rail kit openings. 4. Slide the gooseneck center section up around the bolts, place a washer and nut on each bolt, but do not tighten. 5. Locate the collar in the 3½" hole. 6. Once the top of the gooseneck receiver tube is in the hole, tighten all hardware to 180 ft-lbs.
No. The manual explicitly states: "DO NOT TIGHTEN THE HARDWARE AT THIS TIME" after placing washers and nuts on the bolts in Step 4. Bolts should remain loose until the gooseneck receiver tube is properly located in the 3½" hole, then all hardware is tightened to 180 ft-lbs in Step 6.
Use only a SAE 2-inch kingpin with the Reese Elite Series Gooseneck Hitch. This is a required specification for safe operation.
Gross trailer weight must not exceed 25,000 pounds. Additionally, the trailer weight should not exceed the lowest of three ratings: the tow vehicle's manufacturer tow rating, the hitch rating, or the trailer's rating. Failure to follow these limits could result in vehicle damage or truck and trailer separation.
Pin weight must not exceed 6,250 pounds. Approximately 15-25% of the gross trailer weight should be on the hitch (pin weight). If in doubt, have the pin weight measured by a qualified facility.
Allow approximately 6 inches of clearance between the top of the pickup bed walls and the underside of the front of the trailer for pitch and roll of the trailer during towing. Allow more clearance for off-road use. The coupler height should be adjusted so the trailer is approximately level as it is towed. Use the formula: D – C + 2" > 6", where D and C are measured as shown in Figure 6.
With the trailer leveled and on level ground: (1) Measure from the ground to the coupler (Dimension A). (2) Measure from the inside of the truck bed to the ground (Dimension B). (3) Calculate: Hitch Height = A – B + 2". The 2" value estimates suspension compression due to kingpin weight, which typically ranges 1-5" depending on the truck and trailer. Also verify that D – C + 2" is greater than 6" for adequate clearance over side rails.
The connection for trailer wiring must be located at the side of the truck bed between the driver's seat and the rear wheel. This location prevents operators from working between the truck and trailer, reducing the risk of serious injury or death from unexpected movement.
If you must place any part of your body under the trailer or between the truck and trailer, you MUST perform ALL of the following steps: (1) Check that the truck transmission is in park. (2) Check that the emergency brake is on. (3) Block in front of and behind all trailer tires. (4) Check that the trailer landing gear are resting on firm ground. Unexpected or accidental movement can cause serious injury or death.
The distance from the back of the truck cab to the center of the rear truck axle (X) should be approximately 4 inches greater than one-half the trailer width (Y). This helps ensure adequate turning clearance and stability. However, these measurements are guidelines; if your measurements are close to these numbers, re-check clearances. Additional checks are required if the vehicle or trailer has added bed vicinity accessories such as fairings, air dams, ground effects, or bed rails.
Key guidelines include: (1) Connect safety chains properly every time you tow, leaving only enough slack for full turning. (2) Make trailer light, turn signal, electric brake, and breakaway switch connections every time you tow, no matter how short the trip. (3) Check the ball, coupler, chains, and all connections every time you tow and at fuel/rest stops. (4) Never allow passengers in the trailer. (5) Load heavy objects on the floor ahead of the axle, balance side-to-side, and load heavier in the front but not exceeding the hitch's tongue weight rating. (6) Allow extra time for passing, stopping, and changing lanes. (7) Drive slowly on rough roads. (8) Stop and inspect if any part of the towing system strikes the road.
