From that starting point Reese grew into a designer and manufacturer of complete towing systems, and today it anchors the heavy-duty end of the Horizon Global towing portfolio.
Fifth wheel towing is where the brand's engineering is most visible. The M5 fifth wheel hitch uses a modular design that breaks into manageable sections for assembly, with a wider stance, tighter tolerances and a shock absorption system aimed at the jolts that travel up through a truck bed. For owners who would rather tow from a gooseneck coupler and keep the bed clear, the Goose Box 20K replaces the trailer's king pin with a gooseneck connection carrying its own air-ride cushioning.
Pin boxes are a Reese speciality. The 5th Airborne uses air-ride technology to dampen road shock and reduce the chucking motion that makes fifth wheel towing tiring, while the Sidewinder was designed for short-bed pickups, pivoting the connection point so the trailer can turn sharply without the front cap meeting the cab.
For conventional towing, Reese weight distribution systems restore load to the tow vehicle's front axle and control sway. The Pro Round Bar distributes weight evenly while damping sway, and the Pro Dual Cam II uses active cam-based sway control that works harder the stronger the sway force becomes. Complete kits pair bars, head and shank to a rated tongue weight, and dedicated sway control kits can be added to existing setups. The 94920 is a 20,000 lbs rated gooseneck hitch designed to connect a gooseneck trailer to a pickup truck. It features an air suspension system, a coupler mechanism that locks onto a 2 5/16" diameter gooseneck ball mounted in the truck bed, and adjustable wing sets for different trailer types. It is rated for a maximum pin weight (vertical load on the ball) of 4,000 lbs.
The 94920 is designed for use only with a 2 5/16" diameter gooseneck ball. The ball must be locked within the housing of the truck bed.
The manual provides examples of compatible Lippert wing sets: the 1621 (which offers 2 inches of adjustment with 2 mounting positions), the 1716 (which offers 2.5 inches of adjustment with 2 mounting positions), and the Rhino (which has 1 mounting position with a maximum load rating of 20,000 lbs). The maximum gross trailer weight (the weight of the trailer plus all cargo) for the 94920 is 20,000 lbs. This must not be exceeded, and the combined weight of the trailer and its contents must not exceed the lowest rating of the truck, hitch, or trailer.
The maximum pin weight (vertical downward force exerted on the gooseneck ball by the Goosebox) is 4,000 lbs. The Goosebox is designed for a maximum of 20% of the gross trailer weight on the gooseneck ball. Pin weight should be measured with the fully loaded trailer on a level surface and the Goosebox at normal towing height.
A minimum clearance of 2 feet between the bumper and trailer (measured at the same height) is recommended. This should be checked before towing, and if clearance is less than 2 feet, verify clearance by making a slow turn in a controlled driving environment (such as a closed parking lot or grass field) with an observer watching for interference.
Approximately 7 inches of clearance should be allowed between the top of the bedside and the underside of the front of the trailer to accommodate pitch and yaw of the trailer during towing. For off-road use, monitor closely and allow more clearance. The Goosebox height should be adjusted so the trailer is approximately level as it is towed.
Yes. If the vehicle or trailer has any added vanity accessories such as fairings, air dams, ground effects, bed rails, or other modifications, additional dimensioning and clearance checks must be made. Horizon Global is not responsible for damage incurred due to disregarding these clearance checks.
The fastener kit 94621F is included and contains: 8 hex bolts (Grade 8, 5/8"-11 x 2.00"), 8 conical washers (5/8"), 8 flat washers (5/8"), and 8 hex nuts (Grade 8, 5/8"-11). These fasteners are used to attach the wing sets to the Goosebox.
Required tools include: a 15/16" socket, a 15/16" wrench, a torque wrench capable of reaching 250 ft-lbs, lithium grease, and equipment for lifting approximately 250 lbs. Two people are recommended for the air fill procedure.
Before filling the air system, ensure: (1) you are 100% coupled with the coupler latched and locked (refer to hitching procedures on pages 7-8); (2) the trailer and tow vehicle are on level ground with the vehicle in park and park brake applied; (3) wheel chocks are positioned firmly against the front and rear of each towing vehicle and trailer tire to prevent forward or rearward motion; and (4) do not remove blocks until all air fill steps are completed.
Two people are recommended. One person should be in the truck filling the air valve (located at position 1 of Figure 15), and the second person should stand outside the truck watching the Air Inflation Visual Indicator (position 2 of Figure 15). Horizon Global advises against filling the air system with only one person.
The hitching sequence is: (1) Place wheel chocks firmly against the front and rear of each trailer tire and do not remove until all steps are complete; (2) Ensure the gooseball is locked within the truck bed housing and is a 2 5/16" diameter ball; (3) Ensure the coupler handle is in the locked position and not limited by the pull cable or debris; (4) Back the truck into the trailer slowly until the coupler is above the gooseball; (5) Lower the coupler onto the gooseneck ball—the handle will open then snap shut; (6) Make certain the handle has returned forward and is in the locked position before towing; (7) Visually inspect from the side that the gooseneck ball is completely recessed inside the coupler; (8) After the handle is locked, raise the trailer jacks to ensure the Goosebox is locked onto the ball.
The unhitching sequence is: (1) Ensure the truck is in park with emergency brake on; (2) Place wheel chocks firmly against the front and rear of each trailer tire; (3) Lower the trailer landing gear until its feet rest on firm ground (follow trailer manual directions); (4) Lower the truck tailgate; (5) Disconnect the power cable and breakaway switch cable; (6) Using the pull cable, pull the handle back and hook the cable stop onto the bracket so the handle is in the unlocked position (Figure 13); (7) Raise the trailer until the bottom of the coupler is approximately one inch above the top of the gooseneck ball, then release the cable; (8) Ensure the coupler latch returns to the locked position.
If necessary, adjust the cable stop by loosening the small set screw (Allen wrench size 0.050"), moving the cable stop to the desired position, and then retightening the set screw.
All bolts in the fastener kit (5/8"-11 x 2.00" Grade 8 bolts) must be torqued to 210 ft-lbs.
The bolts are Grade 8 (GR8), 5/8"-11 x 2.00" in size. Eight bolts are included in the fastener kit 94621F.
Installation order from outside to inside: (1) 5/8" flat washer installed on the outside of the trailer wing; (2) 5/8"-11 x 2.00" Grade 8 bolt; (3) 5/8" conical washer installed on the inside of the Goosebox with the crowned shape and teeth against the inside of the Goosebox; (4) 5/8"-11 Grade 8 nut. All bolts must be torqued to 210 ft-lbs.
The breakaway switch can be mounted on the left or right side of the Goosebox in the location shown in Figure 26. The breakaway cable should be long enough to allow for the full turning radius of the truck and trailer.
The Goosebox has multiple pinch points that can cause serious injury. Keep fingers and all other body parts away from these pinch points. The coupler may also have sharp edges. The only safe place to touch is the air inflation valve.

Place heavy objects on the floor ahead of the axle and balance the load side-to-side. Secure the load to prevent shifting. Never load the trailer rear-heavy. Load the trailer heavier in the front, but the pin weight must not exceed 4,000 lbs. Do not load the trailer heavier behind the axle(s).
Before each trip: (1) Check the condition of all towing equipment and keep it in proper working condition; (2) Check that all bolts and nuts are properly tightened; (3) Check that the airbag pressure is set for your vehicle and loaded trailer (note: the airbag can lose pressure with temperature changes when not in use); (4) Check the functionality of the coupler pull handle to ensure it moves in both locked and unlocked positions.
After lowering the coupler onto the gooseneck ball, visually inspect from the side of your vehicle to confirm that the gooseneck ball is completely recessed inside the Goosebox coupler. After the handle is in the locked position, raise the trailer jacks to ensure the Goosebox is locked onto the gooseneck ball.
Maintenance includes: (1) Before each use, grease the coupler shaft from the fitting on the backside of the coupler; (2) Clean and grease the gooseneck ball; (3) Before each use, grease the main pivot shaft from the fitting on the inner bushing (deflating the airbag may make this easier); (4) Inspect the Goosebox for any damage or excessive wear; (5) Once per season, fully deflate the airbag and then refill; (6) Perform normal maintenance when taking the unit out of storage.
Lithium grease should be used for all greasing points on the Goosebox.
For added safety, the Reese 20K Rated Safety Chain (part number 49151) is recommended. When not in use, put the safety chain hooks into the supplied safety chain holes for proper storage.
Connect safety chains properly every time you tow. Leave only enough slack to permit full turning. Too much slack may prevent chains from maintaining control if other connections separate. Ensure safety chains are securely mounted and free from obstructions, and that chains are free of snags through the full turning radius.

The 94920 is designed for pickup trucks with a 2 5/16" diameter gooseneck ball mounted in the truck bed. The coupler handle should open when the coupler is lowered onto the gooseneck ball, then snap shut automatically. If the handle does not snap shut, the coupler may not be properly seated on the ball. The airbag can lose pressure with temperature changes when not in use. Before each trip, check that the airbag pressure is set for your vehicle and loaded trailer. If pressure loss is significant, verify the air chuck is properly connected to the airbag fill valve (shown in Figure 17) and that the automatic air relief valve has not been activated. The airbag is equipped with an automatic air relief valve. If the airbag is over-inflated, the relief valve will automatically activate and release air to a safe level. No manual intervention is required.
