Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The Tekonsha Tow Harness, 7-Way TK118266 (Part #TK118266) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The 118266-037 T-Connector is designed for Nissan Pathfinder, Nissan Xterra, Nissan Frontier, and Nissan Equator models. Verify your vehicle model matches one of these applications before purchasing.
The kit includes the jumper harness with relays, a 7-way socket, cable ties, and foam tape. The 7-way socket bracket or electrical box is not included and must be sourced separately.
You will need a test-probe and a trim panel puller. The test-probe is used to verify the installation after completion, and the trim panel puller is used to safely remove the passenger side floor sill and kick panel without damaging fasteners.
The 12-pin jumper plug is located in the vehicle cab on the passenger's side, behind the kick panel. You will need to remove the passenger side floor sill and kick panel to access it.
The vehicle tow plugs are located near the driver's side rear tire, underneath the vehicle. Remove the protective caps before connecting the T-Connector harness.
You must use the relays included with the 118266-037 kit. The manual states that using relays that differ from the included relays can result in the unit not functioning or may damage the vehicle and/or trailer.
Use a trim panel puller to temporarily remove the passenger side floor sill. First pull upwards, then pull out towards the rear of the vehicle. Be careful not to damage the panel fasteners during removal.
Insert the jumper harness with relays into the vehicle's 12-pin harness and lock into place. Ensure that the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Secure the remainder of the jumper harness with the provided cable ties and foam tape to prevent damage or rattling, being careful to avoid areas that would cut or pinch the wire.
From underneath the vehicle, connect the T-Connector end to the vehicle's mating connector located near the driver's side rear tire. Be careful not to damage the locking tabs and ensure that connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. All connector surfaces should be clean and free of dirt before connecting.
Plug the 7-way socket into the Trailer Tow Harness and route it to the center of the vehicle. Mount the 7-way end in an accessible location using a bracket or electrical box (not included). Secure the harness with provided cable ties to prevent damage or rattling, avoiding areas that would cut or pinch the wire.
Do not exceed the lower of your vehicle manufacturer's rating or these limits: stop/turn lights 10 amps, tail lights 10 amps, backup lights 10 amps, power circuit 20 amps, and trailer brakes 18 amps (for 3 axles/6 brakes). Overloading the circuit can cause fires. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual for additional information.
After installation is complete, test and verify the installation using a test light or by connecting a trailer. All connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly. The manual requires verification before the installation is considered complete.
Yes. All connector surfaces should be clean and free of dirt before connecting the T-Connector to the vehicle's tow plugs. This ensures proper electrical contact and reliable operation.
Remove the protective caps from the vehicle tow plugs and return them to the customer. The manual does not specify whether they should be stored for future use or discarded.
The 118266-037 T-Connector fits Nissan Pathfinder, Xterra, Frontier, and Equator models.
You need a test-probe and a trim panel puller. The trim panel puller is used to safely remove interior panels, and the test-probe verifies the installation.
No. The 7-way socket bracket or electrical box is not included and must be sourced separately. The kit includes the socket itself, cable ties, and foam tape.
No. You must use the included relays. Using different relays can cause the unit to malfunction or damage the vehicle and/or trailer.
The maximum trailer brake amperage is 18 amps for 3 axles/6 brakes. Do not exceed this limit or the vehicle manufacturer's rating, whichever is lower, to prevent circuit overload and fire risk.
Test the installation using a test light or by connecting a trailer. All connections must be complete and properly seated for the T-Connector to function. Verification is required before the installation is complete.
