Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The Tekonsha Tow Harness, 7-Way TK118286 (Part #TK118286) fits the following vehicles: 2016-2022 Honda Pilot. Always verify your specific year, make, and model before ordering.
The Tekonsha Tow Harness, 7-Way TK118286 (Part #TK118286) Drilling is required for installation. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, the T-One® Connector part 118286-037 is designed for Honda Pilot vehicles. The installation requires access to the factory white tow plug located in the rear cargo area storage compartment.
The T-One® Connector is a trailer tow harness that connects to your vehicle's factory tow plug and provides a 7-way connector for trailer wiring. It includes a black box module that manages electrical connections for trailer lights, brakes, backup camera, and charging functions.
You will need: a trim panel remover, a drill with a 3/32" drill bit, a Phillips head screwdriver, and a test probe. These tools are required to access the tow plug, drill the ground wire hole, and test the installation.
The package includes one 30-amp fuse and two 20-amp fuses. The 30-amp fuse goes in fuse box position #2 labeled '(30A) Trl Main'. The two 20-amp fuses go in positions #3 labeled '(20A) Trl E-Brake' and #11 labeled '(20A) Trl Charge'. The fuse box is located on the driver side near the front of the vehicle under the hood.
The white tow plug is located in the rear cargo area inside the vehicle. To find it, open the rear tailgate and open the access panel inside the storage compartment. You will need to temporarily remove all floor coverings and cargo trays to access it.
The manual does not specify whether battery disconnection is required before installation. However, it does state that after installation is complete, you should reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the ignition key for the initial test.
Insert the T-One® Connector harness into the vehicle's factory Tow-Plug harness and lock it into place. Before doing this, ensure all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt. Be careful not to damage the locking tabs and verify that connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
If your vehicle is equipped with an accessory backup sensor, connect the white connector with a single blue wire into the mating connector. If your vehicle does not have backup sensors, the connector with the blue wire will not be used.
Yes, drilling is required. You must drill a 3/32" hole to secure the white ground wire using the eyelet and screw provided. Before drilling, verify what is behind the surface to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury. Do not drill into any exposed surfaces.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector in the rear cargo area. Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area before drilling. The manual does not specify an exact location, so choose a spot that is structurally sound and accessible. Always verify what is behind the surface before drilling.
Remove the jack storage compartment door and locate the rubber grommet on the vehicle floor. Unseat and discard the grommet. Route the 7-way harness end with terminals behind the trim panel to the grommet area, then through the grommet hole into the jack storage area. Seat the grommet inside the hole and continue routing the 7-way harness to the center of the vehicle. Route the harness along the inside of the bumper toward the center and to your chosen 7-way mounting location.
Mount the 7-way socket in an accessible location with a bracket or electrical box (not included). The manual does not specify an exact location, but it should be easily reachable and protected from damage. Secure the remainder of the harness with the provided cable ties to prevent damage, rattling, and to avoid areas that would pinch, cut, or melt the wire.
Mount the black box module on a flat surface in an out-of-the-way location to prevent damage or rattling. The exact location is not specified in the manual, but it should be secure and protected from vibration.
The 7-way connector includes the following wires: Green (Tail), Black (+12V Battery), Brown (Right/Stop), Red (Left/Stop), White (Ground), Blue (Trailer Brakes), and Yellow (Backup). Insert terminals into the provided black round connector, which will mate with the 7-way connector.
All connections must be complete for the T-One® Connector to function properly. Test and verify installation with a test light or trailer once installed. For the initial test, reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition.
Do not exceed the lower of the towing manufacturer rating (including in your vehicle owner's manual) or the specific amperage ratings stated on the product. The included fuses are 30 amps (main) and 20 amps each (e-brake and charge). Overloading circuits can cause fires.
Always wear safety glasses and use all safety precautions during installation. Before drilling, verify what is behind any surface to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury. Do not drill into exposed surfaces. Keep connector surfaces clean and free of dirt. Be careful not to damage locking tabs. Avoid pinching, cutting, or melting wires during routing. Read all warnings and instructions before beginning installation.
Remove the jack storage compartment door and locate the rubber grommet on the vehicle floor. Unseat the grommet and discard it. You will route the 7-way harness through the grommet hole, then seat a new grommet inside the hole to protect the wiring.
Yes. After completing the wiring installation, replace both access panels, floor trim panels, and the cargo door that were removed during installation.

One 30-amp fuse (position #2 'Trl Main') and two 20-amp fuses (positions #3 'Trl E-Brake' and #11 'Trl Charge') for the fuse box.
Test with a test light or trailer after all connections are complete. Reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the ignition key for the initial test.
Do not exceed the lower of the towing manufacturer rating or the specific amperage ratings on the product. Included fuses are 30A (main) and 20A each (e-brake and charge).
Verify that all connections are complete and fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Ensure connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt. Check that all three fuses are properly installed in the correct positions: 30-amp in position #2 (Trl Main), 20-amp in position #3 (Trl E-Brake), and 20-amp in position #11 (Trl Charge). Test with a test light or trailer. If the issue persists, reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the ignition key.
The manual warns to be careful not to damage the locking tabs during insertion, as they are essential for proper connection. If locking tabs are damaged, the connector may not function properly. Ensure connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place before proceeding.
