Draw-Tite has designed custom-fit trailer hitches since 1946 and is one of North America's most widely fitted hitch brands. Receiver hitches use solid all-welded construction and low-profile designs that follow modern vehicle contours, install with minimal bumper cutting or drilling, meet or exceed V5 CSA and SAE J684 standards, and carry a limited lifetime warranty.
Draw-Tite has been leading custom-fit trailer hitch design and engineering since its founding in 1946, and it remains one of the most widely fitted hitch brands in North America. The company's stated approach is straightforward: every hitch is tested rigorously so that it performs well beyond published industry standards, a philosophy it markets as Tested Tough. It sits within the Horizon Global towing group alongside Reese, Fulton, Bulldog, Tekonsha, Bargman and Wesbar.
Custom fit is the defining characteristic. Rather than adapting a universal design, Draw-Tite engineers a trailer hitch for a specific make, model and model year, so it bolts to existing frame locations with minimal bumper cutting or drilling. Low-profile designs follow the rear contours and aerodynamic styling of modern vehicles, which matters more than it once did now that rear fascias are shaped and sensor-equipped. Construction is solid all-welded steel for maximum strength, and every hitch meets or exceeds V5 CSA and SAE J684 standards and is backed by a nationwide limited lifetime warranty.
The range spans receiver sizes and classes to suit different loads, from 1-1/4 inch receivers for bike racks, cargo carriers and light trailers up through 2 inch receivers for heavier towing. Front mount hitches add a receiver at the front of the vehicle for winch mounts, snow plows, spare carriers and precise trailer positioning.
The Hidden Hitch series takes concealment further by mounting behind the vehicle's rear fascia, so the vehicle keeps its factory appearance until a removable receiver is fitted. Each is custom designed per make and model for a no-drill installation that does not compromise ground clearance, rated for up to 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight and 350 pounds tongue weight. Matching plug-and-play wiring completes the towing system.

The hitch is rated for a maximum gross trailer weight of 2000 lb (908 kg) and maximum tongue weight of 200 lb (90.8 kg). Do not exceed the lower of your vehicle manufacturer's towing rating or these limits.
Required tools include: ratchet, torque wrench, safety glasses, sockets (7mm, 10mm, 13mm, 15mm), 6" socket extension, T15 Torx bit, Phillips screwdriver, plastic trim tools, tape measure, tin snips, and tape. Installation time is approximately 60 minutes for professional installers.
Yes. The bumper beam must be removed to install the hitch. Using a 15mm deep wall socket with 6" extension, remove the 6 flange hex nuts holding the bumper beam to the end panel. The hitch is then sandwiched between the bumper beam and end panel.
Yes. The underbody panel must be trimmed using a tape measure, tape, and tin snips. Mark and trim the panel as shown in Figure 2: trim 3-3/4" on one section, 5-1/2" on another, and 3-1/2" on a third section. The panel may be trimmed in place or optionally removed entirely for trimming.
Tighten all M10 fasteners to 38 Lb.-Ft. (52 N·M) and all M8 fasteners to 20 Lb.-Ft. (27 N·M) using a torque wrench. Proper torque is essential to keep the hitch secure to the vehicle when towing.
Always wear safety glasses during installation. Do not cut, weld, or modify the receiver. Do not use a torch to cut holes. Support the exhaust before unhoking the exhaust hanger. When towing, always wear your seatbelt, slow down, never exceed posted speed limits, and load the trailer heavier in front. If excess sway occurs, take your foot off the gas and hold the steering wheel steady—do not apply brakes or speed up.
Check that all fasteners are tight and the hitch is securely mounted to the vehicle. Periodically verify that all fasteners and the ball remain properly tightened. If the hitch is removed, plug all holes in the trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes.
Hitch 24947 is designed for 2016 and current model year Chevrolet Volt. For the most up-to-date information regarding specific trim levels and application years, visit the manufacturer's website at www.cequentgroup.com.
The authorized drawbar kit is part number 3593 (sold separately). The drawbar must be used in the RISE position only.
Approximately 28 fasteners must be removed during installation: 5 screws from inside each wheel well (10 total), 1 screw vertically in upper wheel well area on each side (2 total), 8 screws from underbody panel near wheel wells, 5 screws from underbody panel to fascia, 2 screws from each taillight housing (4 total), 1 Phillips screw from each taillight housing (2 total), 2 bolts from exhaust hanger, and 6 flange hex nuts from bumper beam.
Yes. Open the trunk and remove 2 Torx T15 screws and 1 Phillips screw from each taillight housing on both sides. Gently pull the taillights rearward and disconnect the wiring from the taillights. You must reconnect the wiring after installation.
If your vehicle is equipped with fascia wiring, you must disconnect it before removing the fascia. Reconnect all wiring to the fascia after reinstalling it.
Support the exhaust before unhoking the exhaust hanger from the hooks on the end panel. This prevents the exhaust system from dropping or becoming damaged during installation.
First, loosely reinstall the 6 existing M10 hex flange nuts (3 per side) onto the studs. Then reattach the exhaust hanger over the hooks on the end panel and install the 2 M8 bolts. Finally, tighten all M10 fasteners to 38 Lb.-Ft. (52 N·M) and all M8 fasteners to 20 Lb.-Ft. (27 N·M) using a torque wrench.
Raise the hitch and bumper beam into position, aligning the hitch holes with the studs in the end panel. Sandwich the hitch between the bumper beam and the end panel. The hitch is held in place by the 6 M10 flange hex nuts (3 per side) that attach to the studs.
Using a tape measure, tape, and tin snips, mark and trim the underbody panel as follows: trim 3-3/4" on one section, 5-1/2" on another section, and 3-1/2" on a third section, as shown in Figure 2. The panel may be trimmed in place or optionally removed entirely for trimming.
All M10 fasteners must be tightened to 38 Lb.-Ft. (52 N·M) using a torque wrench. There are 6 M10 fasteners total (3 per side) that hold the hitch to the end panel studs.
All M8 fasteners must be tightened to 20 Lb.-Ft. (27 N·M) using a torque wrench. There are 2 M8 fasteners that secure the exhaust hanger.
You will need sockets in the following sizes: 7mm, 10mm, 13mm, and 15mm. A 15mm deep wall socket with a 6" extension is specifically required to remove the bumper beam fasteners.
A T15 Torx bit is required. It is used to remove 5 screws from inside each wheel well, 8 screws from the underbody panel near the wheel wells, and 2 screws from each taillight housing.
Yes. A Phillips head screwdriver is required to remove 1 screw from each taillight housing (2 total) during the removal process.
Tin snips are required to trim the underbody panel. Do not use a torch to cut access or attachment holes, as this is explicitly prohibited.
The manual states that the average installation time for professional installers is 60 minutes. If you do not feel comfortable performing the installation on your own or are in need of assistance, contact a professional installer.
If excess sway occurs, take your foot off the gas pedal and hold the steering wheel as steady as possible. Do not apply your brakes and do not speed up. These actions will help stabilize the trailer.
Hitch 24947 is a weight-carrying hitch only. Weight distributing capability is not available (marked as X in the specifications). The maximum gross trailer weight is 2000 lb (908 kg) and maximum tongue weight is 200 lb (90.8 kg).
Check the hitch frequently, making sure all fasteners and the ball are properly tightened. The manual does not specify an exact interval, but periodic inspection is required to maintain safe towing.
If the hitch is removed, plug all holes in the trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes. This protects the vehicle's interior and prevents corrosion.
A hitch or ball which has been damaged should be removed and replaced. Do not continue to use a damaged hitch, as it may fail during towing and create a safety hazard.
