The Air Lift Air Lift 1000 Air Spring Kit 60856 (Part #BBCG60856) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Kit 60856 is designed for GM midsize SUVs. However, the manual does not specify which model years, generations, or specific models are compatible. Contact Air Lift customer service at (800) 248-0892 or email service@airliftcompany.com to confirm fitment for your specific vehicle before purchasing.
Each Air Lift 1000 air spring cylinder is rated to provide up to 1,000 pounds (454 kg) of load-leveling support and has a maximum inflation pressure rating of 35 PSI (2.4 BAR). However, the actual air pressure needed depends on your load and your vehicle's gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR). Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's GVWR or payload rating.
Required tools are: hoist or floor jack, 2 safety stands, 5/16" drill bit, drill, hose cutter or razor blade (not scissors or wire cutters), needle nose and regular pliers, safety glasses, air compressor or compressed air source, spray bottle with dish soap/water solution, and a tire spoon or blunt instrument. A video-enhanced installation guide is available at airliftcompany.com/workshop/category/install-videos.
The kit includes: 2 air springs (part 46137), 2 lower protectors (09112), 15" air line (20937), 6 zip ties (10466), 2 valve caps (21230), 4 5/16" hex nuts (21233), 2 rubber washers (21234), 2 star washers (18411), 2 M8 flat washers (18501), 1 tee fitting (21236), 2 Schrader valves (21455), and 6 air line clamps (106385). If any parts are missing or damaged, call Air Lift customer service at (800) 248-0892.
The manual does not mention disconnecting the battery. However, you should read the complete installation guide and the user guide included with the kit before beginning installation.
Yes. You must drill a 5/16" (8 mm) hole for the Schrader valve. The manual states "Drill a 5/16" (8mm) hole, if necessary" for the valve location. The hole is drilled in the vehicle body or bumper where you choose to mount the Schrader valve. Use a 5/16" drill bit and make a clean hole.
1. Jack up the rear of the vehicle or raise it on a hoist. Support the frame with 2 safety stands. 2. Lower the suspension or raise the body until the coil springs are completely extended (wheels hanging). Observe tension on brake lines and do not strain or overextend them.
1. Remove the plastic cap from the barbed stem on the air spring. Exhaust the air by rolling the spring toward the barbed stem. Replace the cap to hold its flat shape. 2. Fold the air spring into a "hot dog bun shape." 3. Insert the flattened end into the top opening of the coil spring with the stem at the bottom. Push the spring down by hand or with a blunt instrument such as a tire spoon. 4. When fully inserted, remove the cap and allow the air spring to assume its "as molded" shape. 5. Push the air spring to the top of the coil spring.
The lower protector (part 09112) is installed at the bottom of the air spring, between the lower spring seat and the air spring. After pushing the air spring to the top of the coil spring, insert the lower protector at the bottom. The air line is then routed through the control arm and lower protector and attached to the air spring using air line clamps.
Route the air line from each air spring through the control arm and lower protector, then to the center lower control arm pivot and up to the top of the crossmember. For a single-path fill (recommended for even weight distribution), add a tee fitting above the crossmember or route separate air lines to the side away from the exhaust muffler or any heat source. Secure all air lines with the supplied zip ties. Maintain at least 6" (152 mm) clearance from the exhaust system to prevent the air line from melting.
Single-path installation is recommended for vehicles with even weight distribution. Both air springs connect to a single tee fitting, which then connects to one Schrader valve. Dual-path installation is used when weight varies from side to side and unequal pressures are needed to level the load. In dual-path, the tee fitting is eliminated and separate air lines are routed from each air spring directly to the Schrader valve, allowing independent pressure adjustment for each side.
Make clean, square cuts with a razor blade or hose cutter. Do not use scissors or wire cutters. For each connection: 1. Slide the air line clamp onto the air line. 2. Push the air line and clamp over the barbed stem so the air line covers all the barbs. 3. Compress the ears on the air line clamp with pliers and slide it forward to fully cover the barbs. Leave sufficient air line slack to prevent strain on the fitting during axle motions.
Select a location for the Schrader valve that will be protected and accessible with an air hose. The valve is typically mounted on the vehicle body or bumper. Drill a 5/16" (8 mm) hole at the chosen location. Install the air line on the Schrader valve first. The rubber washer serves as an outside weather seal. Secure the valve with the hex nut, ensuring the flat washer, star washer, and rubber washer are in place as shown in the installation diagram.
The maximum inflation pressure is 35 PSI (2.4 BAR). Never exceed this pressure. The minimum recommended pressure is 5 PSI (0.34 BAR). The actual pressure needed depends on your load and your vehicle's gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR). Do not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's GVWR or payload rating.
Maintain at least 6" (152 mm) clearance from the exhaust system to the air line to prevent the air line from melting. This applies to both the air springs and the air lines. If a heat shield was included in the kit, install it. If there is no heat shield but one is required, call Air Lift customer service at (800) 248-0892.
After installation, perform the following checks: 1. Clearance test — Inflate to 30 PSI (2 BAR) and verify at least 1/2" (13 mm) clearance from the tire, brakes, frame, shock absorbers, and brake cables. 2. Leak test — Inflate to 30 PSI and check all connections for leaks before road testing. 3. Heat test — Verify at least 6" (152 mm) clearance from heat sources. 4. Fastener test — After 500 miles (800 km), recheck all bolts for proper torque. 5. Road test — Drive 10 miles (16 km) and recheck for clearance, loose fasteners, and leaks.
Check air pressure weekly. Always maintain normal ride height. Never inflate beyond 35 PSI (2.4 BAR). If the system develops an air leak, use a soapy water solution to check all air line connections and the inflation valve core before deflating and removing the air spring.
After 500 miles (800 km) of driving, recheck all bolts for proper torque. The manual does not specify the torque values for individual fasteners.
Use a spray bottle with a dish soap and water solution. Spray the solution on all air line connections and the inflation valve core. Bubbles will form at any leak location. All leaks must be eliminated before road testing the vehicle. If leaks are found, deflate and remove the air spring to repair the connection.
Kit 60856 is designed for GM midsize SUVs. Contact Air Lift at (800) 248-0892 to confirm fitment for your specific model year and generation before purchasing.
You need a hoist or floor jack, 2 safety stands, 5/16" drill bit, drill, hose cutter or razor blade, pliers, safety glasses, air compressor, and a spray bottle with soapy water. A tire spoon or blunt instrument is also required.
Yes. You must drill one 5/16" (8 mm) hole for the Schrader valve in the vehicle body or bumper.
Maximum is 35 PSI (2.4 BAR). Minimum recommended is 5 PSI (0.34 BAR). Never exceed the maximum or your vehicle's GVWR.
Maintain at least 6" (152 mm) clearance from the exhaust system to prevent the air line from melting.
Inflate to 30 PSI and verify 1/2" (13 mm) clearance from tires, brakes, frame, and shocks. Check for leaks with soapy water. Verify 6" clearance from heat sources. After 500 miles, recheck fastener torque. Road test for 10 miles and recheck clearance and leaks.
Check weekly. Always maintain normal ride height and never exceed 35 PSI (2.4 BAR).
The air line is too close to the exhaust system. Maintain at least 6" (152 mm) clearance from the exhaust system to the air line. Reroute the air line away from the exhaust muffler and any other heat source. If a heat shield was included in the kit, install it. If one is required but not included, contact Air Lift customer service at (800) 248-0892.
Use a spray bottle with a dish soap and water solution. Spray all air line connections and the inflation valve core. Bubbles will indicate the leak location. Common leak points are air line connections at the air spring, tee fitting, and Schrader valve. Check that the air line clamps are fully compressed and covering all barbs on the connection. If the leak persists after tightening connections, deflate and remove the air spring and inspect the connection point.
The air spring does not have sufficient clearance. Deflate the air springs and check the position of the air spring in the coil. Ensure the air spring is fully seated at the top of the coil spring and that the lower protector is properly positioned at the bottom. Reinflate to 30 PSI (2 BAR) and verify at least 1/2" (13 mm) clearance from the tire, brakes, frame, shock absorbers, and brake cables. If clearance cannot be achieved, contact Air Lift customer service at (800) 248-0892.
