Kit 60857 is designed for GM Midsize SUVs: Chevrolet Trailblazer, Cadillac Encore GX, Chevrolet Blazer, GMC Acadia, and Cadillac XT5. Confirm your exact vehicle model and year match one of these before purchasing. The installation procedure differs between Trailblazer/Encore GX models and Blazer/Acadia/XT5 models due to differences in lower control arm access holes.
Each air spring is rated to provide up to 1,000 pounds (454 kg) of load-leveling support. The kit includes two air springs. Each cylinder is rated at a maximum of 35 PSI (2.4 BAR). The actual air pressure needed depends on your load and your vehicle's gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR). Never exceed your vehicle's GVWR or payload rating as specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
Required tools: pliers (needle nose and regular), 5/16" and 9/16" drill bits, drill, hose cutter or razor blade, hoist or floor jack, 2 safety stands, safety glasses, air compressor or compressed air source, spray bottle with dish soap/water solution, tire spoon or blunt instrument, hammer, center punch, and file or sandpaper. The kit includes: 2 air springs (part 46136), 15" air line (part 20937), 6 zip ties (part 10638), 2 valve caps (part 21230), 4 5/16" hex nuts (part 21233), 2 rubber washers (part 21234), 2 star washers (part 18411), 2 M8 flat washers (part 18501), 1 tee fitting (part 21236), 2 Schrader valves (part 21455), and 6 air line clamps (part 10638). 1. Jack up the rear of the vehicle or raise it on a hoist. 2. Support the frame with 2 safety stands. 3. Lower the axle or raise the body until the coil springs are completely extended (wheels hanging). Observe tension on brake lines and do not strain or overextend them during this process.
Trailblazer and Encore GX models do not have an access hole for the air line through the lower control arm, so you must drill a 9/16" hole through the recessed pocket of the lower control arm. Blazer, Acadia, and XT5 models have existing access holes in the lower control arm (not all the way through), so drilling is not required. The air line routing also differs: Trailblazer/Encore GX routes the air line through the drilled hole and up to the crossmember, while Blazer/Acadia/XT5 routes it out the front of the large rectangle hole in the lower control arm.
Yes. Trailblazer and Encore GX models do not have an access hole for the air line, so you must drill a 9/16" hole through the lower control arm in the recessed pocket. Some models may have an existing small hole that can be enlarged to 9/16" without center punching. After drilling, smooth out the burrs and rough edges with a file or sandpaper. If a 9/16" drill bit is unavailable, drill with a 1/2" bit and enlarge using a file or die grinder. Blazer, Acadia, and XT5 models do not require drilling.
1. Remove the plastic cap from the barbed stem on the air spring. 2. Exhaust the air by rolling the spring toward the barbed stem. 3. Replace the cap to hold its flat shape. 4. Fold the air spring into a "hot dog bun shape." 5. Insert the flattened end into the top opening of the coil spring with the stem at the bottom. 6. Push the air spring down into the cylinder by hand or with a blunt instrument such as a spoon-type tire iron. 7. When completely in the coil, remove the cap and allow the air spring to assume its "as molded" shape.
1. Push the air spring to the bottom of the coil spring (Trailblazer/Encore GX) or to the top (Blazer/Acadia/XT5). 2. Using pliers, slide an air line clamp (part 10638) onto the air line. 3. Push the air line completely over the barbed stem of the air spring. 4. Slide the clamp over the barbed stem area. 5. Compress the ears on the clamp with pliers and slide it forward to fully cover the barbs. The air line must cover all the barbs to prevent leaks.
For Trailblazer/Encore GX: Route the air line through the drilled hole in the lower control arm and up to the crossmember on the underside of the unibody. For Blazer/Acadia/XT5: Route the air line down through the hole in the lower control arm toward the center of the vehicle, then out the front of the large rectangle hole. In both cases, leave sufficient slack for suspension articulation, keep the air line away from heat sources, and secure it with zip ties (part 10638). Maintain at least 6" (152 mm) clearance from the exhaust system to prevent the air line from melting.
Single-path installation is recommended for vehicles with even weight distribution. It uses one tee fitting (part 21236) to connect both air springs to a single Schrader valve. Dual-path installation is used when weight varies from side to side and unequal pressures are needed to level the load. For dual-path, eliminate the tee fitting and route separate air lines from each air spring to individual Schrader valves, allowing independent pressure adjustment for each side.
Make clean, square cuts using a razor blade or hose cutter. Do not use scissors or wire cutters, as they will crush or fray the hose. Determine the adequate length of air line needed to reach from the air springs to the tee fitting (for single-path) or to the Schrader valves (for dual-path), leaving sufficient slack to prevent strain during axle motions.
1. Select a location for the Schrader valve (part 21455) that will be protected and accessible with an air hose. 2. Drill a 5/16" (8 mm) hole if necessary. 3. Determine and cut adequate length of air line to reach from the tee to the Schrader valve (single-path) or from the air springs to the valve (dual-path). 4. Install the air line on the Schrader valve first. 5. Mount the valve as shown in the manual with the rubber washer (part 21234) serving as an outside weather seal. The assembly includes a hex nut, flat washer, star washer, and valve cap (part 21230).
1. Slide the air line clamp (part 10638) onto the air line. 2. Push the air line and clamp over the barbed stem of the Schrader valve so the air line covers all the barbs. 3. Compress the ears on the clamp with pliers and slide it forward to fully cover the barbs. Install the air line on the Schrader valve before mounting the valve to the vehicle.
The maximum air pressure is 35 PSI (2.4 BAR). Never inflate beyond this pressure. Although the air springs are rated at 35 PSI maximum, the actual air pressure needed depends on your load and your vehicle's gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR). Always maintain normal ride height and do not exceed your vehicle's GVWR or payload rating as specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
The minimum recommended pressure is 5 PSI (0.34 BAR). Check air pressure weekly to maintain proper system function and vehicle safety.
1. Clearance test: Inflate to 30 PSI and verify at least 1/2" (13 mm) clearance from the air springs to tires, brakes, frame, shock absorbers, and brake cables. 2. Leak test: Inflate to 30 PSI and check all connections for leaks before road testing. 3. Heat test: Ensure at least 6" (152 mm) clearance from heat sources for air springs and air lines. 4. Fastener test: After 500 miles (800 km), recheck all bolts for proper torque. 5. Road test: Drive 10 miles (16 km) and recheck for clearance, loose fasteners, and air leaks.
Check air pressure weekly. Regular pressure checks help maintain proper system function, vehicle safety, and load-leveling performance.
Use a spray bottle with a dish soap and water solution to check all air line connections and the inflation valve core. If the system develops an air leak, apply the soapy water solution to identify the leak location before deflating and removing the air spring. All leaks must be eliminated before road testing the vehicle.
After 500 miles (800 km) of driving, recheck all bolts for proper torque. This is part of the post-installation inspection checklist to ensure the system remains secure.

Trailblazer and Encore GX require drilling a 9/16" hole in the lower control arm for air line access. Blazer, Acadia, and XT5 have existing access holes and do not require drilling. All installations require drilling a 5/16" hole for the Schrader valve.
You need a drill (5/16" and 9/16" bits), pliers, hose cutter or razor blade, hoist or floor jack, 2 safety stands, safety glasses, air compressor, spray bottle with soapy water, tire spoon, hammer, center punch, and file or sandpaper.

Use a spray bottle with a dish soap and water solution to confirm the leak location at the air line connection. Ensure the air line clamp is properly positioned to fully cover all barbs on the stem. The air line must completely cover all barbs and the clamp ears must be fully compressed with pliers and slid forward to create a secure seal. If the leak persists after reseating the clamp, the air line or stem may be damaged and the air spring should be removed and replaced.
The air line is too close to the exhaust system. Maintain at least 6" (152 mm) clearance between the air line and exhaust system. Reroute the air line away from the heat source. If a heat shield was included in the kit, install it. If a heat shield is required but not included, contact Air Lift customer service at (800) 248-0892.
Deflate the air springs and verify that the air spring is properly seated at the bottom of the coil spring. Reinflate to 30 PSI and check clearance. There must be at least 1/2" (13 mm) clearance from the air spring to the tire, brakes, frame, shock absorbers, and brake cables. If clearance is insufficient, the air spring may not be fully inserted into the coil spring or the coil spring may not be fully extended during installation. Verify the suspension was fully extended (wheels hanging) during installation.
Use a spray bottle with a dish soap and water solution to check all air line connections and the inflation valve core for leaks. Apply the soapy water to each connection point and look for bubbles indicating escaping air. Check the Schrader valve connection, all air line clamp connections, and the valve core. If a leak is found, reseat the air line clamp by compressing the ears with pliers and sliding it forward to fully cover the barbs. If the leak is at the valve core, the core may need replacement. All leaks must be eliminated before road testing.
