Air Lift adjustable air helper springs level your load, and give your truck, van, or SUV a safer, more comfortable ride. Air springs are easy to install inside the existing coil spring with common mechanic's tools. Just add air when towing or hauling a heavy load, and reduce air pressure when unloaded, they are fully adjustable for a great ride. Air Lift air springs eliminate sag, sway, and bottoming out. They are made with rugged, durable components for long, reliable service. Air Lift 1000 kits fit many popular customer vehicles with coil springs. They're designed to: add support to rear springs on many popular SUVs, replace OEM front air springs on P-30 motor homes, provide front end support for snowplows, winches, etc., improve muscle car traction for drag racing, and improve ride and handling for full-size vans and trucks with front coil springs. Air adjustable with quick connecting, easy-to-use air fittings, Air Lift 1000 air helper springs have a typical max pressure of 35 PSI on cars and SUVs, and 90 PSI on motorhomes. They also have up to 1000 pounds of leveling capacity, right up to the manufacturer's recommended Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. The Air Lift AIR LIFT 1000 60814 (Part #BBCG60814) fits the following vehicles: 2008-2016 Chrysler Town & Country; 2008-2016 Dodge Grand Caravan; 2009-2014 Volkswagen Routan. Always verify your specific year, make, and model before ordering.
The Air Lift AIR LIFT 1000 60814 (Part #BBCG60814) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, kit 60814 is designed for Dodge Caravan, Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Town & Country, and Volkswagen Routan. However, installation of this kit does not alter your vehicle's Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or payload. You must not exceed the maximum load listed in your vehicle's owner's manual or on the Safety Compliance Certification Label.
The kit includes: 2 air springs (part 46141), 1 hose 15' (part 20315), 4 tie straps (part 10466), 2 valve caps (part 21230), 4 5/16" hex nuts (part 21233), 2 rubber washers (part 21234), 2 star washers (part 18411), 2 5/16" flat washers (part 18405), 4 tees (part 21236), 4 valves (part 21455), and 1 heat shield kit (part 33107).
Required tools include: 2 hoists or floor jacks, 1 set of safety stands, safety glasses, metric and standard sockets/ratchet and wrenches, drill with drill bits, grinder or Dremel tool, pliers, air compressor or compressed air source, and a spray bottle with dish soap/water solution (1/5 dish soap to 4/5 water).
Yes. The coil springs must be removed to prepare the vehicle for the air springs. After removing the coil springs, you will need to remove the lower plastic jounce bumper strike plate and the jounce bumper from the upper jounce bumper bracket. The air springs are then inserted into the coil springs with the stem pointing up, and the springs are reinstalled in the suspension.
Yes. Before removing the coil springs, you must unbolt the brake line bracket and disconnect the brake line from the clip on the side of the frame. You must also disconnect the lower shocks from the suspension crossmember. These are reattached during the final steps of installation.
Yes, drilling is required in three locations. You must enlarge the center hole in the upper jounce bumper bracket with a 1/2" drill bit. You must also enlarge the upper spring seat hole with a 1/2" drill bit. Additionally, you must drill a 1/2" hole through the upper spring seat frame reinforcement, measured 3.5" up from the bottom edge at the center of the spring (error toward the rear if needed). Finally, you must drill a 5/16" hole for the inflation valve. A supplied grommet must be installed in the 1/2" hole through the reinforcement.
Use a 1/2" drill bit to enlarge the existing center hole in the upper jounce bumper bracket. The hole must be open and not restrictive so the hose can flow freely in and out. You may need to clean loose plastic out with a knife or file.
Measure up from the bottom edge of the reinforcement 3.5" at the center of the spring. Error toward the rear of the center if needed. Drill a 1/2" hole through the reinforcement only. Install the supplied grommet into this hole.
Drill a 5/16" hole for the inflation valve. The valve can be mounted in the gas cap well, trunk, rear bumper, fender flange, or behind the license plate, ensuring it is protected and accessible with an air hose. The rubber washer serves as an outside weather seal.
Route the air line along the cross member and either the lower control arm or the upper spring seat to the air spring. Insert the air line through the spring seat and spacers. Push the air line onto the stem, covering all the barbs. With pliers, slide the air line clamp upward until it fully covers the barbed section. Leave sufficient air line slack to prevent any strain on the fitting during axle motions.
A tee air line installation is recommended for most applications. Use a single tee that connects to both left and right air springs with one inflation valve. Dual air line routing is recommended only if weight in the vehicle varies from one side to the other and unequal pressures are needed to level the load or compensate for axle torque transfer in racing applications. Dual routing uses separate air lines and separate inflation valves for each side.
Slide an air line clamp onto the air line. Push the air line over one side of the tee until all the barbs are covered. With a pair of pliers, slide the air line clamp forward until it fully covers the barbed section. Repeat the entire procedure for the other leg of the tee.
Push the air line onto the stem, covering all the barbs. With pliers, slide the air line clamp upward until it fully covers the barbed section. Ensure the clamp fully covers the barbed section to prevent leaks.
Maintain at least 8" from the exhaust system to the air line to prevent the air line from melting.
Check the tail pipe clearance and ensure that it is at least 2-3 inches from the air spring. If necessary, loosen the clamps and rotate or move the air line to obtain additional clearance.
Attach the air line with plastic straps or wire to route it along the frame to the desired inflation valve location. Leave slack at the top for the hose to move in and out freely during normal driving and in case the vehicle is serviced on a frame contact hoist. Loosely attach the hose to the brake line using a wire tie.
Inflate the air springs to 35 PSI after completing the installation. Test for air leaks by applying a liquid solution of 1/5 dish soap to 4/5 water to all valve cores, fittings and connections. Recheck air pressure after 24 hours. A 2-4 PSI loss after initial installation is normal. If pressure has dropped more than 5 PSI, retest for leaks.
The minimum air pressure is 5 PSI and the maximum air pressure is 35 PSI. Always maintain at least the recommended minimum air pressure to prevent the air spring from being pinched. Never inflate beyond the maximum air pressure. Failure to maintain correct minimum pressure (or pressure proportional to load), bottoming out, over-extension or rubbing against another component will void the warranty.
No. The installation of the Air Lift 1000 does not alter the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or payload of the vehicle. You must not exceed the maximum load listed in your vehicle's owner's manual or on the Safety Compliance Certification Label. Exceeding the GVWR is dangerous and voids the Air Lift warranty.
Check the air pressure weekly. Always maintain at least the recommended minimum air pressure (5 PSI) to prevent the air spring from being pinched. Never inflate beyond the maximum air pressure (35 PSI).
Use a soapy water solution of 1/5 liquid dish soap and 4/5 water to check all air line connections and the inflation valve core. Apply the solution to all valve cores, fittings and connections. If you develop an air leak, check all connections before deflating and removing the air spring.
Always add air to springs in small quantities, checking the pressure frequently. Sleeves require less air volume than a tire and inflate quickly.
Inflate your air springs to 35 PSI before adding the payload. This will allow the air cylinder to properly mesh with the coil spring. After the vehicle is loaded, adjust your air pressure down to level the vehicle and for ride comfort.
Yes. When carrying a payload it will be helpful to increase the tire inflation pressure in proportion to any overload condition. Air Lift recommends a 2 PSI increase above normal for each 100 lbs additional load on the axle. However, do not exceed the vehicle manufacturer's maximum tire inflation pressure.
This indicates the vehicle is not level. Raise the air pressure to correct this problem and level the vehicle.
A rough or harsh ride may be due to either too much pressure or not enough pressure. Try different pressures to determine the best ride comfort.
Stability issues including roll control, bounce, dive during braking and sponginess usually require an increase in pressure. Stability translates into safety and should be the priority, meaning the driver may need to sacrifice a perfectly level and comfortable ride.
If the front of the vehicle dives while braking, increase the pressure in the front air bags, if equipped.
If it is ever suspected that the air bags have bottomed out, increase the pressure.
It may be necessary to maintain different pressures on each side of the vehicle. Loads such as water, fuel, and appliances will cause the vehicle to be heavier on one side. As much as a 50 PSI difference is not uncommon between sides.
A 2-4 PSI loss after initial installation is normal. If pressure has dropped more than 5 PSI after 24 hours, retest for leaks using a soapy water solution of 1/5 liquid dish soap and 4/5 water applied to all valve cores, fittings and connections.
No. Adding air springs will not change the weight ratings (GAWR, GCWR and/or GVWR) of a vehicle. Exceeding the GVWR is dangerous and voids the Air Lift warranty.
Yes. The minimum air pressure (5 PSI) should be maintained at all times. The minimum air pressure keeps the air spring in shape, ensuring that it will move throughout its travel without rubbing or wearing on itself.
No. Air pressure can be adjusted with any type of compressor as long as it can produce sufficient pressure to service the springs. Even a bicycle tire pump can be used, but it's a lot of work.
If the air springs are properly installed and maintained they can last indefinitely.
No. The vehicle can be lifted on a hoist for short-term service work such as tire rotation or oil changes. However, if the vehicle will be on the hoist for a prolonged period of time, support the axle with jack stands in order to take the tension off of the air springs.
Yes, kit 60814 is designed for Dodge Caravan, Grand Caravan, Chrysler Town & Country, and Volkswagen Routan. Installation does not alter your vehicle's GVWR or payload limits.
No. The Air Lift 1000 does not increase GVWR or payload. You must not exceed the limits in your vehicle's owner's manual or Safety Compliance Certification Label.
Check weekly. Maintain minimum 5 PSI to prevent pinching. Never exceed 35 PSI. A 2-4 PSI loss in 24 hours after installation is normal.
The vehicle is not level if headlights are shining into the trees or the vehicle is leaning to one side. Raise the air pressure to correct this problem and level the vehicle. If one side is heavier due to cargo (water, fuel, appliances), you may need to maintain different pressures on each side—as much as a 50 PSI difference is not uncommon.
A rough or harsh ride may be caused by either too much or too little pressure. Try different pressures to determine the best ride comfort for your vehicle.
These stability issues usually require an increase in pressure. Stability translates into safety and should be the priority. You may need to sacrifice a perfectly level and comfortable ride to achieve proper stability.
If the front of the vehicle dives while braking, increase the pressure in the front air bags, if equipped.
A 2-4 PSI loss after initial installation is normal. If pressure has dropped more than 5 PSI, there is likely an air leak. Use a soapy water solution of 1/5 liquid dish soap and 4/5 water to check all valve cores, fittings and connections for leaks.
