Just add air when towing or hauling a heavy load, and reduce air pressure when unloaded, they are fully adjustable for a great ride. Air Lift air springs eliminate sag, sway, and bottoming out. They are made with rugged, durable components for long, reliable service. Air Lift 1000 kits fit many popular customer vehicles with coil springs. They're designed to: add support to rear springs on many popular SUVs, replace OEM front air springs on P-30 motor homes, provide front end support for snowplows, winches, etc., improve muscle car traction for drag racing, and improve ride and handling for full-size vans and trucks with front coil springs. Yes. You must drill a 5/16" hole in the lower bumper support to mount the inflation valve. Additionally, you must grind or file out the slot in the lower spring seat on both sides to increase hose clearance. The slot should be opened so the diameter at the top of the lower spring seat is more round than oval, with no sharp edges remaining.
1. Remove the plastic shield from the rear coil springs on both sides. 2. Grind or file out the slot in the lower spring seat to increase hose clearance. 3. Remove the plastic cap from the barbed stem on the air spring and exhaust the air by rolling it up toward the stem. 4. Replace the cap and fold the air spring into a 'hot dog bun shape.' 5. Insert the flattened air spring into the coil spring through the lowest opening with the stem at the bottom. 6. Push the air spring up within the coil by hand or with a blunt instrument such as a spoon-type iron. 7. When completely within the coil, remove the cap and allow the air spring to assume its 'as molded' shape. 8. Push the cylinder up to the top of the spring so the stem at the bottom can be accessed for attaching the hose.
Route the air line as follows: (1) From the right side air spring, route the hose up through the modified hole in the lower spring seat and through the protector, then along the front side of the lower control arm secured with two tie straps. (2) Route the hose through the suspension's center mount to the other lower control arm, where the union tee is installed on the back side. (3) From the left side air spring, route the hose to the union tee, then up to the left frame section and behind the hard rear brake line on the inside of the frame. (4) Route the hose along the frame to the back of the vehicle, securing with tie straps. (5) Install the inflation valve in the hole in the lower bumper support. Leave sufficient slack throughout to prevent strain on fittings during axle motion. Keep the air line at least 8 inches from the exhaust system to prevent melting.
The heat shield protects the air springs and air line from heat damage because the muffler is close to the coil spring. Install the heat shield by positioning it against the frame halfway between the muffler and the coil spring, ensuring the slot on the heat shield is around the muffler mounting bracket. Mount it to the frame using the two self-tapping screws (part 17132) included in the kit.
Use this procedure for all air line connections: (1) Slide an air line clamp onto the air line. (2) Spray the barbed fitting with a soapy water solution to aid insertion. (3) Push the air line over the barbed stem until it covers all the barbs. (4) Compress the ears on the air line clamp with pliers and slide it forward to fully cover the barbed section. Do not cut the air line completely when removing it from a fitting, as this will nick the barb and render the fitting useless.
1. Inflate the air spring to 30 PSI. 2. Spray all connections and the inflation valves with a solution of 1/5 liquid dish soap and 4/5 water. 3. Look for bubbles in the soapy water to spot leaks. 4. After the test, deflate the springs to the minimum pressure required to restore normal ride height (do not deflate below 5 PSI). 5. Check the air pressure again after 24 hours. A 2-4 PSI loss after initial installation is normal. Retest for leaks if the loss is more than 5 PSI.
If there is a problem with the inflation valve: (1) Check the valve core by tightening it with a valve core tool. (2) Check the air line by removing it from the barbed fitting. Cut the air line off a few inches in front of the fitting and use pliers or vice grips to pull/twist the air line off the fitting. Do not cut off the air line completely as this will nick the barb and render the fitting useless. If these steps do not resolve the problem, call Air Lift customer service at (800) 248-0892.
Complete the following checks before road testing: (1) Leak test — Inflate air springs to 30 PSI and check all connections for leaks with soapy water solution. All leaks must be eliminated before road testing. (2) Heat test — Ensure at least 6 inches clearance from air springs and air lines to any heat sources. If a heat shield was included, install it. (3) Fastener test — Recheck all bolts for proper torque and re-torque after 100 miles. (4) Road test — Drive the vehicle 10 miles and recheck for clearance, loose fasteners and air leaks.
