The air springs are manufactured with reinforced, commercial-grade single or double convolute bellows with layers of rubber and cords that control growth. Air pressure is adjustable from 5–100 PSI (.34–7 BAR).

Kit 57233 is the standard LoadLifter 5000 with zinc-plated steel roll plates (part 11967) and black nylon air lines. Kit 88233 is the LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate with black powder-coated roll plates (part 11951) and black nylon air lines. Both kits use different air spring part numbers: 58494 for kit 57233 and 58439 for kit 88233.
Required tools include: metric and standard open-end box wrenches (set), ratchet with metric and standard sockets (set), 5/16" drill bit and drill, torque wrench, hose cutter or sharp knife, hoist or floor jack, 2 safety stands, safety glasses, air compressor or compressed air source, and spray bottle with dish soap/water solution.
Raise the vehicle using a hoist or floor jack and support it with safety stands so the axle can be safely lowered away from the frame. This positioning is necessary to place the air spring assembly between the axle and frame. Remove the jounce bumper assembly from the frame using a large spanner wrench (or chisel and hammer if a spanner wrench is unavailable). Remove the rear spring clips that hold the emergency brake cables onto the spring at the rear of the axle.
1. Set a roll plate (D) on top of the air spring (C) with the radiused edge toward the air spring, seated inside the roll plate. Install the 90-degree swivel fitting (H) into the top of the air spring, finger-tight plus 1½ turns. 2. Flip the assembly over and set a roll plate (D) on the bottom. Install the lower bracket with two 3/8"-24 x 7/8" hex cap screws (E), 3/8" lock washers (F), and 3/8" flat washers (G). Torque to no more than 20 lb.-ft. (27 Nm).
The upper bracket (A) should be torqued to 36 lb.-ft. (50 Nm) using the M10-1.25 x 30 hex cap screw (J), M10 lock washer (L), and 3/8" flat washer (G) at the mounting location where the jounce bumper was removed.
The 3/8"-24 x 7/8" hex cap screws (E) connecting the lower bracket to the air spring assembly should be torqued to no more than 20 lb.-ft. (27 Nm).
The U-bolt (I) fasteners connecting the lower bracket to the leaf springs should be torqued to 16 lb.-ft. (22 Nm). These fasteners use 3/8" flat washers (G) and 3/8" nylon lock nuts (K).
The upper bracket fasteners should be tightened to finger-tight only when first threading through the roll plate and into the upper spring mount. They are torqued to their final specification (no more than 20 lb.-ft./27 Nm) only after the assembly is aligned perpendicular to the lower bracket.
After setting the assembly onto the leaf springs with the fitting facing inboard, raise the axle so the top of the air spring assembly is just below the upper bracket. Thread the upper hardware through the roll plate and into the upper spring mount, then tighten to finger-tight only. Push the assembly back or forward to align the air spring perpendicular to the upper mounting. Finally, push the top of the air spring assembly in and out to align it perpendicular to the lower bracket before final torquing.
Yes, drilling is required. You must drill a 5/16" (8 mm) hole for each Schrader valve. The manual shows three recommended locations: inside the fuel tank filler door, inside rear wheel wells, or in the license plate or rear bumper area.
Insert the air line into the thermal sleeve, leaving 2 inches of air line past the sleeve initially. Once the air line is routed and the valve is installed, trim the air line to length, leave a little slack, and insert the air line into the fitting at the top of the air spring assembly on the driver's (left) side. Push the thermal sleeve up to the fitting, making sure to completely cover the air line.
Attach the metal heat shield to the exhaust where it is closest to the passenger's (right) side air spring. Maintain 1/2" (13 mm) of dead air space between the shield and the exhaust.
Route the nylon air line along the top of the frame, forward of the axle, then down to the fitting. Cut the air line in half using a razor blade or hose cutter, making clean, square cuts (do not use scissors or wire cutters). Secure the air line to fixed points along the chassis using zip ties (N), ensuring the minimum bend radius is 1" (25 mm). Do not pinch or kink the air line. Leave at least 2" (50 mm) of slack in the air line to allow for movement.
