The standard LoadLifter 5000 kit includes zinc-plated steel roll plates and black nylon air lines. The LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate kit includes black powder-coated roll plates and black nylon air lines. Both kits use the same air spring technology and provide the same load-leveling capacity.
Required tools include: standard and metric open-end or boxed wrenches (set), standard and metric regular and deep-well sockets (set), ratchet, torque wrench, 7/32" hex-key wrench (socket preferable), hose cutter or sharp knife, hoist or floor jack, 2 safety stands, safety glasses, air compressor or compressed air source, and spray bottle with dish soap/water solution.
Yes. The manual states that professional mechanic skills are required to complete the installation of this kit. This is a caution-level requirement and appears prominently in the installation diagram section.
1. Lift the vehicle and support the frame with safety stands. Drop the axle down low enough to set the air spring assemblies into position between frame and leaf spring. 2. Remove the rear wheels. 3. Remove the jounce bumper assembly using a metric socket and extension (access via the hole in the middle of the jounce bumper). Discard the jounce bumper assembly. 4. Move the vent tube line holder around the emergency brake cable inward until it aligns with the vent tube bolted into the axle. Attach a zip tie around the emergency brake cable to prevent the holder from moving toward the tire.
Drilling is required only for the Schrader valve mounting location. You must drill a 5/16" (8mm) hole in the chosen location (inside fuel tank filler door, inside rear wheel wells, or license plate/rear bumper area). The upper frame bracket installation reuses the existing jounce bumper hole, so no drilling is required there.
Yes. The air line must be cut in half. Make clean, square cuts using a razor blade or hose cutter. Do not use scissors or wire cutters, as these will produce bad cuts that may cause leaks. After cutting, install the Schrader valve in the chosen location.
The upper frame brackets (part B) must be torqued to 31 lb.-ft. (42 Nm). This is done after inserting the M10 button head cap screw through the 3/8" flat washer, upper frame bracket, and 1/2" flat washer, using the existing jounce bumper hole.
The flat head screws (part G) attaching the upper air spring bracket (part C) to the air spring assembly must be torqued to no more than 20 lb.-ft. (27 Nm).
The flat head screws (part G) attaching the lower brackets (part A) to the air spring assembly must be torqued to no more than 20 lb.-ft. (27 Nm).
The lower bracket mounting hardware (U-bolts and serrated flange lock nuts) must be torqued to 15 lb.-ft. (20 Nm).
The upper bracket mounting hardware (3/8" carriage bolts) must be torqued to 31 lb.-ft. (42 Nm). This is done after the lower bracket hardware has been torqued.
The straight air fittings (part F) should be tightened finger tight plus 1 1/2 turns. Do not over-tighten, as this may damage the fitting.
A 5/16" (8mm) hole must be drilled for the Schrader valve mounting location. The valve is installed with hex nuts, flat washer, star washer, and rubber washer as shown in the installation diagram.
The Schrader valve can be located in one of three places: inside the fuel tank filler door, inside the rear wheel wells, or in the license plate or rear bumper area. For LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Plus kits, the recommended location is the rear bumper area or license plate.
The maximum air pressure is 100 PSI (7 BAR). Never inflate beyond this pressure. Although the air springs are rated at this maximum, the actual air pressure needed depends on load and gross vehicle weight rating.
The minimum recommended pressure is 5 PSI (0.34 BAR). Always maintain normal ride height and do not exceed the vehicle manufacturer's maximum gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) or payload rating.
Keep at least 6 inches (150 mm) of clearance between all air lines and the exhaust system. Avoid sharp bends and edges on the air lines. A heat shield must be installed to protect the passenger's side air spring from exhaust heat.
The installation checklist requires: (1) Clearance test—inflate to 40-60 PSI and verify at least 1/2" (13 mm) clearance from tire, brakes, frame, shock absorbers and brake cables. (2) Leak test—inflate to 30 PSI and check all connections with soapy water solution; all leaks must be eliminated before road testing. (3) Heat test—verify at least 6" (152 mm) clearance from heat sources; install heat shield if included. (4) Fastener test—after 500 miles, recheck all bolts for proper torque. (5) Road test—drive 10 miles and recheck for clearance, loose fasteners and air leaks.
