The kit includes: 2 lower brackets (03912), 1 left-hand upper bracket (07802), 1 right-hand upper bracket (07903), 2 axle clamp bars (01531), 2 air springs (58496), 4 roll plates (11967), 8 3/8-inch hex cap screws 7/8-inch (17203), 8 3/8-inch lock washers (18444), 26 3/8-inch flat washers (18444), 2 90-degree swivel elbow fittings (21837), 2 P-clamps (10976), 2 round U-bolts (11520), 2 square U-bolts (11717), 4 3/8-inch carriage bolts 4-inch (17166), 2 1/4-inch hex-head screws 3/4-inch (17261), 2 3/8-inch J-bolts 3.75-inch (17309), 2 M14-1.5 x 40 hex flange bolts (17508), 4 #12 flat washers (18419), 2 1/4-inch nylon lock nuts (18425), 18 3/8-inch nylon lock nuts (18435), 1 EVAP control valve bracket (11543, gas models only), 1 hose assembly (20086), 6 zip ties (10466), 2 5/16-inch flat washers (18501), 2 star washers (18411), 2 valve caps (21230), 4 5/16-inch hex nuts (21233), and 2 rubber washers (21234).
Raise the vehicle on a drive-on hoist or with a floor jack and support it using two safety stands so the axle can be safely dropped away from the frame. This is necessary to position the air spring assembly between the axle and frame. Wear safety glasses during installation.
You must: (1) pull plastic harness fasteners away from the frame on the wiring harness behind the axle on both sides so the harness is loose; (2) unbolt and pull aside the frame vent tube bracket and vent tube; (3) remove the rear 5th-wheel hitch frame bolts and discard them; (4) remove ABS lines from brackets on both sides of the axle; (5) on the driver's (left) side, loosen the bolt holding the rear brake line to the axle bracket, rotate the brake line counter-clockwise as far as it will go, and tighten the bolt to hold it in position for clearance; (6) for gas models only, pull up on the EVAP control valve to remove it from the frame bracket, then bend the bracket fingers inboard and down with channel lock pliers.
Insert the J-bolt (part 17309) into the large hole on the inside of the frame rail just behind the round crossmember on both driver's (left) and passenger's (right) sides. Install the square U-bolt (part 11717) around the spring perch forward of the axle, rotating it around the back side and ensuring it fits between the ABS line/bracket and the spring. Set the round U-bolt (part 11520) over the round crossmember located above the axle on both sides, being careful not to pinch any wiring on the driver's side.
Set a roll plate (part 11967) on top of the air spring (part 58496) with the rounded edge toward the spring so it seats inside the roll plate. Install the 90-degree swivel fitting (part 21837) into the top of the air spring, finger-tight plus one and a half turns. Set both upper brackets (parts 07802 and 07903) onto the top of the air springs and attach with two 3/8-inch hex-cap screws (part 17203), 3/8-inch lock washers (part 18427), and 3/8-inch flat washers (part 18444), leaving them loose. Flip the assembly upside down and set a roll plate on the bottom. Install the lower brackets (part 03912) onto the air spring assembly with two 3/8-inch hex-cap screws, lock washers, and flat washers, ensuring the flanges on the lower bracket face the fitting on the top of the air spring.
Drop the axle down low enough to set the assemblies into position onto the axle just inside the leaf spring, with the air fitting on the assemblies facing outboard (tire side). Raise the axle just enough so the upper bracket touches the frame, aligning the J-bolt and round U-bolts with the holes in the bracket. Attach the upper bracket to the 5th-wheel mounting hole on the side of the frame using the M14-1.5 x 40 hex flange bolt (part 17508) with medium-strength blue threadlocker compound applied before insertion. Cap the J-bolt and round U-bolt with three 3/8-inch flat washers and 3/8-inch nylon lock nuts.
Snug the M14 bolt first, then torque the 3/8-inch U-bolt and J-bolt evenly to 15 lb.-ft. (20 Nm). Torque the M14 hardware to 77 lb.-ft. (105 Nm). Torque the axle clamp hardware to 15 lb.-ft. (20 Nm). Torque the spring perch/lower bracket hardware to 15 lb.-ft. (20 Nm). In final adjustments, tighten the lower hardware to no more than 20 lb.-ft. (27 Nm). Tighten the upper mounting hardware no more than 20 lb.-ft. (27 Nm).
Attach the lower bracket by inserting the legs of the previously installed square U-bolt around the spring perch through the corresponding holes in the lower bracket. Insert two 3/8-inch carriage bolts 4-inch (part 17166) through the holes in the lower bracket and install the lower axle clamp bar (part 01531) under the axle. Cap the carriage bolts with two 3/8-inch flat washers and 3/8-inch nylon lock nuts, but do not tighten at this time. Push the lower bracket up against the stock leaf spring U-bolts, ensuring the tabs on the lower bracket are locked around the outside of the U-bolts, and snug the spring perch/lower bracket U-bolt evenly without tightening. Tighten the axle spring clamp evenly until tight, then torque the axle clamp hardware to 15 lb.-ft. (20 Nm) and the spring perch/lower bracket hardware to 15 lb.-ft. (20 Nm).
In final adjustments, push the lower bellows inboard on the lower bracket and tighten the lower hardware to no more than 20 lb.-ft. (27 Nm). Align the upper bellows by moving it forward or backward, then tighten the upper mounting hardware no more than 20 lb.-ft. (27 Nm).
For diesel models only: Install the P-clamp (part 10976) over the wiring on the driver's (left) side and attach to the upper bracket with the P facing the frame. Attach the P-clamp with one 1/4-inch hex-head screw 3/4-inch (part 17261), two #12 flat washers (part 18419), and one 1/4-inch nylon lock nut (part 18425). Tighten securely.
For gas models only: Install the P-clamp (part 10976) around the wiring harness on the driver's (left) side. Insert one 1/4-inch hex-head screw 3/4-inch (part 17261) into the EVAP control valve bracket (part 11543). Insert the bracket into the EVAP control valve using the same slot the stock bracket was removed from, then install the assembly onto the upper bracket. Install the P-clamp previously put around the wiring onto the EVAP control valve mounting bolt and attach with a #12 flat washer (part 18419) and 1/4-inch nylon lock nut (part 18425). If necessary, rotate or bend the bracket to gain clearance around the control valve. Tighten securely.
Install the other P-clamp (part 10976) around the passenger's (right) side wiring and ABS line that had been previously removed. Along with the previously removed axle vent tube bracket, attach the P-clamp and wiring to the upper bracket using one 1/4-inch hex-head screw 3/4-inch (part 17261), two #12 flat washers (part 18419), and one 1/4-inch nylon lock nut (part 18425). Tighten securely. Bend the emergency brake line brackets located on the axle forward on both sides far enough for the line to gain clearance of the lower bracket. Tie off the ABS line on the passenger's (right) side, which was disconnected from the axle bracket, to the axle vent tube with a zip tie (part 10466). Tie off the ABS line behind the axle on the driver's (left) side to the soft brake line with a zip tie.
Yes, drilling is required to install the Schrader valves. You must drill a 5/16-inch (8 mm) hole in the chosen location for each Schrader valve. Use a drill with a 5/16-inch drill bit. Make clean, square cuts when cutting the air line with a razor blade or hose cutter; do not use scissors or wire cutters.
Recommended locations for Schrader valves are: (A) inside the fuel tank filler door, (B) inside rear wheel wells, or (C) license plate or rear bumper area. For LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Plus kits, the recommended location is the rear bumper area or license plate.
Use zip ties to secure the air line to fixed points along the chassis. Do not pinch or kink the air line. The minimum bend radius for the air line is 1 inch (25 mm). Leave at least 2 inches (50 mm) of slack in the air line to allow for any movement that might pull on the air line. Keep at least 6 inches (150 mm) of clearance between all air lines and the exhaust system. Avoid sharp bends and edges.
The maximum air pressure is 100 PSI (7 BAR). Although the air springs are rated at a maximum inflation pressure of 100 PSI, the air pressure actually needed is dependent on load and gross vehicle weight rating. Never inflate beyond 100 PSI.
The minimum recommended pressure is 5 PSI (0.34 BAR).
Check air pressure weekly. Always maintain normal ride height.
Perform the following tests: (1) Clearance test — Inflate the air springs to 40–60 PSI (2.8–4.1 BAR) and ensure at least 1/2 inch (13 mm) clearance from anything that might rub, checking the tire, brakes, frame, shock absorbers, and brake cables. (2) Leak test — Inflate the air springs to 40–60 PSI and check all connections for leaks; all leaks must be eliminated before road testing. (3) Heat test — Ensure at least 6 inches (152 mm) clearance from heat sources for air springs and air lines; install a heat shield if included or contact Air Lift customer service if one is required. (4) Fastener test — Recheck all bolts for proper torque. (5) Road test — After the preceding tests, inflate the air springs to recommended driving pressures, drive the vehicle 10 miles (16 km), and recheck for clearance, loose fasteners, and air leaks.
Use a soapy water solution to check all air line connections and the inflation valve core. Spray the solution on all connections and look for bubbles, which indicate a leak. If the system develops an air leak, check all connections and the valve core before deflating and removing the air spring.
