The LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate is an adjustable air helper spring system that provides up to 5,000 pounds (2,268 kg) of load-leveling support for the rear axle. It uses reinforced, commercial-grade convolute bellows with an internal jounce bumper and allows air pressure adjustment from 5 to 100 PSI (0.34 to 7 BAR) to level the vehicle under load.

The kit includes: two air springs with roll plates, upper and lower brackets, 3/8"-24 x 3 3/4" studs, 3/8"-24 x 7/8" hex-head cap screws, 3/8" lock washers, flat washers, 5/16"-18 x 1" hex-head cap screws, 5/16" lock nuts, 3/8"-16 x 3 1/2" carriage bolts, 3/8"-16 nylon lock nuts, air lines, Schrader valves with hardware, thermal heat shield, and air line thermal sleeves.
Normal ride height is the distance between the bottom of the bumper and a flat road surface with the vehicle in an "as delivered condition" without load (no toolbox, camper, etc.). Measure the distance from the fender well to the center point of the hub before installation. All LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate kits are designed to be installed and operate at normal ride height.
Jack up the rear of the vehicle or raise it on a hoist. Place safety jack stands under the axle and adjust so that the axle-to-frame distance is the same as design or normal ride height. The vehicle must be properly supported throughout the installation process.
Position the air spring with the air port facing up. Insert the air fitting into the air port and tighten finger-tight plus 2 turns using a 9/16" open-end wrench. Tighten only on the metal hex nut, being careful not to over-tighten. The fitting is precoated with thread sealant.
The short threaded end of the stud must go down into the air spring. The stud is inserted into the outboard tapped hole of the upper bracket and turned in carefully until it bottoms out.
Set the roll plate on the bottom of the air spring. Attach the lower bracket to the bottom of the air spring on both units using the holes shown in the installation diagram. The extended tabs must face rearward. Use 3/8" lock washers and 3/8"-24 x 7/8" hex-head cap screws, torqued to 15–20 lb.-ft. (20–27 Nm). Yes. Remove both rear rubber axle jounce bumpers and discard them. It is not necessary to remove the metal jounce bumper bracket.
Set the air spring assembly on the axle inboard of the leaf spring. Squeeze the air spring down and align the stud with the original jounce bumper mounting hole. Insert the stud through the hole and fasten with a flat washer and 3/8"-24 lock nut. Fasten the side of the bracket to the frame rail using a 5/16"-18 x 1" hex-head cap screw, flat washers and 5/16" lock nut. Torque all three fasteners to 15 lb.-ft. (20 Nm).
On some models, a plastic stud for a wiring harness hanger may protrude through the jounce bumper mounting hole. Push the plastic stud back through the frame and use the existing hole to mount the upper bracket to the side of the frame rail.
Position the lower bracket so it sits square on the axle. Install all four 3/8"-16 x 3 1/2" carriage bolts through the outer holes of the lower bracket. Slide the axle straps up onto the carriage bolts with the extended end facing the rear for brake line clearance. Hold the assembly loosely in place using flat washers and lock nuts. Adjust the bracket so the air spring is square, then tighten all four lock nuts securely. Be careful not to bend the straps into contact with the brake line.
Yes. Installation of this kit requires an exhaust heat shield. The shield is attached to the exhaust pipe with flanges bent for component clearance. Bend the tabs to provide 1/2" dead air space between the exhaust pipes and heat shield and maximum clearance with the air spring.
A slight adjustment may be required. Loosen the exhaust clamp between the muffler and catalytic converter. Push the muffler and tailpipe toward the rear of the vehicle, retaining a minimum of 3/4" between the tailpipe and frame crossmember, then retighten the clamp.
Cut the air line in half using a razor blade or hose cutter, making clean, square cuts. Do not use scissors or wire cutters. Use zip ties to secure the air line to fixed points along the chassis without pinching or kinking it. Leave at least 2" (51 mm) of slack in the air line to allow for vehicle movement. The minimum bend radius for the air line is 1" (25 mm).
Choose locations for the Schrader valves from these options: inside the fuel tank filler door, inside rear wheel wells, or in the license plate or rear bumper area. Drill a 5/16" (8 mm) hole if necessary. Install the Schrader valve in the chosen location.
Slide the air line thermal sleeve over the air line and position it where the air line is closest to the exhaust system.
Torque the 3/8"-24 x 7/8" hex-head cap screws that attach the lower bracket to the air spring to 15–20 lb.-ft. (20–27 Nm).

Yes. For safety and to prevent possible damage to the vehicle, do not exceed the maximum gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) or payload rating as indicated by the vehicle manufacturer. Although the air springs are rated at a maximum inflation pressure of 100 PSI (7 BAR), the air pressure actually needed is dependent on load and GVWR.
Perform the following tests in order: (1) Clearance test—inflate to 40–60 PSI and verify at least 1/2" clearance from tires, brakes, frame, shock absorbers and brake cables. (2) Leak test—inflate to 40–60 PSI and check all connections for leaks; all leaks must be eliminated before road testing. (3) Heat test—verify at least 6" clearance from heat sources. (4) Fastener test—recheck all bolts for proper torque. (5) Road test—drive 10 miles and recheck for clearance, loose fasteners and air leaks.
