These 3" nerf bars are constructed from strong carbon steel for superior rigidity, and they feature a sleek semi-gloss black powder coat finish. For an added edge, each nerf bar also goes through an E-coat process, before receiving its black powder coat, to strengthen and protect the final finish against peeling, chipping and scratching. ARIES 3" round side bars are also available in polished stainless steel or semi-gloss black powder-coated steel. All ARIES 3" nerf bars come with heavy-duty steel brackets and non-skid step pads. The mounting brackets are strong and custom-designed for specific makes and models to allow the side bars to contour to the lines of your vehicle. They offer easy installation and the strength ne cessary to provide sound footing. These particular custom nerf bars fit specific years of the Ford F150 (see application info to verify fitment). ARIES 3" round side bars also come with non-skid step pads made of tough polypropylene. These step pads feature a textured pattern for enhanced safety, and they cover a wide portion of the tubes for a more comfortable step.

The kit includes: 2 ARIES step bars (1 driver side, 1 passenger side); 2 front mounting brackets and 2 rear mounting brackets; 4 × ½"–13 × 2" hex bolts; 2 × ½"–13 hex bolts; 6 × ½" flat washers; 6 × ½" lock washers; 16 × 5/16"–18 × 1.25" hex bolts; 24 × 5/16" flat washers; 16 × 5/16" lock washers; 8 × 5/16" hex nuts; 2 × ½" bolt plates; 8 clip nuts; and 2 plastic washers.
The factory openings are located on the inner wall of your truck's rocker panel. Refer to Figure A in the manual for the exact locations. These openings are covered with rubber covers and black tape that must be pried off before installation.
1. Review instructions and verify all parts are included. 2. Locate factory openings on the rocker panel inner wall (Figure A). 3. Pry off rubber covers and black tape; install 8 clip nuts into the openings shown in Figure A. 4. Install the 2 × ½" bolt plates through the rear openings with plastic washers attached to hold the plates in place. 5. Attach front and rear brackets to the rocker panel using 5/16" and ½" hardware; hand-tighten only. 6. Mount the step bars to the brackets using ½" × 2" bolts; level and align with the front edge of the rocker panel, then apply final torque. 7. Perform final inspection by stepping onto the top of the bars.
The manual requires locating and using factory openings on the rocker panel and removing rubber covers and black tape from these openings. No other factory component removal is mentioned in the instructions.
Hand-tighten means to tighten the front and rear mounting brackets to the rocker panel using only hand pressure, without using tools, before the final torque specification is applied. This allows for alignment and levelling of the step bars before final tightening.
After mounting the step bars to the brackets with ½" × 2" bolts, level and align the bar with the front edge of the rocker panel before applying final torque. The manual does not specify the tools or method for levelling.
Apply 60 ft-lbs torque to all ½" bolts and hex nuts. Apply 20 ft-lbs torque to all 5/16" bolts. These specifications must be applied after hand-tightening and alignment are complete.
The step bars are mounted to the front and rear brackets using ½"–13 × 2" hex bolts. These bolts are tightened to 60 ft-lbs.
The front and rear mounting brackets are attached to the rocker panel using 5/16"–18 × 1.25" hex bolts, along with 5/16" flat washers, 5/16" lock washers, and 5/16" hex nuts. These bolts are tightened to 20 ft-lbs.
Clip nuts are fasteners that attach to the factory openings on the rocker panel. Eight clip nuts are installed into the openings shown in Figure A after the rubber covers and black tape are removed. They hold the bolt plates and brackets in place.
The two ½" bolt plates are inserted through the rear factory openings on the rocker panel. Plastic washers are attached to each bolt plate to hold it in place before insertion. These plates provide a mounting surface for the rear brackets.
After all bolts are torqued to specification, carefully step onto the top of the step bars on both the driver and passenger sides. This verifies that the installation is secure and the bars can safely support your weight.
