These 3" nerf bars are constructed from strong carbon steel for superior rigidity, and they feature a sleek semi-gloss black powder coat finish. For an added edge, each nerf bar also goes through an E-coat process, before receiving its black powder coat, to strengthen and protect the final finish against peeling, chipping and scratching. ARIES 3" round side bars are also available in polished stainless steel or semi-gloss black powder-coated steel. All ARIES 3" nerf bars come with heavy-duty steel brackets and non-skid step pads. The mounting brackets are strong and custom-designed for specific makes and models to allow the side bars to contour to the lines of your vehicle. They of fer easy installation and the strength necessary to provide sound footing. These particular custom nerf bars fit specific years of the Chevy Silverado 1500, 1500 HD, 2500, 2500 HD, 2500 HD Classic, 3500 or 3500 HD and GMC Sierra 1500, 1500 HD, 2500, 2500 HD, 3500 or 3500 HD (see application info to verify fitment). ARIES 3" round side bars also come with non-skid step pads made of tough polypropylene. The manual states that proper tools will improve installation quality and reduce time, but does not provide a specific tool list. Based on the hardware involved (10mm and 12mm bolts and washers), you will need appropriate sockets, wrenches, or a socket set to fit these sizes. For 2010 and later GM trucks, hand tools only—do NOT use impact tools.

Fasten the middle bracket to the side bar using one 10mm × 25mm bolt and one 10mm flat washer. 8. Adjust the side bar to be level and centered, then tighten all bolts. 9. Repeat for the passenger-side.
No. When attaching the front and rear mounting brackets to the body mounts, snug the hardware but do not fully tighten. Tighten all bolts only after the side bar is adjusted to be level and centered.
Attach the side bar to the front and rear brackets using one 12mm × 50mm bolt, one 12mm lock washer, and one 12mm flat washer for each bracket. Hand tighten initially. Then fasten the middle mounting bracket to the side bar using one 10mm × 25mm bolt and one 10mm flat washer.

Starting in late 2010, GM changed to a loose nut surrounded by a "Cage Nut" with tabs to prevent loosening, and applied Heavy Duty Loc-tite to body mount bolts. Using impact tools can cause the bolts to seize and the cage nut tabs to bend, allowing the nut to spin freely inside the chassis floorboard. Loosen and re-tighten all body mount bolts by hand only. If bolts become increasingly tight while loosening, retighten and loosen them several times to clear the Loc-tite from the threads.
This indicates Heavy Duty Loc-tite on the bolts. Retighten the bolt, then loosen it again. Repeat this process several times to clear the Loc-tite from the threads. Do not use impact tools. If you continue to experience difficulty, contact ARIES Customer Service at 888-800-2743.
After installation, adjust the side bar so that it is level and centered, then tighten all bolts. Perform periodic inspections to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight. To protect the product, wax after installing. Regular waxing is recommended to add a protective layer over the finish.
Wax the side bars after installation and regularly thereafter to add a protective layer over the finish. For gloss black finishes, mild soap may be used to clean the product. Do not use any type of polish or wax that may contain abrasives, as these could damage the finish.
