These 3" nerf bars are constructed from strong carbon steel for superior rigidity, and they feature a sleek semi-gloss black powder coat finish. For an added edge, each nerf bar also goes through an E-coat process, before receiving its black powder coat, to strengthen and protect the final finish against peeling, chipping and scratching. ARIES 3" round side bars are also available in polished stainless steel or semi-gloss black powder-coated steel. All ARIES 3" nerf bars come with heavy-duty steel brackets and non-skid step pads. The mounting brackets are strong and custom-designed for specific makes and models to allow the side bars to contour to the lines of your vehicle. They offer easy installation and the strength necessary to provide sound footing. These particular custom nerf bars fit specific years of the Chevy Silverado 1500, 2500 HD, 2500 HD Classic or 3500 HD and GMC Sierra 1500, 2500 HD or 3500 HD (see application info to verify fitment). ARIES 3" round side bars also come with non-skid step pads made of tough polypropylene. The kit includes one driver/left side bar, one passenger/right side bar, six universal mounting brackets, two passenger/right front upper mounting brackets, two passenger/right front lower mounting brackets, 14 clip nuts (M8), 30 hex bolts (M8 x 25mm), 30 flat washers (M8), 30 lock washers (M8), two hex bolts (M10 x 30mm), two flat washers (M10), and two lock washers (M10).
The ARIES 204045 is a universal side bar kit designed for vehicles with five mounting tabs along the bottom edge of the vehicle body. The installation uses the first, second, fourth and fifth mounting tabs. Verify your vehicle has these mounting tabs before purchasing. The passenger side installation also requires a rocker panel with weld nuts. If your vehicle has a DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) tank, you will not be able to use M8 hardware on the front upper bracket on the passenger side. The manual notes that M8 hardware is not used with a DEF tank in this location. You will need a ratchet, 16mm socket, 16mm wrench, 13mm socket, and a bubble level. Proper tools will improve installation quality and reduce installation time.

Read all instructions thoroughly before beginning. Ensure the vehicle is on level ground, as this is required in Step 9 to properly level and align the side bars. Gather all required tools: ratchet, 16mm socket, 16mm wrench, 13mm socket, and a bubble level.
Four universal mounting brackets are installed on the driver side: one at the first mounting tab, one at the second mounting tab, one at the fourth mounting tab, and one at the fifth mounting tab. The installation skips the third mounting tab.
1. Install four universal mounting brackets on the driver side at mounting tabs 1, 2, 4, and 5 (snug but do not fully tighten). 2. Position the driver side bar onto the brackets and attach with eight M8 bolts (snug but do not fully tighten). 3. Level the driver side bar using a bubble level and tighten all hardware. 4. Install two passenger front upper and lower mounting brackets on the rocker panel (snug but do not fully tighten). 5. Install four universal mounting brackets on the passenger side at mounting tabs 1, 2, 4, and 5 (snug but do not fully tighten). 6. Position the passenger side bar onto the brackets and attach with eight M8 bolts (snug but do not fully tighten). 7. Level the passenger side bar and tighten all hardware.
Snugging hardware (tightening it hand-tight without full torque) before final tightening allows you to position and align the brackets and side bars. Once the side bar is leveled and aligned with the vehicle, all hardware is then fully tightened to the correct torque specification. This two-stage process ensures proper alignment and prevents misalignment.
Position the side bar carefully onto the mounting brackets, ensuring all mount locations on the bottom of the side bar line up with the mounting brackets. Attach the side bar using eight M8 hex bolts, lock washers, and flat washers. Snug the hardware but do not fully tighten. Once the side bar is leveled and aligned, tighten all hardware to the correct torque specification.
Verify that all brackets have been installed in the correct locations and that the correct side bar is being used (driver side bar on driver side, passenger side bar on passenger side). If brackets are in the correct locations and the correct side bar is being used, contact ARIES Automotive at 877.287.8634 for assistance.
M8 bolts should be torqued to 7 ft.-lbs. unless otherwise noted in the installation instructions.
M10 bolts should be torqued to 31.6 ft.-lbs. This specification applies to the M10 hardware securing the passenger front upper and lower mounting brackets together in Step 10.
M8 bolts securing the side bar to the mounting brackets should be torqued to 7 ft.-lbs., which is the standard M8 torque specification listed in the manual.
Ensure the vehicle is on level ground. Use a bubble level to check that the side bar is level and parallel with the side of the vehicle. Make adjustments to the bracket positions and rotate the side bar as necessary until it is level. Once leveled and aligned, tighten all hardware on the brackets to the vehicle, then double-check that the side bar remains level before finalizing the installation.
Eight M8 hex bolts are used to attach each side bar to its mounting brackets. Each bolt is paired with a lock washer and flat washer.
Clip nuts (M8) are used to secure the mounting brackets to the vehicle's mounting tabs. They are slid over the mounting tabs through access holes or by rotating the bracket to expose the hole. The clip nuts allow the brackets to be secured without access to the back side of the mounting tab.
For the first and second mounting tabs: rotate the bottom of the bracket to the side to expose the hole in the mounting tab, slide an M8 clip nut over the mounting tab, then rotate the bracket back into position. For the fourth and fifth mounting tabs: remove the rubber plug from the access hole, insert a clip nut through the access hole, and align it over the adjacent small hole.
For mounting tabs 1 and 2: rotate the bracket to expose the hole, insert the clip nut, and rotate the bracket back. For mounting tabs 4 and 5: remove a rubber plug from an access hole, insert the clip nut through the access hole, and align it over an adjacent small hole. Both methods use the same hardware (M8 bolts, lock washers, flat washers) but access the mounting tabs differently.
Six mounting brackets are installed on the passenger side: two passenger/right front upper and lower mounting brackets (which attach to the rocker panel), and four universal mounting brackets at mounting tabs 1, 2, 4, and 5.
Place the upper mounting bracket against the rocker panel and align the weld nut on the upper bracket with the mounting hole in the rocker panel. Secure it using an M8 hex bolt, M8 lock washer, and M8 flat washer. Align one of the passenger front lower mounting brackets with the upper bracket and secure the two together using an M10 hex bolt, M10 lock washer, and M10 flat washer. Torque the M10 hardware to 31.6 ft.-lbs. Repeat this process for the second passenger mounting bracket. Snug the M8 hardware but do not fully tighten.
Perform periodic inspections to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight. To protect the product, wax after installing. Regular waxing is recommended to add a protective layer over the finish. Do not use any type of polish or wax that may contain abrasives that could damage the finish. For polished, gloss and other smooth finishes, polish may be used to clear small scratches and scuffs. Clean the product with mild automotive detergent only. Do not use dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, wire brushes or other similar products that may damage the finish.
The vehicle must be on level ground to ensure the side bars are properly leveled and aligned parallel with the side of the vehicle. This is critical for correct installation and appearance. A level surface allows the bubble level to accurately indicate whether the side bar is properly positioned.
No drilling, cutting, or welding is required. The kit uses existing mounting tabs on the vehicle body. However, vehicles with a DEF tank cannot use M8 hardware on the passenger front upper bracket.
