ARIES nerf bars are all made vehicle-specific for a custom, no-drill fit, and they are available in multiple finish options. This set of nerf bars is constructed from 304 stainless steel with a polished finish. Our 304 stainless steel is a true stainless with high nickel content, offering better corrosion resistance and a long-lasting finish. The polish is a triple application, resulting in a mirror-like shine to complement your vehicle. ARIES 3" round side bars also come with high-strength steel brackets and non-skid step pads. The mounting brackets -- as well as the side bars and step pads -- are custom-designed for specific makes and models to allow the nerf bars to contour to the lines of your vehicle. This ensures easy, no-drill installation and the strength necessary to pro vide solid footing. This particular set of custom nerf bars fits specific years of the Chevy Silverado 1500, 2500 HD, 2500 HD Classic or 3500 HD and GMC Sierra 1500, 2500 HD or 3500 HD (see application info to verify fitment). ARIES 3" round side bars also come with non-skid step pads made of polypropylene. These wide, custom-positioned step pads feature a textured pattern and cover a wide portion of the tubes to be more comfortable and high-traction, even in wet conditions.

The ARIES 204045-2 is a universal side bar kit designed for vehicles with five mounting tabs along the bottom edge of the body. Your vehicle must have these tabs for installation. If your vehicle has a DEF tank, you will not be able to use M8 hardware on the front upper bracket on the passenger side. The installation process will be modified for the front passenger mounting brackets. All other installation steps remain the same.
You will need: a ratchet, 16 mm socket, 16 mm wrench, 13 mm socket, and a bubble level. Proper tools will improve installation quality and reduce installation time.

The manual rates this installation as 'Easy' and does not require professional installation. However, you will need basic mechanical skills, the correct tools, and the ability to work safely under a vehicle. If you are uncomfortable performing the installation yourself, professional installation is recommended.
The installation uses the first, second, fourth, and fifth mounting tabs along the bottom edge of the vehicle body. The third mounting tab is not used. Four universal mounting brackets are installed at these locations.
Four universal mounting brackets are installed on the driver side: one at the first mounting tab, one at the second mounting tab, one at the fourth mounting tab, and one at the fifth mounting tab. The driver side bar is then attached to these four brackets with eight M8 hex bolts.
1. Install four universal mounting brackets on the driver side at mounting tabs 1, 2, 4, and 5 using M8 hardware (snug, do not fully tighten). 2. Attach the driver side bar to the brackets with eight M8 bolts (snug, do not fully tighten). 3. Level the side bar and tighten all hardware. 4. Install the two front passenger mounting brackets on the rocker panel and secure them together with M10 hardware (torque to 31.6 ft-lbs). 5. Install four universal mounting brackets on the passenger side at mounting tabs 1, 2, 4, and 5. 6. Attach the passenger side bar to the brackets and level it. 7. Tighten all hardware.
Hardware is snugged (tightened by hand with a wrench or ratchet, but not fully torqued) during the initial bracket and side bar attachment to allow for adjustment. Once the side bar is leveled and aligned properly, all hardware is then fully tightened to the correct torque specification. This two-stage process ensures proper alignment before final tightening.
After attaching the side bar to all mounting brackets with snugged hardware, place the vehicle on level ground. Use a bubble level to ensure the side bar is level and parallel with the side of the vehicle. Make adjustments to the bracket positions and rotate the side bar as necessary until it is properly aligned. Once aligned, tighten all hardware on the brackets to the vehicle, then double-check that the side bar is still level before finalizing the installation.
If the holes on the side bar do not align with the brackets, first ensure that all brackets have been installed in the correct locations (mounting tabs 1, 2, 4, and 5). Second, verify that you are using the correct side bar for the side of the vehicle you are installing on (driver/left side bar or passenger/right side bar). If both are correct, contact ARIES Automotive at 877.287.8634 for assistance.
Eight M8 hex bolts (each with a lock washer and flat washer) attach the side bar to the mounting brackets. These bolts are snugged initially, then fully tightened after the side bar is leveled and aligned.
For mounting tabs 1 and 2: After attaching the universal bracket to the body panel with one M8 bolt, rotate the bottom of the bracket to the side to expose the hole in the mounting tab. Slide an M8 clip nut over the mounting tab and rotate the bracket back into position. Secure the bracket with a second M8 bolt. For mounting tabs 4 and 5: Remove the rubber plug from the access hole, insert a clip nut through the access hole, and align it over the adjacent small hole. Secure the bracket with M8 bolts.
M8 bolts are torqued to 7 ft.-lbs. unless otherwise noted in the installation instructions.
M10 bolts are torqued to 31.6 ft-lbs. This torque specification applies to the M10 hardware securing the front passenger mounting brackets together.
Each universal mounting bracket is attached to the body panel using two M8 hex bolts (M8 × 25 mm), each with one M8 lock washer and one M8 flat washer. These bolts are torqued to 7 ft.-lbs.
The front upper mounting bracket is secured to the rocker panel using one M8 hex bolt, one M8 lock washer, and one M8 flat washer (torqued to 7 ft.-lbs.). The upper and lower front passenger mounting brackets are secured together using one M10 hex bolt (M10 × 30 mm), one M10 lock washer, and one M10 flat washer (torqued to 31.6 ft-lbs.).
The M8 hex bolts are M8 × 25 mm. Thirty of these bolts are included in the kit.
The M10 hex bolts are M10 × 30 mm. Two of these bolts are included in the kit and are used to secure the front passenger mounting brackets together.
After installation, periodic inspections should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight. To protect the product, wax the side bars after installation. Regular waxing is recommended to add a protective layer over the finish. Do not use any type of polish or wax that may contain abrasives, as these could damage the finish. For polished, gloss, and other smooth finishes, polish may be used to clear small scratches and scuffs. Mild automotive detergent may be used to clean the product. Do not use dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, wire brushes, or similar products that may damage the finish.
Periodic inspections should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight. The manual does not specify an exact interval. It is recommended to inspect the hardware after the first few weeks of use and then regularly thereafter, such as every few months or before long trips.
Use only mild automotive detergent to clean the product. Do not use dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, wire brushes, or other similar products that may damage the finish.
