ARIES nerf bars are all made vehicle-specific for a custom, no-drill fit, and they are available in multiple finish options. This set of nerf bars is constructed from 304 stainless steel with a polished finish. Our 304 stainless steel is a true stainless with high nickel content, offering better corrosion resistance and a long-lasting finish. The polish is a triple application, resulting in a mirror-like shine to complement your vehicle. ARIES 3" round side bars also come with high-strength steel brackets and non-skid step pads. The mounting brackets -- as well as the side bars and step pads -- are custom-designed for specific makes and models to allow the nerf bars to contour to the lines of your vehicle. This ensures easy, no-drill installation and the strength necessary to provide solid footing. This particular set of custom nerf bars fits specific years of the Chevy Silverado 1500, 1500 Classic, 2500 HD, 2500 HD Classic, 3500 HD or 3500 Classic and GMC Sierra 1500, 1500 Classic, 2500 HD, 2500 HD Classic, 3500 HD or 3500 Classic (see application info to verify fitment). ARIES 3" round side bars also come with non-skid step pads made of polypropylene. Installation begins on the driver side. First, locate the two mounting locations underneath the vehicle. Install the front mounting bracket at the driver-side mounting tab using M8 hardware, snugging but not fully tightening. Then install the rear mounting bracket using the same process. Next, place the driver-side bar onto the brackets and secure with M8 hardware, snugged but not fully tightened. Adjust and level the bar, then tighten all brackets to the vehicle first, followed by the side bar connections. Repeat this entire process on the passenger side, noting that the passenger side uses additional upper and lower front brackets connected with M10 hardware torqued to 31.6 ft-lbs.
At the front driver-side mounting tab, locate the threaded hole on the inside of the body panel. Place a mounting bracket onto the vehicle and secure with an M8 hex bolt, M8 lock washer and M8 flat washer, snugging but not fully tightening. Rotate the bottom of the bracket to the side to expose the hole in the mounting tab. Slide an M8 clip nut over the mounting tab and rotate the bracket back into position. Finish securing the bracket with an M8 hex bolt, M8 lock washer and M8 flat washer, snugging but not fully tightening. Repeat this process for the rear mounting bracket.
Place the side bar onto the mounting brackets and align the mounting points. Secure the side bar to the brackets using an M8 hex bolt, lock washer and flat washer at each mounting location. Snug the hardware but do not fully tighten at this stage. After the bar is adjusted and leveled, tighten all brackets to the vehicle first, followed by the side bar connections.
Locate the front mounting point on the passenger side. Place the upper mounting bracket against the rocker panel and align the weld nut on the upper mounting bracket with the mounting hole in the rocker panel. Secure the top mounting bracket to the rocker panel using an M8 hex bolt, M8 lock washer and M8 flat washer. Align one of the passenger front lower mounting brackets with the upper mounting bracket. Secure the two mounting brackets together using an M10 hex bolt, M10 lock washer and M10 flat washer. Torque all M10 hardware to 31.6 ft-lbs. Repeat this process to install the second passenger mounting bracket. Snug the hardware but do not fully tighten.
After placing the side bar onto the mounting brackets and securing with M8 hardware (snugged but not fully tightened), use a level to adjust the side bar. Once the bar is level, tighten all brackets to the vehicle first, followed by the side bar connections.
M10 hardware on the passenger-side front brackets must be torqued to 31.6 ft-lbs. This is different from the standard M10 torque specification of 16 ft-lbs and must be applied during installation.
Use only mild automotive detergent to clean the product. Do not use dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, wire brushes or similar products that may damage the finish. For polished, gloss and other smooth finishes, polish may be used to clear small scratches and scuffs. Wax the product after installation and regularly thereafter to add a protective layer. Do not use any type of polish or wax that may contain abrasives that could damage the finish.
Periodic inspections should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight. The manual does not specify the inspection interval, but regular checks are recommended to maintain the integrity of the installation.
