ARIES 3" side bars add a custom look and dependable footing to your truck, Jeep or SUV. They feature a classic style, a strong design and non-skid step pads. ARIES nerf bars are all made vehicle-specific for a custom, no-drill fit, and they are available in multiple finish options. This set of nerf bars is constructed from 304 stainless steel with a polished finish. Our 304 stainless steel is a true stainless with high nickel content, offering better corrosion resistance and a long-lasting finish. The polish is a triple application, resulting in a mirror-like shine to complement your vehicle. ARIES 3" round side bars also come with high-strength steel brackets and non-skid step pads. The mounting brackets -- as well as the side bars and step pads -- are custom-designed for specific makes and models to allow the nerf bars to contour to the lines of your vehicle. This ensures easy, no-drill installation and the strength necessary to provide solid footing. This particular set of custom nerf bars fits specific years of the Chevy Silverado 1500, 1500 HD, 2500 HD, 2500 HD Classic or 3500 HD and GMC Sierra 1500 HD, 2500 HD or 3500 HD (see application info to verify fitment). ARIES 3" round side bars also come with non-skid step pads made of polypropylene. These wide, custom-positioned step pads feature a textured pattern and cover a wide portion of the tubes to be more comfortable and high-traction, even in wet conditions.

The Aries 204017-2 side bar is designed for Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra Light Duty and Heavy Duty Trucks in 1999–2011 Regular Cab and 2011 HD Regular Cab configurations. Verify your truck's year, model, cab style, and whether it is a Light Duty or Heavy Duty variant before purchasing. If your truck does not match these specifications, contact Aries Automotive at 877.287.8634 or visit ARIESAUTOMOTIVE.COM for fitment confirmation.
The manual states that General Motors made changes to late 2010 and 2012 models that affect side bar installation. These trucks use a loose nut surrounded by a cage nut and Heavy Duty Loc-tite on body mount bolts. While the manual indicates that most clients have installed existing side bar applications on these trucks with no issues, you must follow the special hand-loosening procedure for factory body mount bolts. Contact Aries Automotive at 888-800-2743 or 877.287.8634 to confirm fitment and receive detailed guidance for your specific model year.
Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra Light Duty and Heavy Duty Trucks, 1999–2011 Regular Cab and 2011 HD Regular Cab. Verify your cab style and model year before purchase.
The kit includes: 2 driver and passenger side bars; 4 mounting brackets (front and rear, driver and passenger); 2 brace brackets for front (99–11 Regular Cab); 2 brace brackets for front (2011 HD Regular Cab); 2 bolt tabs; 2 M10 × 30mm hex bolts, 2 M10 flat washers, 2 M10 lock washers, and 2 M10 nut plates (2011 models only); 4 M12 × 50mm hex bolts; 4 M12 × 120mm hex bolts; 6 M12 × 25mm × 2.5mm flat washers; 10 M12 × 35mm × 3mm flat washers; 14 M12 lock washers; and 2 M12 hex nuts. Verify all parts are present before beginning installation.
The manual does not specify required tools. However, it states that proper tools will improve installation quality and reduce time. For 2010 and later models, you must use hand tools only—do not use impact tools when removing factory body mount bolts.
Yes. Step 2 of the installation procedure requires you to remove the driver side body mounts from the underside of the vehicle and install the front driver side mounting bracket to the body mount location. The same procedure is repeated for the passenger side. The factory body mount bolts are reused to secure the new brackets.
On late 2010 and 2012 models, GM uses Heavy Duty Loc-tite on body mount bolts and a cage nut design. You must loosen and re-tighten all body mount bolts by hand only—do not use impact tools of any kind. If bolts become increasingly tight as you loosen them, retighten and loosen the bolt several times to clear the Loc-tite from the threads. Failure to follow this procedure may cause bolts to seize and the cage nut tabs to bend, allowing the nut to spin freely inside the chassis floor board.
No. On 2010 and later models, you must use hand tools only. Impact tools may cause bolts to seize and damage the cage nut. On earlier models, the manual does not explicitly address impact tool use; contact Aries Automotive at 877.287.8634 for guidance.
1. Remove factory driver side body mounts and install the front driver side mounting bracket, securing with M12 × 120mm hex bolt, M12 lock washer, and M12 flat washer. Snug but do not tighten. 2. Install the rear mounting bracket the same way. 3. Slide the bolt tab into the frame rail just ahead of the slotted hole (use the round hole, not the slotted hole) and secure the driver side brace bracket with M12 flat washer, M12 lock washer, and M12 hex nut. Snug but do not tighten. 4. For 2011 models only: insert the nut plate through the oval hole in the frame bottom, orient it toward the front round hole, and partially thread the M10 × 30mm bolt, M10 lock washer, and M10 flat washer. 5. Fasten the driver sidebar to the front and brace brackets with M12 × 50mm hex bolts, M12 lock washers, and M12 flat washers. Snug but do not tighten. 6. Install the rear of the sidebar to the rear mounting bracket with M12 × 50mm hex bolt, M12 lock washer, and M12 flat washer. Snug but do not tighten. 7. Level and align the sidebar, then tighten all hardware. 8. Repeat steps 2–7 for the passenger side.
Do not tighten bolts immediately. Steps 2, 3, 5, and 6 instruct you to snug but not tighten hardware. Only after the sidebar is leveled and aligned properly in step 7 should you tighten all hardware. This allows for proper positioning before final tightening.
Use the round hole, not the slotted hole. Step 3 states: 'Located on the underside of the frame rail just ahead of the slotted hole on frame (Just behind front body mount) slide the bolt tab into the frame and allow the bolt to drop through the round hole (Do not use the slotted hole).'
Yes. Step 4 applies only to 2011 models and requires insertion of a nut plate through an oval hole in the bottom of the frame toward the front of the vehicle. The nut plate is oriented toward the front round hole, and an M10 × 30mm hex bolt, M10 lock washer, and M10 flat washer are partially threaded into it. Earlier models (1999–2010) do not use this nut plate assembly. Verify your model year and follow the appropriate procedure.
Snug means to hand-tighten the bolts firmly but not to final torque specification. This holds the components in place for alignment and leveling. Final tightening to the specified torque value occurs only after the sidebar is leveled and aligned in step 7.
M12 bolts must be torqued to 28 ft.-lbs. This specification applies to all M12 × 120mm and M12 × 50mm hex bolts used in the installation.
M10 bolts must be torqued to 16 ft.-lbs. This applies to the M10 × 30mm hex bolts used on 2011 models to secure the front support bracket to the nut plate.
M12 bolts: 28 ft.-lbs. M10 bolts (2011 models only): 16 ft.-lbs. Tighten all hardware only after the sidebar is leveled and aligned.
The manual instructs you to 'level and align Sidebar properly' in step 7 before tightening all hardware, but does not provide specific leveling or alignment procedures. Contact Aries Automotive at 877.287.8634 or ARIESAUTOMOTIVE.COM for detailed guidance on proper alignment techniques.
Perform periodic inspections to ensure all hardware remains secure and tight. Wax the product after installation and regularly thereafter to add a protective layer over the finish. Do not use polish or wax containing abrasives, as these may damage the finish. For stainless steel, aluminum polish may be used to polish small scratches and scuffs; mild soap may be used to clean the product. For gloss black finishes, use mild soap only.

The manual rates the installation difficulty as 'Easy.' However, this assessment does not account for the special hand-tool requirement on 2010 and later models or the need for proper alignment and leveling before final tightening.
Remove all contents from the box and verify that all parts are present using the parts list. Read all instructions carefully before starting installation. Proper tools will improve the quality of installation and reduce the time required.
Yes. The factory body mount bolts are removed and then reused to secure the new mounting brackets to the vehicle. The installation procedure does not call for replacement bolts.
