These 3" nerf bars are constructed from strong carbon steel for superior rigidity, and they feature a sleek semi-gloss black powder coat finish. For an added edge, each nerf bar also goes through an E-coat process, before receiving its black powder coat, to strengthen and protect the final finish against peeling, chipping and scratching. ARIES 3" round side bars are also available in polished stainless steel or semi-gloss black powder-coated steel. All ARIES 3" nerf bars come with heavy-duty steel brackets and non-skid step pads. The mounting brackets are strong and custom-designed for specific makes and models to allow the side bars to contour to the lines of your vehicle. They offer easy installation and the strength necessary to provide sound footing. These particular custom nerf bars fit specific years of the Chevy Silverado 1500, 1500 HD, 2500 HD, 2500 HD Classic or 3500 HD and GMC Sierra 1500 HD, 2500 HD or 3500 HD (see application info to verify fitment). ARIES 3" round side bars also come with non-skid step pads made of tough poly propylene. These step pads feature a textured pattern for enhanced safety, and they cover a wide portion of the tubes for a more comfortable step.

Yes. The installation procedure requires you to remove the driver side body mounts from the underside of the vehicle and install the front driver side mounting bracket to the body mount location. The same process is repeated for the passenger side. All side bars manufactured for GM trucks use the factory body mount bolts to attach the bars and brackets.
Starting in late 2010, General Motors changed from a fixed welded nut to a loose nut surrounded by a cage nut with two tabs designed to prevent loosening. GM also applies heavy-duty Loc-tite to the body mount bolts. Impact tools can cause the bolts to seize and the cage nut tabs to bend, allowing the nut to spin freely inside the chassis floor. Always loosen and re-tighten body mount bolts by hand only. If bolts become increasingly tight, retighten and loosen them several times to clear the Loc-tite from the threads.
1. Remove and verify all parts from the box. 2. From the underside, remove the driver side body mounts and install the front driver mounting bracket, securing with M12 x 120mm bolts, lock washers, and flat washers—snug but do not tighten. 3. Slide the bolt tab into the frame rail ahead of the slotted hole and secure the brace bracket with a flat washer, lock washer, and hex nut—snug but do not tighten. 4. For 2011 models only, insert the nut plate through the oval hole and attach the front support bracket with an M10 x 30mm bolt, lock washer, and flat washer. 5. Fasten the driver sidebar to the front and brace brackets with M12 x 50mm bolts, lock washers, and flat washers—snug but do not tighten. 6. Install the rear of the sidebar to the rear mounting bracket with an M12 x 50mm bolt, lock washer, and flat washer—snug but do not tighten. 7. Level and align the sidebar, then tighten all hardware. 8. Repeat steps 2–7 for the passenger side.
Do not tighten bolts immediately. The manual instructs you to snug (hand-tighten) all hardware during the initial installation steps. Only after the sidebar has been levelled and aligned properly should you tighten all hardware fully. This allows for proper positioning before final torque is applied.
Locate the slotted hole on the frame rail just ahead of the front body mount. Slide the bolt tab into the frame from the underside and allow the bolt to drop through the round hole. Do not use the slotted hole. Secure the driver side brace bracket to the bolt tab with a 12mm flat washer, M12 lock washer, and M12 hex nut. Snug but do not tighten at this time.
Yes. For 2011 models only, there is an additional step: locate the two factory holes in the bottom of the frame towards the front of the vehicle. Insert one nut plate through the oval hole, orienting it towards the front round hole. Attach the driver side front support bracket to the nut plate by partially threading an M10 x 30mm hex head bolt, M10 lock washer, and 10mm flat washer. This step is shown in Diagram 2 on page 3. The standard installation steps apply to all models.
The torque specification for M12 bolts is 28 ft.-lbs. This applies to the M12 x 120mm hex head bolts used to secure the mounting brackets to the body mounts, and the M12 x 50mm hex bolts used to attach the sidebars to the mounting and brace brackets.

After installation, wax the product to protect it. Regular waxing is recommended to add a protective layer over the finish. Do not use any type of polish or wax that may contain abrasives, as these can damage the finish. For stainless steel finishes, aluminum polish may be used to polish small scratches and scuffs, and mild soap may be used to clean the product. For gloss black finishes, mild soap only should be used to clean the product. Perform periodic inspections to ensure all hardware remains secure and tight.
