The ARIES Jeep security cargo lid is the perfect line of defense for your items, whether you're out on the trail or just putting in another day at the office. This six-panel, aluminum enclosure works with the layout of the Jeep JK 4-door to turn the rear compartment into a large, fully lockable storage area. The simple, six-panel design bolts directly into the bed of the Jeep Wrangler, utilizing the existing space and layout. This allows for a convenient storage area that works independently of the rear door and is compatible with the hardtop off or on, as well as with a soft top or subwoofer. It features a key-operated, quarter-turn latch for quick, convenient access to the cargo area. Simply insert the key, turn the latch and lift the lid. The locking latch mechanism is made with durable metal components and is covered in a chrome finish for lasting rust resistance. Tie-down anchors and a weight capacity of 75 lbs. allow additional items to be stored on top of the Jeep security cargo lid. The tie-down anchors have a 1/2" diameter to accept various cargo straps or bungees. The lid can also be flipped up and converted into a usable surface, such as a table or workbench. The ARIES security cargo lid is made with hardened, T6 aluminum construction, making it strong, rust-free and lightweight. Do not fully tighten bolts during installation. Steps 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, and 10 all instruct to 'snug the hardware, but do not fully tighten.' Only after the cargo lid is aligned and all bolts are in place (Step 15) should you tighten all hardware.
In Step 5, locate the 50mm wide foam tape, fold it in half, and cut it. Remove the adhesive cover and apply it to the edge of the vehicle by the driver/left side rear door. Repeat on the passenger side. In Step 6, apply the 25mm wide foam tape along the vehicle edge continuing back to the rear door, cut off excess, and use a utility knife to mark three mounting points along the outer edge covered by the foam tape. Repeat on the passenger side.
In Step 8, place an M8 x 45mm cap head square neck bolt and M8 nut in the bottom part of the driver-side plate. The nut acts as a locking device. Screw in the bolt all the way and adjust as needed to make the plate level. Repeat on the passenger side. Once the support bolt is level, proceed to secure the plate with additional bolts in Step 9.
In Step 12, locate the rubber trim strip and slide it over the edge of the driver-side plate/insert plate, wrapping it around the vehicle post. Cut off excess rubber trim. Repeat on the passenger side. In Step 16, attach an additional rubber trim strip along the bottom edge of the side panels and center lid section to help seal the rear of the cargo lid.
In Step 13, after placing the hardtop in position, close the center section. Use a mallet to make any adjustments needed to close the center section properly.
In Step 13, place three M8 nut tabs per side under the lip where the soft top will be fastened down before reinstalling the top. These nut tabs provide mounting points for the soft top fasteners.
In Step 16, place the tie down brackets into position on the cargo and secure each bracket using two Phillips machine screws. Six tie down brackets are included in the package.
The torque specification for M8 bolts is 7 ft.-lbs. This applies to the M8 x 25mm, M8 x 35mm, and M8 x 45mm bolts used throughout the installation.
