ARIES 3" round side bars are a reliable and budget-friendly option for side steps on your truck. This set of nerf bars offers solid rust resistance, a custom fit and a no-drill installation. Constructed from stainless steel, these 3" side bars are perfect for work or play, easily withstanding dirt, water, mud, sand, snow and road salt and maintaining dependable corrosion resistance even offroad. They also come with a durable semi-gloss black powder coat finish that greater enhances rust resistance, and helps keep the nerf bars looking clean in spite of minor scuffs and scratches. 3" diameter, heavy-wall tubing is used to construct the steps, providing excellent strength and rigidity for safe, comfortable entry and exit. These 3" round nerf bars also feature non-skid step pads to further enhance safety. The step pads are textured to increase traction, and they are custom-placed to match the door layout for a convenient step up right where you need it. To ensure the best fit and appearance on your truck, every set of 3" side bars is made vehicle-specific. This means the steps are bent to a specific contour to complement the shape of the vehicle's rocker panels. It also makes for a much easier installation compared to any universal nerf bars or running boards. These particular 3" nerf bars are designed to fit specific years of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 (see application info to verify fitment). ARIES side bars use heavy-duty, vehicle-specific brackets that mount using pre-existing factory holes to completely eliminate drilling from the installation process. The ARIES 3" Round Black Stainless Side Bars, Select Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra 1500 Step Nerf Bar Kit (Part #BBDR214053) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The kit includes two 3" oval bent side bars (driver/left and passenger/right), four mounting brackets (front, center support ×2, and rear), four 1/2" hex bolts (1/2" × 2"), four 1/2" lock washers, six 1/2" flat washers, four larger 1/2" flat washers (1-1/2" OD × 1/8"), and two 8-1.25mm × 25mm combo bolts.
You will need a socket set, ratchet, and level. Assistance is recommended during installation.
No drilling is required. The side bars attach to existing factory body mount bolts and use the provided hardware.
Do not tighten hardware immediately. Snug the bolts at the front and rear attachment points, then attach the center support bracket. After leveling and adjusting the entire side bar, fully tighten all hardware.
The torque specification for 1/2" bolts is 28 ft-lbs. This applies to the four 1/2" × 2" hex bolts used at the front and rear attachment points.
The torque specification for M8 bolts is 7 ft-lbs. This applies to the two 8-1.25mm × 25mm combo bolts used at the center support bracket attachment.
If a cup washer is present at the factory body mount, you must use a 12mm washer between the cup washer and all mounting brackets before installing the ARIES side bars.
Wax the product after installation and regularly thereafter to add a protective layer. Use only mild automotive detergent to clean. Do not use polish or wax containing abrasives, dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, or wire brushes, as these will damage the finish.
The ARIES 214053 is a 3" oval bent side bar system consisting of two side bars (driver/left and passenger/right) with mounting brackets that attach to factory body mount points on a vehicle. It is rated as an Easy installation difficulty level.

Yes. You must remove the factory body bolts at the front, center, and rear mounting locations. These bolts are then reused to attach the mounting brackets. Inspect the factory body mount washer during removal; if a cup washer is present, a 12mm washer must be placed between the cup washer and all mounting brackets.
Assistance is recommended. The manual specifically states that assistance is recommended when lining up and attaching the side bar tubes to the mounting brackets.
Install the driver/left side first: (1) attach the front mounting bracket to the front body mount using the factory bolt and a washer, (2) attach the center support bracket to the center body mount, (3) attach the rear mounting bracket to the rear body mount, (4) attach the driver/left side bar to all three brackets using the provided hex bolts and combo bolt, snugging but not tightening, (5) level and adjust the side bar, then fully tighten all hardware. Repeat the entire sequence for the passenger/right side.
Line up the front end of the side bar tube with the front bracket slot. Use one 1/2" × 2" hex bolt, one 1/2" lock washer, and one 1/2" flat washer to attach the front end. Snug but do not fully tighten the hardware at this time; final tightening occurs after leveling the entire side bar.
Attach the center of the side bar to the center support bracket using one 8-1.25mm × 25mm combo bolt. Do not tighten the hardware at this time; final tightening occurs after leveling the entire side bar.
Attach the rear end of the side bar tube to the rear bracket using one 1/2" × 2" hex bolt, one 1/2" lock washer, and one 1/2" flat washer. Snug but do not fully tighten the hardware at this time; final tightening occurs after leveling the entire side bar.
Leveling ensures the side bar is properly aligned and positioned on the vehicle before all hardware is fully tightened. After snugging the bolts at the front, center, and rear attachment points, use a level to adjust the side bar as necessary, then fully tighten all hardware.
Perform periodic inspections to ensure all hardware is secure and tight. The manual recommends regular checks to maintain the integrity of the installation.
Polish may be used only on polished, gloss, and other smooth finishes to clear small scratches and scuffs. However, do not use any polish or wax containing abrasives, as these will damage the finish. Always test on a small area first.
Do not use dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, wire brushes, or any similar products that may damage the finish. Use only mild automotive detergent to clean the side bars.
