ARIES 3" round side bars are a reliable and budget-friendly option for side steps on your truck. This set of nerf bars offers solid rust resistance, a custom fit and a no-drill installation. Constructed from stainless steel, these 3" side bars are perfect for work or play, easily withstanding dirt, water, mud, sand, snow and road salt and maintaining dependable corrosion resistance even offroad. They also come with a durable semi-gloss black powder coat finish that greater enhances rust resistance, and helps keep the nerf bars looking clean in spite of minor scuffs and scratches. 3" diameter, heavy-wall tubing is used to construct the steps, providing excellent strength and rigidity for safe, comfortable entry and exit. These 3" round nerf bars also feature non-skid step pads to further enhance safety. The step pads are textured to increase traction, and they are custom-placed to match the door layout for a convenient step up right where you need it. To ensure the best fit and appearance on your truck, every set of 3" side bars is made vehicle-specific. This means the steps are bent to a specific contour to complement the shape of the vehicle's rocker panels. It also makes for a much easier installation compared to any universal nerf bars or running boards. These particular 3" nerf bars are designed to fit specific years of the Ram 1500, 2500 or 3500 and Dodge Ram 1500, Ram 2500 or Ram 3500 (see application info to verify fitment). ARIES side bars use heavy-duty, vehicle-specific brackets that mount using pre-existing factory holes to completely eliminate drilling from the installation process. The kit includes two side bars (driver and passenger), four mounting brackets (two front, two rear), and all required fasteners: M8, M10 and M12 hex bolts, flat washers, lock washers, hex nuts, bolt plates, nut plates, and plastic retainers. Yes. The 215041 can be installed on vehicles without factory threaded inserts, typically 2015 and older models. These vehicles require the use of M10 nut plates and M10 hex bolts at the bottom mounting positions instead of the factory inserts. See Step 3B for the driver side and Step 8 for the passenger side installation procedure.
The M8 bolt plate is a simple plate that holds an M8 bolt in place and is secured with an M8 hex nut. The M12 bolt/nut plate is a more complex fastening system that accommodates both M12 bolts and M10 nuts, depending on the vehicle model and mounting location. On vehicles with factory inserts, the M10 nut on the M12 bolt plate is not used. On older vehicles without factory inserts, the M10 nut is aligned with bottom holes in the rocker panel.
Remove the tape plugs from each mounting hole on the vehicle before inserting the bolt plates. This is done in Step 2 for the driver-side front mounting location.
1. Start on the driver side and locate the two mounting locations underneath the vehicle (Step 1). 2. Remove tape plugs and insert bolt plates with plastic retainers (Step 2). 3. Secure the driver-side front mounting bracket (Step 3A or 3B depending on vehicle year). 4. Install the driver-side rear bracket (Step 4). 5. Attach the driver-side bar to the brackets (Step 5). 6. Adjust and level the side bar (Step 6). 7. Repeat the process for the passenger side (Steps 7-9). Snug all hardware during installation but do not fully tighten until all brackets are in position.
No. The manual instructs you to snug the hardware but not fully tighten it during installation. It is recommended to tighten all brackets to the vehicle first, followed by the side bar connections, once the side bar is adjusted and leveled (Step 6).
Slide the plastic retainer over the thread of the bolt after inserting the bolt plate into the hole. This holds the bolt plate in place during installation. Plastic retainers are used for both M8 and M12 bolts.
The level is used in Step 6 to adjust and level the side bar once it is placed onto the brackets. This ensures the side bar is properly aligned and positioned before final tightening of all hardware.
M8 bolts should be torqued to 7 ft.-lbs. according to the Torque Specifications table on page 2.
M12 bolts have two torque specifications depending on the application: 16 ft.-lbs. or 28 ft.-lbs. The manual does not specify which torque value applies to which mounting location, so refer to the Torque Specifications table on page 2 and consult the manufacturer if clarification is needed.
Use mild automotive detergent to clean the product. Do not use dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, wire brushes or similar products that may damage the finish. Wax the product after installation and regularly thereafter to add a protective layer. For polished, gloss and other smooth finishes, polish may be used to clear small scratches and scuffs. Do not use any type of polish or wax that may contain abrasives that could damage the finish.
Periodic inspections should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight. The manual recommends regular waxing to protect the product finish. See the Notes and Maintenance section on page 1 for cleaning and care instructions.
Insert an M12 bolt/nut plate into the slot in the rocker panel and secure the M12 stud with a plastic retainer. Place the rear bracket in position and secure the top to the M12 stud with a flat washer, lock washer and nut. For the bottom: on 2015 and newer models with M8 factory inserts, use one M8 hex bolt, lock washer and flat washer. On 2015 and older models without M8 factory inserts, rotate the bolt plate to position the nut behind the lower mounting position and secure with an M10 hex bolt, flat washer and lock washer.
Place the side bar onto the brackets and align the mounting holes with the holes in the brackets on the vehicle. Attach the side bar using two M10 hex bolts, two M10 lock washers and two M10 flat washers. Snug the hardware but do not fully tighten until the side bar is adjusted and leveled.
The installation sequence is the same for both sides. The driver side is installed first (Steps 1-6), and the passenger side is installed second by repeating Steps 4 through 6 (Step 9). The hardware and fastening methods are identical; only the location on the vehicle differs.
The 215041 is designed for vehicles with factory threaded inserts (2015 and newer) and vehicles without factory inserts (2015 and older).
