These 3" nerf bars are constructed from strong carbon steel for superior rigidity, and they feature a sleek semi-gloss black powder coat finish. For an added edge, each nerf bar also goes through an E-coat process, before receiving its black powder coat, to strengthen and protect the final finish against peeling, chipping and scratching. ARIES 3" round side bars are also available in polished stainless steel or semi-gloss black powder-coated steel. All ARIES 3" nerf bars come with heavy-duty steel brackets and non-skid step pads. The mounting brackets are strong and custom-designed for specific makes and models to allow the side bars to contour to the lines of your vehicle. They offer easy installation and the strength necessary to provide sound footing. These particular custom nerf bars fit specific years of the Ram 1500, 2500 or 3500 and Dodge Ram 1500, 2500 or 3500 (see application info to verify fitment). ARIES 3" round side bars also come with non-skid step pads made of tough polypropylene. You will need: a torque wrench, 13mm socket, 16mm socket, 18mm socket, utility knife, and a level. These tools are required to properly secure the hardware and ensure the side bars are correctly aligned during installation.
The manual does not specify removal of any components. Installation begins by locating mounting locations underneath the vehicle and removing tape plugs from holes in the rocker panel and body panel. No other vehicle components are mentioned as requiring removal.
2015 and newer vehicles have factory threaded inserts. The front mounting bracket is secured directly to these inserts using M12 bolts and nuts. 2015 and older vehicles without factory inserts require M10 nut plates positioned behind the lower mounting holes in the rocker panel, secured with M10 hex bolts. Snugging means tightening the fasteners by hand until they are snug (firmly seated) but not fully torqued to specification. This is done in Steps 3A and 5 to hold components in position. After all brackets are snugged and the side bar is leveled, you then apply final torque specifications to all fasteners.

After placing the side bar onto the brackets and aligning the mounting holes, use a level to ensure the side bar is properly positioned. The manual recommends adjusting the side bar and leveling it before tightening all brackets to the vehicle, followed by the side bar connections.
Use mild automotive detergent to clean the product. Do not use dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, wire brushes, or similar products that may damage the finish. Wax the product after installation and regularly thereafter to add a protective layer. Do not use any wax or polish containing abrasives. For polished, gloss, and other smooth finishes, non-abrasive polish may be used to clear small scratches and scuffs.
Periodic inspections should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight. The manual does not specify the inspection interval. Refer to the Notes and Maintenance section for cleaning and protection guidance.
