For an added edge, e ach nerf bar also goes through an E-coat process, before receiving its black powder coat, to strengthen and protect the final finish against peeling, chipping and scratching. ARIES 3" round side bars are also available in polished stainless steel or semi-gloss black powder-coated steel. All ARIES 3" nerf bars come with heavy-duty steel brackets and non-skid step pads. The mounting brackets are strong and custom-designed for specific makes and models to allow the side bars to contour to the lines of your vehicle. They offer easy installation and the strength necessary to provide sound footing. These particular custom nerf bars fit specific years of the Chevy Silverado 1500, 1500 Classic, 2500 HD, 2500 HD Classic, 3500 Classic or 3500 HD and GMC Sierra 1500, 1500 Classic, 2500 HD, 2500 HD Classic, 3500 Classic or 3500 HD (see application info to verify fitment). ARIES 3" round side bars also come with non-skid step pads made of tough polypropylene. Part number 204048 is the ARIES 3" round side bars installation kit. It includes driver and passenger side bars, mounting brackets, and all required M8 and M10 hardware.
You will need: ratchet, 16mm socket, 16mm wrench, 13mm socket, and a level. The level is used to ensure the side bars are properly aligned during installation.
The kit includes: 1 driver side bar, 1 passenger side bar, 2 universal mounting brackets, 2 passenger front upper brackets, 2 passenger front lower brackets, 6 M8 clip nuts, 14 M8 x 25mm hex bolts, 14 M8 flat washers, 14 M8 lock washers, 2 M10 hex bolts, 2 M10 flat washers, and 2 M10 lock washers.
If your vehicle has a DEF tank, you will not be able to insert the M8 hardware on the front upper bracket on the passenger side. The manual notes this incompatibility but does not provide an alternative solution. Contact ARIES Automotive at 877.287.8634 for fitment guidance specific to your vehicle.
1. Install driver-side mounting brackets (front and rear) to the vehicle body, snugging hardware but not fully tightening. 2. Install driver-side bar to the brackets, snugging hardware. 3. Adjust and level the driver-side bar. 4. Tighten all driver-side bracket-to-vehicle hardware first, then tighten bar-to-bracket connections. 5. Repeat the process on the passenger side, noting that passenger front brackets use M10 hardware (torqued to 31.6 ft-lbs) rather than M8.
At the front driver-side mounting tab, locate the threaded hole on the inside of the body panel. Secure a mounting bracket with an M8 hex bolt, M8 lock washer, and M8 flat washer, snugging but not fully tightening. Rotate the bracket bottom to the side to expose the hole in the mounting tab, slide an M8 clip nut over the tab, rotate the bracket back, and finish securing with another M8 hex bolt, lock washer, and flat washer (snugged, not fully tightened). Repeat for the rear mounting bracket.
Place the upper mounting bracket against the rocker panel and align the weld nut with the mounting hole. Secure with an M8 hex bolt, M8 lock washer, and M8 flat washer. Align a passenger front lower bracket with the upper bracket and secure them together using an M10 hex bolt, M10 lock washer, and M10 flat washer. Torque all M10 hardware to 31.6 ft-lbs. Repeat for the second passenger mounting bracket. Snug all other hardware but do not fully tighten until after leveling.
After placing the side bar onto the mounting brackets and snugging all hardware, adjust and level the side bar. Then tighten all brackets to the vehicle first, followed by the side bar connections to the brackets. This sequence ensures proper alignment and prevents misalignment during final tightening.
M8 bolts should be torqued to 7 ft.-lbs., unless otherwise noted in the instructions.
M10 bolts should be torqued to 16 ft.-lbs. as the standard specification. However, the passenger-side front bracket M10 hardware is torqued to 31.6 ft-lbs, which is a specific exception noted in Step 7.
The manual specifies 31.6 ft-lbs for the M10 hardware connecting the passenger front upper and lower mounting brackets (Step 7) but does not explain the reason for this higher torque value. This may relate to the structural load at that connection point. Follow the specified 31.6 ft-lbs torque for those bolts.
