Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

Equip your vehicle for towing and hitch-mounted accessories with a dependable CURT 2" trailer hitch. Designed for a vehicle-specific fit, CURT receiver hitches provide a strong and secure connection point for towing trailers, carrying bikes, transporting cargo and using other compatible 2-inch hitch accessories.
Our selection of CURT 2-inch receiver hitches includes options for trucks, SUVs, crossovers, vans and passenger vehicles. Each hitch is engineered to match specific vehicle mounting points, helping provide a clean installation and dependable performance. Depending on the vehicle application, available options may include Class 3, Class 4 and heavy-duty receiver hitches with different gross trailer weight and tongue weight capacities.
A 2" x 2" receiver opening is one of the most common hitch sizes and works with a wide range of towing accessories, including ball mounts, bike racks, cargo carriers, hitch steps and tow hooks. When towing a trailer, you may also need a properly rated trailer ball, hitch pin, wiring harness, brake controller or weight distribution system.
CURT trailer hitches feature a durable black finish designed to help protect against rust, scratches and exposure to road conditions. Many models install using existing holes in the vehicle frame, although drilling, trimming or temporary removal of vehicle components may be required for certain applications.
Use our vehicle fitment tools to find the correct CURT 2" trailer hitch for your year, make and model. Always compare the hitch rating with your vehicle’s towing capacity and the ratings of every component in your towing setup. The maximum towing capacity is determined by the lowest-rated component.
Shop CURT 2-inch trailer hitches at TowUniverse for vehicle-specific fitment, trusted towing performance and access to the accessories needed to complete your towing setup.

The 1/2" carriage bolts (Grade 8) must be tightened to 119 foot-pounds. This applies to the six 1/2"-13 x 1-1/2" carriage bolts used to mount the hitch to the frame.
The 5/16" carriage bolts (Grade 5) must be tightened to 19 foot-pounds. This applies to the two 5/16"-18 x 1-3/4" carriage bolts used on non-L models in the bottom rear frame holes.
Yes. In step 13, L models use the set of holes farthest from the hitch cross bar, while non-L models use the set of holes nearest to the hitch cross bar. Additionally, in step 15, only non-L models use the 5/16" carriage bolt in the bottom rear frame hole. L models do not use this bolt.
The manual notes that handling of cosmetic parts may require the use of protective covers, rags, and specialty tools to prevent damage. Place all removed components on a flat, sturdy surface during installation.
The hardware kit (part 63-5055) includes: two 5/16"-18 x 1-3/4" carriage bolts (Grade 5), six 1/2"-13 x 1-1/2" carriage bolts (Grade 8, YZP), two 1/4"-20 x 1/2" hex head thread forming screws, two 5/16"-18 whiz flange lock nuts (ZP), six 1/2"-13 hex large flange whiz lock nuts (ZP), and four 1/2" x 48" bolt leaders. The kit also includes the installation manual.
Before each towing trip, complete a visual inspection of the hitch and verify that all bolted connections are at the correct torque specification. Check for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Ensure all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly. Do not tow if the hitch is damaged or missing parts.
If the receiver hitch is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the hitch if it is damaged or missing parts.
No. Do not alter this product in any way. Modifying the product could change its integrity and lead to a loss of connection between the towed item and the tow vehicle. Modifying the hitch will void the manufacturer's warranty.
Check that all bolted connections are at the correct torque specification on a regular basis. It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip.

If the rear of your vehicle looks different than shown in the manual, contact Blue Ox customer service at (402) 385-3051 before proceeding with installation.
No. Even though bolts may already be present on the vehicle, do not assume they are adequate for receiver hitch mounting. Always use the hardware supplied in the hardware kit and existing hardware as specified in the installation instructions.
If a bolt is lost or needs replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade. Most bolts in this installation are Grade 8; refer to the parts list to confirm the correct grade for the specific bolt. Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox Dealer or Distributor. Using the wrong grade bolt could compromise safety and void the warranty.
For non-L models, tighten all bolts in step 15 after starting all bolts. For L models, the manual does not specify when to tighten bolts, but standard practice would be to tighten after all bolts are started. The 5/16" bolts should be tightened to 19 foot-pounds and the 1/2" bolts to 119 foot-pounds.
After the hitch is mounted and bolts are tightened, raise the exhaust and reinstall the exhaust brackets. Then reinstall the rear fascia and tail lights. Finally, reconnect all electrical connections.

The manual notes that dimensional variations between otherwise identical vehicles can be considerable. While the receiver hitch was designed for easy installation, it may be necessary to tailor the hitch slightly to compensate for vehicle manufacturer's tolerances. If alignment issues occur, contact Blue Ox customer service at (402) 385-3051 for assistance.
