The BXH3007 is a weight-carrying hitch with a maximum gross trailer weight (GTW) of 4000 lb (1814 kg) and maximum tongue weight (TW) of 600 lb (272 kg). However, you must verify your vehicle's towing capacity in your owner's manual and use whichever is less. Do not exceed your vehicle's towing rating, as doing so will void the manufacturer's warranty.
Yes, the BXH3007 is designed for both Trailhawk and Non-Trailhawk models of the 2017.5-2025 Jeep Compass. However, the installation procedure differs between the two versions. Trailhawk models require removal and reinstallation of a rear plastic piece and removal of a front center support bracket, while Non-Trailhawk models do not. The kit includes: 6 existing M14 x 2MM x 45MM bolts (reused from vehicle), 1 receiver hitch (2"), 1 bolt bag and manual package, 4 plates (1/4" x 1" x 3" with 1/2" carriage bolt square hole), 4 spacer sheets (7GA x 1-1/4" x 1-1/2" with 5/8" hole), 2 plates (1/4" x 1" x 2-3/8" with 1/2" square hole), 2 hex head bolts (8MM-1.25 x 40MM, Grade 8.8), 6 carriage bolts (1/2"-13 x 2", Grade 8), 6 whiz flange nuts (1/2"-13, Grade 8), 2 conical washers (3/8"), 2 plastic rivets (6.3MM), and 6 bolt leaders (1/2" x 48"). Yes. The exhaust must be lowered for receiver hitch installation on all 2017.5-2025 Jeep Compass models, both Trailhawk and Non-Trailhawk. The exhaust is supported using a jack or stand during removal of exhaust bracket bolts and is then reinstalled after the hitch is positioned.
Yes. A 3/16" drill bit is required to drill out two pop rivets from the bottom of the rear fascia on Trailhawk models (Step 8). On Non-Trailhawk models, a die grinder is used to expand existing frame holes to 1-1/8" to create access holes for receiver hitch hardware (Step 11). These are permanent modifications to the vehicle.
Yes. A reciprocating saw is used to remove marked areas from the rear fascia and plastic piece. On Non-Trailhawk models, measure 4-1/2" from each end of the rear fascia and remove the marked area from each side (Step 5). A 3-1/2" x 2-5/8" rectangle is cut from the center of the rear fascia (Non-Trailhawk, Step 15) or plastic piece (Trailhawk, Step 14b). On Non-Trailhawk models, triangle points are removed from the exhaust bracket (Step 20a). On Trailhawk models, tabs on the exhaust bracket are either bent down or removed with a reciprocating saw (Step 20b). These are permanent modifications.
Yes. Use a good quality paint to spray cut edges of the frame to prevent rusting. This is noted in the Notice section as an important maintenance step after cutting.
Tighten 1/2" bolts to 119 ft/lbs. This applies to the side bolts and bottom rear bolt on Non-Trailhawk models (Step 19).
Tighten M14 bolts to 117 ft/lbs. These are the existing frame bolts used on Trailhawk models (Step 19).
Tighten 8MM bolts to 16 ft/lbs. These bolts are used when reinstalling the exhaust bracket with the conical washer (Step 21).
Torque values for Grade 8.8 metric bolts are: 6MM = 6 ft/lbs, 8MM = 16 ft/lbs, 10MM = 31 ft/lbs, 12MM = 54 ft/lbs, 14MM = 89 ft/lbs, 16MM = 161 ft/lbs, 18MM = 222 ft/lbs.
Torque values for Grade 8 inch bolts are: 1/4" = 14 ft/lbs, 5/16" = 29 ft/lbs, 3/8" = 47 ft/lbs, 7/16" = 78 ft/lbs, 1/2" = 119 ft/lbs, 5/8" = 230 ft/lbs, 3/4" = 380 ft/lbs.
Tighten side bolts first, alternating between the driver side and passenger side. Once side bolts are tightened, tighten the bottom rear bolt on each side of the vehicle. When tightening side bolts, ensure the bottom forward hole does not shift to cover the bolt hole. Use the torque specifications: 1/2" bolts to 119 ft/lbs (Non-Trailhawk) or M14 bolts to 117 ft/lbs (Trailhawk), and 8MM exhaust bolts to 16 ft/lbs.
The receiver hitch must be raised into place so that it sits between the rear fascia and the brackets that hold the rear fascia in place. On Non-Trailhawk models, lead wires are removed and whiz flange nuts are loosely installed before final tightening. On Trailhawk models, existing bolts are loosely installed into the two side holes. The rear tow hook may need adjustment to get holes to line up.
Spacer plates are used to create proper spacing and alignment during hitch installation. On Non-Trailhawk models, spacer plates are placed onto lead wires and attached to carriage bolts, then pulled through the frame to position the bolts correctly. The spacer plate must sit flush against the inner frame. On Trailhawk models, spacer plates are centered over the side holes on the inside of the hitch and taped in place.
The conical washer is used when reinstalling the exhaust bracket. The teeth of the conical washer must be oriented towards the hitch. The washer is used with the 8MM bolt, which is tightened to 16 ft/lbs.
If the receiver hitch is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the hitch if it is damaged or missing parts.
When using power drills, be aware of the dangers of torque and drill bit length. When using a reciprocating saw, be aware of objects behind the cutting surface. These tools are necessary for drilling pop rivets, expanding frame holes, and cutting the rear fascia.
Before each towing trip, inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Tighten all bolts to the recommended torque specifications. This is the owner's responsibility.
After installation, ensure that all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly. Verify that all bolted connections are at the correct torque specification. Complete a visual inspection before towing each time. Check that the hitch is not in contact with electrical wires or hoses, as improper installation against these could cause fluid leaks or electrical shorts.
Check that all bolted connections are at the correct torque specification on a regular basis. The owner's responsibility includes inspecting all towing equipment for loose bolts before each towing trip and tightening them to the recommended specifications.
Place all components that are removed on a flat, sturdy surface. All items will be reinstalled unless otherwise noted after the receiver hitch is installed. Items that are reinstalled include the heat shield, exhaust bracket, front center support bracket (Trailhawk only), rear plastic piece (Trailhawk only), and rear fascia.

Make sure the accessory does not exceed the hitch’s tongue weight rating, the vehicle’s limits or the accessory manufacturer’s capacity. Account for the combined weight of the carrier and everything loaded onto it.
