Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.

Yes. The front bumper must be removed to access the frame. The bumper is secured by four T50 Torx bolts—two on the bottom and two on the top.
Remove the plastic center grill, plastic molding surrounding the headlights, fog lights (if equipped), and the two plastic pieces from each end of the metal bumper. The lower plastic spoiler must also be removed and later trimmed to allow for the attachment tabs.
Yes. The vacuum ball fastened to the passenger side of the bumper must be removed during disassembly and replaced after the baseplate is installed.
Remove the rivets fastening the lower plastic spoiler to the bumper. After baseplate installation, hold the spoiler up to its original position, mark where it needs to be trimmed to allow for the attachment tabs, trim it, and replace it using the plastic rivets supplied in the bolt bag.
If your vehicle has a skid plate, it must be removed for baseplate installation. After installation, it can be reinstalled with careful trimming or left off the vehicle. If your vehicle has a rubber rock guard, fold it out of the way during installation.

The BX1110 includes: one baseplate weldment (61-4991), 14 × 7/16" flat washers, 6 × 7/16"-14 × 1½" hex bolts (Grade 5), 2 × flat plates (for models prior to and including 1999), 8 × 7/16" lock washers, 6 × 7/16" hex nuts, 2 × 7/16" wire nuts, 3 × pine tree clips, driver and passenger side tow hook brackets, 2 × 36" baseplate safety cables (Class III), and 4 × 3/8" quicklinks. Existing bolts are reused where specified.
No. The 2 × 4-inch mount plates (Item 4) are to be used on models prior to and including 1999. They are placed inside the frame when replacing the front two bolts of the brackets.
The baseplate sidemounts (Item 1) are placed between the black brackets and the frame. Use 7/16" bolts, nuts, and washers with the two 4-inch mount plates (for models prior to and including 1999) to replace the front two bolts of the brackets. The 4-inch plates are placed inside the frame. The back bolts are reused. Use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten.
If there is a gap between the frame and the brace, use the extra 7/16" flat washers as spacers.
After drilling the frame holes and installing the horizontal braces, bolt the tow hooks back into place and install the new tow hook brackets (driver side 61-5553, passenger side 61-5554) using 7/16" hardware. Use Loctite Red on all bolts. The new tow hook brackets may not work for models older than 1997.
The manual does not provide a specific torque specification. It instructs to use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten them. Contact Blue Ox or your installer for the recommended torque value.
The front bumper is secured by four T50 Torx bolts—two on the bottom and two on the top.
A 7mm socket is required to remove the bolts fastening the plastic molding to the fenders and the bolts from the front of the moldings.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. The BX1110 includes 2 × 36" baseplate safety cables (Class III). These cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame and must not be mounted against wires, hoses, or brake lines. Permanent baseplate safety cables are to be used in conjunction with, and NOT a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Watch for oil cooler and air conditioner lines, electrical wires and hoses, and missing parts or attaching points on the frame. If the baseplate is improperly installed and is against a wire or hose, it could cause fluid leaks or electrical shorts some time after the actual baseplate installation. Do not mount the permanent baseplate safety cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines.
It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Be sure to use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications.
