Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.

Yes. You must drill the top holes of the baseplate through the frame using a 17/32" drill bit. This is done on both sides of the vehicle. Additionally, on 2007-09 models, the lower frame extension must be cut flush with the outside edge of the lower side bracket using a reciprocating saw on both sides.

Yes. The belly pan must be removed at the start of installation and reinstalled at the end. During reinstallation, you must mark and trim a slot for the baseplate endplate to come through using a utility knife on both sides of the vehicle. The belly pan is then slid between the baseplate crosstube and lower frame suspension.
1. Remove four push pins from belly pan bottom and two from tabs on back. 2. Disconnect foglights and remove bolts from bumper frame edges (18MM socket, both sides). 3. Pull bumper forward and disconnect three wiring loom clips. 4. On 2007-09 models only: cut lower frame extension with reciprocating saw. 5. Align baseplate lower hole with existing frame hole (lower hole on 2007-09, middle hole on 2010+) and clamp with vise grips. 6. Install 5/8"-11 bolts with lock washers and tighten to whiz nuts. 7. Drill top holes with 17/32" bit, install spacer plates and 1/2"-13 bolts with lock washers. 8. Reinstall bumper and wiring loom, reconnect foglights. 9. Attach permanent baseplate safety cables. 10. Trim belly pan slot and reinstall.
Yes. The bumper must be removed and reinstalled during installation. First, disconnect the foglights from the back side of the bumper. Using an 18MM socket, remove two bolts on the outside edge of the frame on both sides, then two bolts on the inside edge on both sides. Pull the bumper forward and disconnect three clips attaching the wiring loom. After baseplate installation, reinstall the bumper and wiring loom and reconnect the foglights.
Yes. The belly pan must be removed at the start of installation. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove four push pins from the bottom (two on each side) and two push pins from tabs on the back. Set it aside. After the baseplate is installed, the belly pan is reinstalled with a trimmed slot to allow the baseplate endplate to come through.

Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. The cables prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose if the connection between the frame and baseplate fails. The BX1126 includes two Class III Safety Cables (part 226-0046) and two 3/8" Quicklinks (part 229-0359). Cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member and must not rub against wires, hoses, or brake lines. These cables are in addition to, not a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
