Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. Motorhome mount tow bars are recommended for use with the BX1692. The RangeFinder II and Ambassador tow bars cannot be used due to the design of the removable tabs. Adapters cannot be used with this baseplate, except the BX8833 and BX88151.

Required tools are: 7MM socket, 13MM socket, 9/16" socket or wrench, large vise grip, drill, utility knife, and 13/32" drill bit. Loctite RED is also required for all bolts.

The front fascia and metal bumper must be removed for baseplate installation. The fascia is removed by taking out bolts near the headlight housing, bolts and push pins forward of the front tires, and push pins on the underside. The metal bumper is removed by taking out three metric bolts on each side using a 13MM socket.
Yes, drilling is required. You will drill two holes underneath the vehicle on each side using a 13/32" drill bit, and two front holes in the end plates on each side with the same 13/32" drill bit. When drilling the front holes, place something between the drill and the radiator and drill the back hole at an angle to prevent drilling into the radiator.
Yes, trimming is required. On the back side of the fascia, use a utility knife to trim 3/4"-1" from the outside edge of the opening to allow the attachment tabs to come through. Some models may not require cutting, so try to put the fascia on and check if trimming is necessary.
Yes, you must drill into the bottom of the bumper, centered between the electrical plug and the convenient link, to install the breakaway bracket.
For 3/8"-16 Grade 5 bolts, the torque specification is 33 foot-pounds. All bolts must have Loctite RED applied before tightening.

Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. Their principal function is to prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose in the event the connection between the frame and baseplate fails or becomes disconnected. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member. Each cable must have an adequate weight rating for the towing system. The two cables together must meet the weight rating requirement. Do not mount the cables against wires, hoses or brake lines.
Attach the permanent baseplate safety cables to the provided convenience link (quicklink) on the baseplate. The recommended installation is to secure the cables to the frame of the vehicle. If additional options interfere with suggested mounting, secure the cables to a solid piece of the frame as described in the instructions included with the permanent baseplate safety cables. Be sure the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Do this on both sides of the vehicle.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
Be sure that all electrical connections are plugged in properly and functioning before installing the fascia.
It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts and loose bolts before each towing trip. Be sure to use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications. Permanent baseplate safety cables should remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed on the vehicle. Remove the attachment tabs when not in use if applicable.

No. Use only genuine factory replacement parts on your baseplate. Do not substitute homemade or non-typical parts. If a bolt is lost or needs replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade (in most cases Grade 5). Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox Dealer or Distributor. Failing to follow these instructions or altering them will void the manufacturer's warranty.
Failure to read and follow these instructions could result in separation of the towed vehicle from the tow bar, causing property damage, loss of towed vehicle, personal injury or death. Failing to follow and/or altering these installation instructions in either installation or required equipment will void the manufacturer's warranty.
From the bottom of the vehicle, slide the baseplate up inside the frame rail until the bottom end plates are flush with the bottom of the frame rail. Center and clamp the baseplate. If needed, tap the proper plate in behind the baseplate on each side.
Insert the nut plates from the top of the frame rail. Install the 3/8-16 x 1 1/2" hex bolts and 3/8" lock washers. Cut the excess wire from the nut plates once they are installed. This is done on both sides of the vehicle. There are two sets of nut plates: three installed just behind the bumper bracket (Step 7) and three installed in the top of the frame rail (Step 9).
Drill into the bottom of the bumper, centered between the electrical plug and the convenient link. Attach the bracket to the bumper with a 1/4-20 x 3/4" bolt and 1/4-20 nut. Fasten the breakaway to the bottom of the bracket also with a 1/4-20 x 3/4" bolt and 1/4-20 nut.
After all baseplate components are installed, reinstall the front metal bumper by replacing the three metric bolts on each side using a 13MM socket. Then reinstall the front fascia according to the removal steps. Install the tow bar and safety cables according to the tow bar instructions. Do not substitute other devices if the tow bar pins and clips are misplaced.
No. Permanent baseplate safety cables are to be used in conjunction with, and NOT a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Watch for oil cooler and air conditioner lines, electrical wires and hoses, and missing parts or attaching points on the frame. If the baseplate is improperly installed against a wire or hose, it could cause fluid leaks or electrical shorts some time after the actual baseplate installation. Be sure the permanent baseplate safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts.
