Yes, trimming and cutting are required. You must use a utility knife to remove marked areas on both sides of the vehicle to allow the baseplate to fit through the hole in the fascia (Step 9). You must also use a reciprocating saw to remove marked areas on both sides of the fascia towards the inside near the license plate (Step 12). The manual recommends using a good quality paint to spray cut edges of the frame to prevent rusting.
Follow this sequence: (1) Unplug the connector underneath the vehicle behind the fascia that disconnects everything with the bumper. (2) Remove two 15MM bolts behind the bumper on the frame by the headlights on both sides. (3) Remove two clips from each side above the tow hook. (4) Remove four 18MM bolts indicated on both sides. (5) Pull the plug through the backside of the fascia on the passenger side and let it hang. (6) Pull the bumper forward and set aside. (7) Remove four 18MM bolts from the bottom of the tow hooks on both sides. (8) Remove two 18MM bolts from each side of the bracket near the tow hook on both sides.
Slide the baseplate on and align with the existing front tow hook holes. Bolt on first using two 5/8" x 1-3/4" bolts with lock washers. Then use three 1-3/4" bolts to attach the baseplate towards the outside of the frame: use a flat washer on the outside and nylock nut on the inside for the front two bolts (indicated with white arrows) and a flat washer and nylock nut on the inside for the third bolt (indicated with a gray arrow). Towards the inside of the frame, use two 1-3/4" bolts with washer on the outside and nylock nut on the inside. Do this on both sides of the vehicle. Use Loctite Red on all bolt threads and tighten all bolts to the appropriate torque.
Torque specifications for Grade 5 bolts are: 1/4" = 10 ft-lbs, 5/16" = 19 ft-lbs, 3/8" = 33 ft-lbs, 7/16" = 54 ft-lbs, 1/2" = 78 ft-lbs, 5/8" = 154 ft-lbs, 3/4" = 257 ft-lbs. The BX2670 kit includes Grade 5 bolts. Always use Loctite Red on all bolt threads before tightening.
