Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.

The BX1511 is a Blue Ox baseplate designed specifically for the 2005 Buick LeSabre. It is a towing accessory that attaches to the vehicle's frame to enable towing with a tow bar. The baseplate features removable attachment tabs with dimensions of 12 3/4" height and 24 1/2" width.
The RangeFinderII and Ambassador tow bars cannot be used with the BX1511 due to the design of the removable tabs. Most adapters are also incompatible; only the BX8833 and BX88151 adapters can be used with this baseplate.
The BX8848 4-Diode Wiring Kit is recommended for this vehicle.
Required tools include: 10mm socket, 13mm socket, 3/4" socket, 9/16" socket, 13/32" drill bit, vise grips, utility knife, and reciprocating saw. Loctite RED is also required for all bolts.

The following components must be removed for installation: bellypan, fascia, metal bumper, cable clamp, and bumper bracket nut. The bumper bracket nut and bumper bracket bolt will not be reinstalled after installation.
Yes, drilling is required. During installation, you must use a 13/32" drill bit to drill into the frame on the upper portion of the baseplate. The endplate is used as a template to mark the drill locations. Trimming is also required to the bumper bracket and frame rail using a reciprocating saw, and to the fascia styrofoam using a utility knife.
A rectangle is marked on the lower portion of the bumper bracket, starting horizontally below the upper portion and continuing just past the lower bolt hole, then marked straight down to the bottom of the frame rail. This marked area is cut through the bumper bracket and frame rail using a reciprocating saw. Additionally, the lower metric bolt from the bumper bracket is removed and will not be reinstalled.
With the fascia lying face down on a soft, flat surface, mark a 1" x 1" rectangle on the styrofoam, positioned 2 7/8" from the side edge. Pull the styrofoam from the fascia and cut the rectangle 2" deep using a utility knife. Then cut away the molding next to the rectangle so it is flush with the styrofoam base. This is done to both ends of the styrofoam before reinstalling it into the fascia.
Torque specifications for Grade 5 bolts are: 1/4" = 10 ft-lbs, 5/16" = 19 ft-lbs, 3/8" = 33 ft-lbs, 7/16" = 54 ft-lbs, 1/2" = 78 ft-lbs, 5/8" = 154 ft-lbs. Most bolts in this installation are Grade 5.
Torque specifications for Grade 8 bolts are: 1/4" = 14 ft-lbs, 5/16" = 29 ft-lbs, 3/8" = 47 ft-lbs, 7/16" = 78 ft-lbs, 1/2" = 119 ft-lbs, 5/8" = 230 ft-lbs.
Torque specifications for metric Grade 8.8 bolts are: 6MM = 6 ft-lbs, 8MM = 16 ft-lbs, 10MM = 31 ft-lbs, 12MM = 54 ft-lbs, 14MM = 89 ft-lbs.
Torque specifications for metric Grade 10.9 bolts are: 6MM = 8 ft-lbs, 8MM = 22 ft-lbs, 10MM = 40 ft-lbs, 12MM = 70 ft-lbs, 14MM = 117 ft-lbs.
The attachment tab height is 12 3/4" and the attachment tab width is 24 1/2".
The removal sequence is: (1) Remove five pushpins on top of fascia above grille, (2) Remove five pushpins on edge of fascia forward of front tire on both sides, (3) Remove one metric bolt and loosen hex nut forward of front tire in fender well on both sides, (4) Remove nine pushpins along bottom edge of fascia, (5) Remove three pushpins near back of belly pan and two near center, then remove bellypan, (6) Remove one Christmas tree pushpin on lower fascia opening on both sides and pull fascia forward, (7) Remove four metric bolts from metal bumper openings on both sides and pull bumper forward, (8) Disconnect cable clamp by pulling it forward through frame on both sides.
On the upper section of the bumper bracket, remove the nut using a 16mm socket, pull the nut plate through the side of the bumper bracket, and replace the nut with a 3/8-16 x 1 hex bolt and 3/8-16 hex flange whiz lock nut. On the lower section, remove the metric bolt using a 16mm socket; this bolt will not be reinstalled. Do this to both sides of the vehicle.
Reinstall the metal bumper and align the endplate with the existing frame rail hole. The endplate should be 1/4" below and parallel to the bumper and also parallel with the top of the frame rail. Insert a 1/2-13 nut plate through the frame rail opening and align it to the existing frame rail hole. Insert a 1/2-13 x 2 1/2" bolt and 1/2" lock washer and hand tighten to the nut plate (do not use Loctite yet). Do this to both sides of the vehicle.
Ensure the crosstube is level. On the lower portion of the endplate, in the forward most hole, insert a 1/2-13 x 1 1/4" bolt and 1/2" lock washer and hand tighten. In the hole next to it, insert a 1/2-13 x 1 1/4" bolt, 1/2" lock washer, and 1/2-13 hex nut and hand tighten. Do this to both sides of the vehicle.
Use the endplate as a template and drill into the frame using a 13/32" drill bit. Insert a 3/8-16 nut plate through the frame rail opening and align it to the drilled holes. Insert a 3/8-16 x 1 1/2" bolt and 3/8" lock washer and tighten. Trim the nut plate wires. Do this to both sides of the vehicle.
Reinstall the bellypan, fascia, cable clamp, pushpins, and bolts. Install the tow bar and safety cables according to the instructions provided in their packages. Attach the permanent baseplate safety cables to the provided convenience link on the baseplate and secure to a solid piece of the vehicle's frame. If the vehicle has additional options that interfere with mounting the permanent baseplate safety cables, secure the cable to a solid piece of the vehicle's frame as described in the instructions included with the permanent baseplate safety cables.
Failure to read and follow the installation instructions could result in separation of the towed vehicle from the tow bar, causing property damage, loss of towed vehicle, personal injury, or death. All electrical connections must be plugged in properly and functioning before installing the fascia.
Permanent baseplate safety cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. Do not mount the permanent baseplate safety cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines. These cables should remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed on the vehicle. They are to be used in conjunction with, and NOT as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Be sure to use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications.

Do not assume that existing bolts are adequate for baseplate mounting. Always use hardware supplied in the hardware kit or existing hardware specified in the Baseplate Installation Instructions. If a bolt is lost or needs replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade (in most cases Grade 5). Do not substitute homemade or non-typical parts.
