Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

The BlueOx Tow Bar Base Plate, Front Mount, RV Flat Towing for Select, JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE (R) (Part #FDRWBX1113) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, the BX1113 is designed for all 1993-1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee models. However, you will also need a BX88133 when using a Blue Ox car-mounted tow bar with this baseplate.
The BX88133 is required when using a Blue Ox car-mounted tow bar with the BX1113 baseplate. The manual does not provide further details about this component, so contact Blue Ox or your installer for specifications and availability.
No. The tow hooks must be removed permanently before installing the BX1113 baseplate.
You will need: 16MM wrench, 18MM wrench, 17MM wrench, 9/16" wrench, 3/4" wrench, flathead screwdriver, and Loctite.
The kit includes: 1 baseplate (61-5261), driver and passenger side frame mounts (61-5257, 61-5258), 2 panel braces (102-5583), 3/8" and 1/2" bolts, lock washers, flat washers, hex nuts, 2 removable attachment tabs (62-3468), 6 pine tree clips (290-0331), 2 safety cables 36" Class III (226-0046), 2 quicklinks 3/8" (229-0359), and 2 receiver cap plugs (290-0437). See the parts list on page 2 for complete quantities and part numbers.
The manual does not specify whether battery disconnection is required. Consult your vehicle's service manual or a qualified installer before beginning work.
Locate and remove the two bolts securing the radiator cross member to the frame on each side of the vehicle. Also remove the plastic splash guard retainer located 1 1/2" behind the rear cross member bolt to expose a frame weldnut.
Insert each frame mount (Items 2 and 3) through the lower outside grill openings of the bumper molding and place over the bolt holes. Bolt the frame mounts to the frame using the 10mm x 1.5 x 40mm bolts and washers provided (Items 12, 13, and 14). Use Loctite to ensure the bolts do not loosen. Do not tighten the bolts at this stage.
Remove the lower plastic push pins on the lower bumper molding. Pull back on the bottom of the bumper molding and insert the main weldment (Item 1) up into the space between the bumper molding and the radiator. Line up the holes of the main weldment to the face of the frame mount plates. Use the 1/2 inch hardware (Items 8, 9, 16, and 11) as shown in the drawing on page 2.
The dimensional variations between otherwise identical cars can be considerable. While the baseplate holes were designed for easy installation, it may be necessary to file a hole slightly to achieve proper alignment.
The small braces of the main weldment (Item 1) extend back to existing holes in the cross member below the radiator. Use the 3/8 inch hardware (Items 5, 6, and 7) provided. Tighten all bolts according to the torque chart in the General Instruction Sheet and use Loctite to ensure the bolts do not loosen.
Bolt the extension braces (Item 4) to the back of the radiator cross member using the existing bolt in the cross member. Bolt the loose end of the flat support to the tab using a 3/8 x 1 1/2 bolt, washers, and nut provided (Items 5, 6, 10, and 7).
Replace the bumper molding push pins. Then install the tow bar and safety cables according to the instructions included in their packages. Do not substitute other devices if the tow bar pin and clip are lost.
No drilling is required. The BX1113 uses existing holes in the vehicle's frame and cross member. However, you may need to file a hole slightly if dimensional variations between vehicles prevent perfect alignment.
The manual states that all bolts should be tightened according to the torque chart in the General Instruction Sheet, which is not included in this document. Contact Blue Ox or your installer for the specific torque values for each bolt size.
The frame mounts are secured using 10mm x 1.5 x 40mm hex bolts, Grade 8.8 (part number 201-0410), along with 10mm lock washers (203-0104) and 10mm flat washers (203-0103). Six bolts total are provided.
The main weldment is secured using 1/2-13 x 1 1/2 hex bolts, Grade 5 (part number 201-0051), along with 1/2 lock washers (203-0012), 1/2 flat washers (203-0005), and 1/2 hex nuts (202-0072). Four bolts total are provided.
The small braces use 3/8 hex bolts with wire, Grade 5 (part number 61-5285), along with 3/8 lock washers (203-0010) and 3/8 hex nuts (202-0071). Two bolts total are provided.
The extension braces use 3/8-16 x 1 1/2 hex bolts, Grade 5 (part number 201-0440), along with 3/8 flat washers (203-0003) and 3/8 hex nuts (202-0071). Two bolts total are provided.
To install: push the connector all the way in through the bumper mount with the release pin housing up, then rotate the connector until the locking pin engages. To remove: pull on the ring to release the lock pin, rotate the connector, and pull it straight ahead. Be sure to rotate the connectors so the pin assemblies point up.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with the BX1113 baseplate. They prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose if the connection between the frame and baseplate fails. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member and must not be mounted against wires, hoses, or brake lines. These cables are in addition to, not a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Before each towing trip, inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Ensure all bolts are tightened to the recommended specifications using Loctite Red.
Watch for oil cooler and air conditioner lines, electrical wires and hoses, and missing parts or attaching points on the frame. If the baseplate is improperly installed and contacts a wire or hose, it could cause fluid leaks or electrical shorts some time after installation.
Yes. Remove the attachment tabs when not in use, if applicable.

16MM, 18MM, 17MM, 9/16", and 3/4" wrenches, flathead screwdriver, and Loctite.
No. Frame mount bolts (step 3) are installed with Loctite but not tightened initially. All bolts are tightened together after the main weldment is installed (step 5), according to the torque chart in the General Instruction Sheet.
Strongly recommended. They prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose if the baseplate connection fails. They must not contact wires, hoses, or brake lines and are in addition to legally required safety cables.
Inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Tighten all bolts to recommended specifications using Loctite Red.
