Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. The BX1990 kit includes 2 36" Class III baseplate safety cables (226-0046). These cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame and must remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed. The cables must be used in conjunction with, and NOT as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Attach the permanent baseplate safety cables to the provided convenience link on the baseplate. On the passenger side, the quick link must be on the outside of the frame because there is not enough room with the hose on the inside. The cables should be secured to a solid piece of the frame. Be sure the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Do not mount the cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines. The manual notes that additional options may interfere with suggested mounting; in such cases, secure the cables to a solid piece of the frame as described in the instructions included with the permanent baseplate safety cables.

The removal sequence is: 1) Remove bolt next to antenna with T30 Torx (both sides), 2) Remove four bolts further down the door jam with T25 Torx (both sides), 3) Unscrew antenna and remove bolt under fascia corner with T20 Torx (both sides), 4) Release and remove grille using flat screwdriver on tabs, 5) Remove bolt inside headlight with T25 Torx (both sides), 6) Remove three bumper bolts with T40 Torx (both sides), 7) Remove styrofoam piece from frame hole (both sides), 8) Remove tire lug nuts with 15MM socket and remove tires (all four), 9) Remove frame bracket bolt with 8MM socket (both sides). Set all removed components aside for reinstallation.
1) Place 2" x 4" wood block behind cutting area to protect plastic (both sides), 2) Cut with reciprocating saw flush with frame edge 2 1/2" up and straight across underneath the nut (both sides), 3) Measure 2 1/2" from edge on plastic guard, 4) Measure 7" up from bottom and cut with utility knife, 5) Measure 5" across and cut with utility knife, fold plastic back (both sides), 6) Trim tab with utility knife (both sides), 7) On driver's side, disconnect temperature sensor and cut straight down along edge of plug plate; on passenger side, measure 3" over from frame end and cut straight down, 8) Align baseplate with existing hole and clamp, 9) Using baseplate as template with 13/32" drill bit, drill three holes (both sides), 10) Insert 3/8-16 x 1 1/4" bolt with 3/8" lock washer in bottom hole, attach to 3/8-16 nut on inside with Loctite (both sides), 11) In top two holes, use 3/8-16 x 1 1/2" bolts with 3/8" lock washers, attach to 3/8-16 nut plates with Loctite (both sides), 12) On driver's side, drill new hole with 13/32" drill bit and attach temperature sensor.
