Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.

The headlight assembly, blinker assembly, front fascia, metal bumper, and air baffle on the passenger's side must be removed. The air dam must also be removed. These components are reinstalled after baseplate installation.
Yes, drilling is required. You must use a 1 1/2" hole saw to cut holes into the bumper bracket on both sides to gain access to the frame rail. You must also use a 13/32" drill bit to drill two holes on both sides of the baseplate, and a 9/32" drill bit to drill holes for the electrical bracket. These modifications are permanent.
Yes, trimming of the air dam is required. After baseplate installation, you must hold the air dam as close to its original position as possible, mark it, and trim as needed before reinstalling. Additionally, you may need to trim the lower mesh grille opening of the fascia with diagonal cutters, or alternatively remove the twelve retainer clips from the back of the fascia and completely remove the mesh grille.
1. After removing the required components, pull the radiator clips forward to release the radiator on both sides and allow it to slide up. 2. Rotate the baseplate behind the bumper brackets and slide it onto the frame rails on both sides. 3. Align the baseplate with existing holes on the frame, insert bolt plates into the 1 1/2" hole on the bumper bracket through to the existing holes and baseplate, then tighten 3/8" lock washers and hex nuts. 4. Using the baseplate as a template, drill two holes with a 13/32" drill bit on both sides, insert the bolt plate through the 1 1/2" hole into the drilled hole, and tighten 3/8" lock washer and hex nut. 5. Insert hex bolt into the top of the baseplate and drilled hole on frame webbing, tighten 3/8" lock washer and hex nut on both sides. 6. Snap the radiator back to its original position.
The manual states that all bolts and hex nuts must be torqued according to the torque chart in the General Instruction sheet, which is not included in this installation manual. Contact your Blue Ox dealer or refer to the separate General Instruction sheet for specific torque values.

Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. The BX3321 kit includes two 36" safety cables (226-0046) and two 3/8 quicklinks (229-0359). The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. Do not mount the permanent baseplate safety cables against wires, hoses or brake lines. These cables are to be used in conjunction with, and NOT a replacement for legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Watch for oil cooler and air conditioner lines, electrical wires and hoses, and missing parts or attaching points on the frame. If the baseplate is improperly installed and is against a wire or hose, it could cause fluid leaks or electrical shorts some time after the actual baseplate installation.
