The Blue Ox BX3332 Tow Bar Bracket is a top-of-the-line towing accessory designed to ensure a seamless and secure connection. Each base plate is meticulously tailored for a specific vehicle to provide a perfect fit, delivering reliable performance in all towing situations. Made from robust steel and coated with a black powder finish, this bracket is not only sturdy but also resistant to corrosion and wear. The bolt-on mounting type offers a swift and straightforward installation process, with all necessary hardware included. With the Blue Ox BX3332, you can trust in a durable and dependable tow bar bracket that's built to last.

Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

The BX3332 baseplate is designed for 2008-10 Saturn Vue and Redline models, and 2012-15 Chevy Captiva (all models). If your vehicle's front appearance differs from the manual's reference image, contact Blue Ox at (402) 385-3051 before purchasing or installing.
The attachment tab height is 21-1/2" and the width is 18-1/2".
Required tools include: large vise grip, reciprocating saw, utility knife, Phillips screwdriver, torque wrench, drill, tape measure, 13/32" drill bit, 1-1/4" hole saw, 7MM socket, 10MM socket, 12MM socket, 9/16" socket, 9/16" wrench, and Loctite Red.
Yes. The fascia, hood latch, air baffle, air dams, windshield washer fluid reservoir, and coolant lines (if equipped) must be removed for baseplate installation and then reinstalled afterward. All removed components should be placed on a flat, sturdy surface.
Yes. Drilling is required. You will drill a 13/32" hole into the frame and frame extension using the baseplate as a template (Step 23), and a 1-1/4" hole saw into the center of the indent on the frame extension to set the wire nut (Step 20). A hole is also drilled according to the tail light wiring kit instructions.
Yes. Trimming is required. The air dam must be trimmed 1-1/2" wide by 2" tall on the passenger side only (Step 22). The grille opening must be trimmed as needed to accommodate the connector plug during fascia reinstallation (Steps 31-32).
Yes. A reciprocating saw is used to cut the frame and frame extensions. The frame is cut 1-3/4" down from the top, down to 8", then at an angle to miss the bolt hole (Step 18). The frame extension is cut in the same area (Step 19). The manual notes that dimensional variations between vehicles can be considerable and the baseplate may need slight tailoring.
Blue Ox recommends that towing products be installed by Blue Ox Dealers who are familiar with the products and have the equipment and knowledge necessary to do "fit work." Blue Ox Dealers can be found at www.blueox.com or by contacting the Technical Service Department at (402) 385-3051.
The kit includes: 1 BX3332 baseplate, 8 nut plates with wire (3/8"-16), 8 hex head bolts 3/8"-16 x 1-1/2" Grade 5, 8 lock washers 3/8", 6 flat washers 5/16", 4 flat washers 3/8", 1 electrical bracket 20 degree, 3 hex head bolts 1/4"-20 x 3/4" Grade 5, 2 lock washers 1/4", 2 hex flange whiz nuts 1/4", 2 slotted round head screws #10-32 x 1/2", 2 lock washers #10, 2 hex nuts #10-32, 2 four-way adapter connectors, 2 self-drilling screws #10-16, 3 flat washers 1/4", 2 attachment tab assemblies, 1 TT frame bracket, 1 hex head bolt 6MM-1.0 x 30MM Grade 8.8, 1 lock washer 6MM, 2 class III safety cables, 4 quicklinks 3/8", 2 black cap plug receivers, 2 self-drilling screws #12-14 x 1", and 1 hex nylon nut 1/4"-20.
The manual states: "Even though bolts are there, do not assume they are adequate for baseplate mounting. Always use the hardware supplied in the hardware kit and existing hardware as specified in the installation instructions." For example, the hood latch assembly and metal bumper are reinstalled using existing holes and bolts (Step 26), the air baffle is reattached with existing holes and bolts (Step 28), and the washer reservoir is reinstalled with existing bolts (Step 27). However, the baseplate itself is mounted using the supplied hardware kit.
The manual provides general torque charts for inch and metric bolts by grade and size, but does not specify which torque values apply to individual baseplate bolts. The manual states: "Tighten all bolts according to the torque chart provided unless otherwise specified" and "Be sure to use a sufficient amount of Loctite Red on all bolt threads before tightening." For the 3/8"-16 bolts (Grade 5), the chart shows 33 ft-lbs. For the 6MM-1.0 bolt (Grade 8.8), the chart shows 6 ft-lbs. Contact Blue Ox at (402) 385-3051 for confirmation of specific application torque values.
The BX8869 Tail Light Wiring Kit is recommended for this vehicle.
The baseplate must be clamped and aligned so the lower edge is flush with the ridge on the side of the frame extension and 1/4" above the top ridge of the frame extension (Step 23). The large hole on the passenger side must align with the existing large hole on the frame extension, and the driver side must be adjusted an equal distance forward. The baseplate must be level with the frame extension ridge before tightening (Step 24). Flat washers (5/16" or 3/8") may be placed between the baseplate and extension as needed to fill gaps (Step 25).
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR. Exceeding this weight will void the manufacturer's warranty. You should reference your vehicle owner's manual for the manufacturer's towing specifications.
Yes. The BX3332 kit includes 2 class III safety cables and 4 quicklinks. These permanent baseplate safety cables must be attached to the baseplate and secured to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame (Step 30). The cables must not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Permanent baseplate safety cables are supplementary to and not a replacement for legally required safety cables that attach the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
For Vue/Captiva models, place the electrical bracket (item 7) as high as possible on the webbing of the lower metal bumper support, keeping a 3/16" gap to the right of center. Install using #10-16 self-drilling screws and 1/4" flat washers (Step 29A). For Redline models, use the existing bolt in the top hole of the connector and install with a 6MM x 30MM hex bolt and 6MM lock washer with two 5/16" washers behind to get the bracket flush (Step 29B).
Before reinstalling the fascia, ensure that all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly. Verify that the baseplate is level with the frame extension ridge. Ensure that safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Inspect that all bolts are tightened to specification with Loctite Red applied. The owner's responsibility is to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip.
It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Be sure to use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications. The attachment tabs should be removed when not in use (if applicable). The baseplate should not be used if it is damaged, missing parts, or has been involved in an accident.
If the front of your vehicle looks different than the reference image in the manual, contact Blue Ox at (402) 385-3051 before proceeding with installation.
The manual does not specify whether the battery must be disconnected. Contact Blue Ox at (402) 385-3051 for guidance on this step.
Yes. The cutting of the frame and frame extensions (Steps 18-19) and trimming of the air dam (Step 22) are permanent modifications. The manual recommends using good quality paint to spray cut edges of frame to prevent rusting.
The BX3332 fits 2008-10 Saturn Vue and Redline models, and 2012-15 Chevy Captiva (all models). If your vehicle's front looks different from the manual reference, contact Blue Ox at (402) 385-3051.
You will need a reciprocating saw, drill, 13/32" and 1-1/4" hole saw bits, sockets (7MM, 10MM, 12MM, 9/16"), screwdrivers, torque wrench, tape measure, utility knife, vise grip, and Loctite Red.
Yes. You must remove and reinstall the fascia, hood latch, air baffle, air dams, windshield washer fluid reservoir, and coolant lines (if equipped). Some drilling, trimming, and cutting is required.
The manual provides general torque charts by bolt size and grade but does not specify application-specific values. Use Loctite Red on all bolt threads and tighten according to the provided chart. For 3/8"-16 Grade 5 bolts, the chart shows 33 ft-lbs. Contact Blue Ox at (402) 385-3051 for specific application torque values.
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR. Exceeding this weight voids the warranty. Reference your vehicle owner's manual for manufacturer's towing specifications.
Yes. Two class III safety cables and four quicklinks are included. They must be attached to the baseplate and secured to the vehicle's frame. They supplement, not replace, legally required safety cables.
The BX8869 Tail Light Wiring Kit is recommended for this vehicle.
The manual notes that dimensional variations between otherwise identical vehicles can be considerable. If alignment is difficult, the baseplate may need to be tailored slightly to compensate for vehicle manufacturer's tolerances. Ensure the lower edge of the baseplate is flush with the ridge on the side of the extension and 1/4" above the top ridge of the frame extension. The large hole on the passenger side must align with the existing large hole on the frame extension, and the driver side must be adjusted an equal distance forward. Use clamps to hold the baseplate in position while drilling. If gaps remain between the baseplate and extension, use 5/16" or 3/8" flat washers as needed to fill them (Step 25).
The manual instructs to hold the fascia as close to its original position as possible and trim the grille opening as needed (Steps 31-32). This trimming is necessary to accommodate the connector plug. If the fascia still does not fit, verify that all removed components (hood latch, metal bumper, air baffle, washer reservoir, coolant lines) have been properly reinstalled in their original positions.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
Before reinstalling the fascia, ensure that all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly. If accessories are not functioning after installation, verify that: (1) all hoses and electrical connections to the washer reservoir have been properly reconnected (Step 27); (2) the main plug in the front has been reconnected (Step 7); (3) the coolant line has been properly reconnected on the passenger side if equipped (Step 26); (4) the connector plug has been properly installed during fascia reinstallation (Steps 31-32). If problems persist, contact Blue Ox at (402) 385-3051.
