Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

Yes, the BX2643 is designed for 2010-19 Ford Taurus and Taurus SHO models, including those with Adaptive Cruise Control. However, if the front of your vehicle looks different from the image shown in the manual, contact Blue Ox at (402) 385-3051 before proceeding with installation.
Yes. The BX2643 is designed to work with 2010-19 Ford Taurus and Taurus SHO models that include Adaptive Cruise Control. For ACC models, a support bracket must be installed during the baseplate installation process.
The attachment tab height is 12-1/2" and the width is 17".
Required tools include: large vise grip, flat screwdriver, utility knife, Phillips screwdriver, torque wrench, drill, tape measure, 13/32" drill bit, 5.5MM socket, 8MM socket, 10MM socket, 11MM socket, and 9/16" socket. Loctite Red is also required for all bolt threads.
A reciprocating saw is required only for Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) models, where it is used to trim the outer edge of the support bracket area. For standard Taurus models, a utility knife is used instead for trimming plastic shrouding and other components.
The kit includes: 10 nut plates with 14" wire (3/8"-16), 2 attachment tab assemblies, 1 breakaway bracket, 3 bolts (1/4"-20 x 3/4"), 2 round slotted head screws (#10-32 1/2"), 4 bolts (3/8"-16 x 2-1/2"), 4 bolts (3/8"-16 x 1-1/4"), 2 bolts (3/8"-16 x 2"), 1 self-drilling screw (#10-16 x 1"), 2 self-drilling screws (#12-14 x 1"), 2 hex nuts (#10-32), 3 nylon lock nuts (1/4"-20), 7 flat washers (1/4"), 12 flat washers (3/8"), 10 lock washers (3/8"), 2 lock washers (#10), 1 4-way bracket, 1 ACC support bracket, 2 safety cables, 2 quicklinks (3/8"), and 2 black cap plug receivers.
No. The BX8848 4-Diode Wiring Kit is recommended for this vehicle but is not included. It must be ordered separately.
Yes. The fascia must be removed to access the frame and install the baseplate. The windshield washer fluid reservoir must also be removed. Both components are reinstalled after baseplate installation is complete.
Yes, on the driver side only. Using an 8MM socket, remove the one screw attaching the horn assembly to the frame on the driver side of the vehicle.
Yes. For Taurus models (not SHO), the air shutter system must be removed. Remove two push pins from the air dam on both sides, remove two screws from the bumper, unclip the air temperature sensor, and release three clamps on the backside of the air shutter. The shutter is reinstalled after baseplate installation.
Yes. Drilling is required. For ACC models, two 1/4" holes must be drilled for the support bracket. For all models, a 17/32" drill bit is used to drill two bottom holes through the frame, and a 3/8" drill bit is used to drill three remaining holes through the frame and bumper. A utility knife is also used to trim plastic components.
Three drill bit sizes are required: 1/4" (for ACC support bracket holes), 17/32" (for bottom two frame holes), and 3/8" (for remaining frame and bumper holes).
Yes. The fascia must be marked and trimmed on the backside on both sides to accommodate the baseplate and attachment tabs. Additionally, the front tab of the washer fluid reservoir must be marked and trimmed.
Yes. For Taurus models, the lower section of the air shutter must be trimmed for clearance around the baseplate. Save the removed shutters in case the baseplate is removed in the future.
Yes. For Taurus SHO models only, use a utility knife to trim off the plastic shrouding from the underside of the bumper on the passenger side.
The manual provides general torque charts for Grade 5 and Grade 8 inch bolts, and Grade 8.8 and 10.9 metric bolts. For example, 3/8" Grade 5 bolts require 33 ft-lbs, and 3/8" Grade 8 bolts require 47 ft-lbs. However, specific torque values for individual BX2643 bolts are not explicitly stated in the installation steps. All bolts must be tightened with Loctite Red applied to threads according to the appropriate torque chart based on bolt grade and size.
According to the torque chart provided, 3/8" Grade 5 bolts require 33 foot-pounds of torque. All bolts must have Loctite Red applied to threads before tightening.
According to the torque chart provided, 1/4" Grade 5 bolts require 10 foot-pounds of torque. All bolts must have Loctite Red applied to threads before tightening.
The BX8848 4-Diode Wiring Kit is recommended for this vehicle. Specific wiring instructions are not included in this installation manual; refer to the wiring kit documentation for connection details.
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating). Exceeding this weight will void the manufacturer's warranty. Refer to your vehicle owner's manual for manufacturer's towing specifications.
Yes. Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended and are included with the kit. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. The cables must not be mounted against wires, hoses, or brake lines. Safety cables are to be used in conjunction with, and not as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Attach the permanent baseplate safety cables to the provided convenience link on the baseplate. The cables should be secured to a solid piece of the frame. Ensure the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Do not mount the cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines. The manual shows recommended installation routing to the frame of the vehicle.
Before reinstalling the fascia, ensure all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly. Verify that all bolts are tightened to the appropriate torque specifications with Loctite Red applied. Check that safety cables are properly routed and do not rub against hoses or moving parts. Inspect that the fascia and all components are properly trimmed and reinstalled.
Before each towing trip, inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications. Paint cut edges of the frame with good quality paint to prevent rusting. Remove the attachment tabs when not in use.
Yes. Use a good quality paint to spray cut edges of the frame to prevent rusting.
No. If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
No. Use only genuine factory replacement parts on your baseplate. Do not substitute homemade or non-typical parts. If a bolt is lost or needs replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade (in most cases Grade 5). Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox Dealer or Distributor. Failing to follow these requirements will void the manufacturer's warranty.
Blue Ox towing products are intended to be installed by Blue Ox Dealers who are familiar with the products and have the equipment and knowledge necessary to do fit work. If needed, Blue Ox Dealers can be found at www.blueox.com or by contacting the Technical Service Department at (402) 385-3051.
Yes, the BX2643 is designed for 2010-19 Ford Taurus and Taurus SHO models, including Adaptive Cruise Control versions. If your vehicle's front looks different from the manual image, contact Blue Ox at (402) 385-3051.
You'll need a drill, torque wrench, sockets (5.5MM, 8MM, 10MM, 11MM, 9/16"), screwdrivers, utility knife, vise grip, tape measure, drill bits (1/4", 17/32", 3/8"), and Loctite Red. A reciprocating saw is required only for ACC models.
Yes. You'll drill holes with 1/4", 17/32", and 3/8" bits. Trimming of the fascia, washer reservoir, and air shutter (Taurus models) or plastic shrouding (SHO models) is also required.
Yes. Both must be removed to access the frame for baseplate installation and are reinstalled after the baseplate is secured.
Use the torque chart provided: 3/8" Grade 5 bolts = 33 ft-lbs, 1/4" Grade 5 bolts = 10 ft-lbs. Apply Loctite Red to all bolt threads before tightening.
Yes. Permanent baseplate safety cables are included and strongly recommended. They must be routed from the baseplate to the vehicle's frame and must not contact wires, hoses, or brake lines.
No. If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced and cannot be reused. Unseen damage could cause failure or injury.
Before reinstalling the fascia, ensure all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly. If connections are not working, check that all connectors are fully seated and that no wires were damaged during fascia removal or reinstallation. Verify that the horn assembly was properly reconnected on the driver side.
The dimensional variations between otherwise identical vehicles can be considerable. While the baseplate was designed for easy installation, it may be necessary to tailor the baseplate slightly to compensate for vehicle manufacturer's tolerances. If the baseplate does not fit properly, contact Blue Ox Technical Service at (402) 385-3051 for guidance.
Reposition the safety cables so they do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. The cables must be routed to a solid piece of the frame without contacting wires, hoses, or brake lines. If repositioning is not possible, contact Blue Ox Technical Service at (402) 385-3051 for alternative routing guidance.
