Blue Ox base plates are custom designed for each specific towed vehicle. When you purchase a Blue Ox base plate, it includes all the necessary hardware and instructions for a do-it-yourself installation.
Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.

No. Due to the design of the removable tabs on the BX2330, the RangeFinder II tow bar cannot be used with this baseplate.

The front fascia and washer reservoir must be removed for baseplate installation. The fascia is removed by taking out Phillips push pins, metric bolts, and unclipping electrical components. The washer reservoir is removed from the passenger side by unplugging hoses and removing bolts.
Yes. Drilling is required. You must drill five holes using a 13/32" drill bit. The baseplate is used as a template to mark the hole locations on the frame rail.
Trimming of the frame and air dam is required. Using a reciprocating saw, cut straight across the top of the washer reservoir hole and straight down on the inside edge on both sides. On the air dam, mark a line 3-1/2" up from the bottom edge and cut straight up the crease, then cut straight out 2" to the edge, and remove this area with the reciprocating saw on both sides.
Slide the baseplate onto the frame rail to align with the existing hole for the washer reservoir on the passenger's side. The baseplate should measure 1/2" from the top of the frame ribbing down to the top edge of the baseplate and be positioned as far forward as possible on both sides. Clamp it in place with a vise grip before drilling.
The torque specification for 3/8"-16 Grade 5 bolts is 33 foot-pounds. All bolts must be treated with Loctite RED before tightening.
The torque specification for 1/4"-20 Grade 5 bolts is 10 foot-pounds. All bolts must be treated with Loctite RED before tightening.
Insert the nut plates into the end of the frame rail, just behind the metal bumper bracket, to align with the top three drilled holes. Then insert 3/8"-16 x 1-1/4" hex bolts and 3/8" lock washers into the baseplate drilled holes. Use Loctite RED on all bolts and tighten with a 9/16" socket.
Insert 3/8"-16 x 1-1/4" hex bolts and 3/8" lock washers into the baseplate's bottom two holes to align with 3/8"-16 lock nuts. Tighten with a 9/16" socket. Be sure to use Loctite RED on all bolts.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. They should remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed. The cables must not be mounted against wires, hoses, or brake lines.
Attach the permanent baseplate safety cables to the provided convenience link on the baseplate. The recommended installation attaches the cables to the frame of the vehicle. Additional options may interfere with suggested mounting; in that case, secure the cables to a solid piece of the frame. Ensure the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Do this on both sides of the vehicle.
Reinstall the washer reservoir on the passenger side using the existing bolts. Be sure that all electrical connections and hoses are plugged in properly before proceeding.
Position the flat behind the breakaway bracket and attach it with 1/4"-20 x 3/4" bolts and 1/4" lock washers. Use Loctite RED on all bolts and tighten to the specified torque (10 foot-pounds for 1/4"-20 Grade 5 bolts).

Always use hardware supplied in the hardware kit or existing hardware specified in the Baseplate Towing Installation Instructions. Do not assume existing bolts are adequate for baseplate mounting, even though bolts may be present. If a bolt is lost or needs replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade (usually Grade 5).
