Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

The BX2521 is a Blue Ox baseplate designed for 2006-08 Mazda 6 vehicles. It is the foundation component of a towing system that connects the towed vehicle to a tow bar. The baseplate mounts to the vehicle's frame and includes attachment tabs for the tow bar connection.
No. Due to the design of the removable tabs on the BX2521, the RangeFinderII tow bar cannot be used with this baseplate.
Only the BX8833 and BX88151 adapters can be used with the BX2521 baseplate. All other adapters are not compatible.
Required tools include: 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 13mm, 7/16", and 9/16" sockets; 3/4" socket; 13/32" and 17/32" drill bits; Phillips screwdriver; diagonal cutter; vise grips; and Loctite Red.
The kit includes: 1 BX2521 baseplate, 2 spacer plates (driver and passenger side), 6 nut plates with 14" wire (3/8"-16), 2 nut plates with 10" wire (1/2"-13), hex bolts in multiple sizes and grades, lock washers, flat washers, hex nuts, self-drilling screws, 2 4-way connector adapters, 2 attachment assemblies, 2 36" Class III safety cables, 2 3/8" quicklinks, and 2 cap plugs. Yes. Blue Ox towing products are intended to be installed by Blue Ox Dealers who are familiar with the products and have the equipment and knowledge necessary to do fit work. Blue Ox Dealers can be found at www.blueox.com or by contacting Customer Care at (402) 385-3051.
Yes. Drilling is required. On the driver's side, you must ream out the largest hole with a 17/32" drill bit and drill four remaining holes with a 13/32" drill bit. The same drilling pattern is repeated on the passenger's side. The spacer plate is used as a template for hole placement.
Yes. Trimming of the grille style is required. Using a diagonal cutter, you must trim necessary openings in the grille to accommodate the attachment tabs. This is done after the baseplate is installed and before the fascia is reinstalled.
Yes. On the passenger's side frame rail, you must use vise grips to break off the washer reservoir stud to allow proper baseplate installation.
The attachment tab height is 13" and the attachment tab width is 24".
The BX8848 4-Diode Wiring Kit is recommended for this vehicle.
The kit includes 2 4-way connector adapters. Breakaway switch (part 293-1339), 4-pin connector (294-0805), and 6-pin connector (294-0902) are not provided and must be obtained separately.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. The BX2521 kit includes 2 36" Class III safety cables and 2 3/8" quicklinks. These cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member and should remain installed as long as the baseplate is on the vehicle. They are to be used in conjunction with, not as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
The permanent baseplate safety cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. Do not mount the cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines. The manual shows recommended installation to the frame of the vehicle; if additional options interfere with this mounting, secure the cable to a solid piece of the vehicle's frame.
Before each towing trip, inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Ensure all bolts have Loctite Red applied and are tightened to the recommended specifications.
All electrical connections must be plugged in properly and functioning before installing the fascia. This is critical to ensure the towing system operates correctly.
No. The removable attachment tabs should be removed when not in use.
