Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.

Yes, the BX1304 is designed for 2007-10 Mini Cooper Hardtop (No S) models only. Do not use on Mini Cooper S models.
The BX1304 is rated for Class III, 5,000 lb. However, the manual notes that the weight of some 2007-10 Mini Cooper Hardtop models, depending on options, may exceed this 5,000 lb. rating. You must confirm the weight of your individual vehicle before towing. If your vehicle exceeds 5,000 lbs., you cannot use this baseplate or tow bar adapters.
The attachment tab height is 13.5 inches and the attachment tab width is 22 inches.

Yes, drilling is required. You will drill two holes underneath the baseplate and two holes on the side using a 13/32" drill bit (step 10), and one hole using a 1 1/4" hole saw on top of the metal bumper on both sides (step 8).
Yes, trimming is required. You must cut the air dams 3 inches down and 2.5 inches in on both sides to make room for the baseplate (step 6). You must also trim 1 1/8" from the top of the temperature sensor notch and cut out the webbing (step 7). Additionally, you will mark and cut the fascia on the outside edges of the receiver tube and convenience links (step 16).
Yes. The fascia metal bumper and air baffle are removed and reinstalled during installation of the baseplate. The fascia must be disconnected from side running and fog lights before removal.

1. Hold the baseplate in place and start the 8MM-1.25 x 50MM bolt with lock and two flat washers into the existing hole on both sides, then clamp the baseplate in place (step 9). 2. Drill two holes underneath the baseplate and two holes on the side using a 13/32" drill bit on both sides (step 10). 3. Insert 3/8-16 x 1 1/4" bolts with Loctite RED, 3/8" lock washers and 3/8" nut plates into the drilled holes on the bottom on both sides (step 11). 4. Insert 3/8-16 x 1 1/4" bolts with Loctite RED, 3/8" lock washers and 3/8" nut plates into the holes drilled on the side on both sides (step 12). 5. On top of bumper, remove the nut and replace with a 1" x 1.5" nut with Loctite applied, located 1" in, on both sides (step 13).
According to the torque chart on page 1, 3/8" Grade 5 bolts should be torqued to 33 foot-pounds.

Yes. Loctite RED must be applied to all bolts before tightening. The manual states: "BE SURE TO USE LOCTITE® RED ON ALL BOLTS BEFORE TIGHTENING."
The temperature sensor is located on both sides behind the grille. Trim 1 1/8" from the top to remove the notch holding the sensor and cut and remove the webbing with it. Then replace the sensor in another notch that you will cut out a little further down (step 7).
The wire air sensor originally is placed around the top of the fog light. It needs to be moved behind the fog light and placed and taped below the fog light. Cut off a clip and tape the sensor below the fog light (step 14).
Hold the fascia up to its original location and mark and cut the fascia just on the outside edges of the receiver tube and convenience links on both sides of the vehicle (step 16).
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. The cables are to be used in conjunction with, and NOT as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle. Do not mount the cables against wires, hoses or brake lines.
Before each towing trip, inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts and loose bolts. Ensure that all electrical connections are plugged in properly and functioning before installing the fascia. Confirm the towability and pre-towing procedures for your vehicle with the owner's manual or contact the vehicle's manufacturer for specific towing procedures.
Yes. The manual states: "Remove the attachment tabs when not in use (if applicable)."
Yes. If a bolt is lost or needs replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade. In most cases it will be Grade 5. Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox Dealer or Distributor. Do not substitute homemade or non-typical parts.
Using a good quality paint, spray cut edges of frame to prevent rusting.
Pushpins are removed using a flat screwdriver. There are four pushpins on the top edge of the grille (step 1), two pushpins on each side when the front tire is forwarded (step 2), one pushpin connecting the fascia on each side after removing the wheel well cover (step 3), and four pushpins from the edge of the bottom of the fascia on both sides (step 5). All pushpins should be set aside for later reinstallation.
By the wheel well there is one bolt that needs to be removed with a 10MM socket. After removing the grille, there are two bolts that need to be removed with a 10MM socket. Do this on both sides and set aside for later reinstallation (step 4).
Remove four pushpins from the edge of the bottom of the fascia on both sides. Remove a torqued 25T bolt from both sides using a torque wrench. Remove three pushpins in the center. Remove eyebolts from the fascia. Pull the fascia forward and disconnect side running and fog lights. Set the fascia aside for later reinstallation (step 5).
Cut the air dams 3 inches down and 2.5 inches in on both sides to make room for the baseplate. These will not be reinstalled (step 6).
Using an existing hole on top of the metal bumper, drill a hole using a 1 1/4" hole saw to cut an opening for the front end to install nut plates. Do this on both sides (step 8).
A 13/32" drill bit is used to drill two holes underneath the baseplate and two holes on the side on both sides of the vehicle (step 10).
Trim the threads off the outer bolt flush with the nut on both sides of the vehicle (step 9).
On top of the bumper, remove the nut and replace with a 1" x 1.5" nut with Loctite applied. The hole is located 1" in, and you will need one for both sides (step 13).

Blue Ox offers a three-year limited warranty to the original retail purchaser. The warranty covers defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service. The customer warranty card must be returned within 30 days of purchase, and a copy of the original invoice showing date and place of purchase must accompany any warranty claim. The warranty is non-transferable and does not cover incorrect or improper installation, improper use, modification, neglect, failure to properly service and maintain, misuse, normal wear and tear, paint or rust.

If the sensor does not fit, verify that the new notch is cut to the correct depth and location, and that the webbing has been completely removed.
The manual notes that dimensional variations between otherwise identical vehicles can be considerable, and it may be necessary to tailor the baseplate slightly to compensate for auto manufacturer's tolerances. These minor adjustments may include filing a hole slightly, bending electrical rods and/or bending end plates. Ensure the fascia is cut just on the outside edges of the receiver tube and convenience links as specified in step 16.
