The Blue Ox BX1313 Tow Bar Bracket is a robust and reliable towing solution, designed to provide superior strength and durability. Crafted from high-quality steel, it boasts a black powder coat finish that guarantees resistance against corrosion and enhances its lifespan. The bracket is a bolt-on type which ensures a secure and sturdy installation. With all mounting hardware included and clear instructions, installation is a breeze even for DIY enthusiasts.

Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

Yes. The manual states: 'Use a good quality paint to spray cut edges of frame to prevent rusting.' This should be done after drilling and trimming to protect the exposed metal from corrosion.
Torque specifications depend on bolt grade and size. For Grade 5 bolts: 1/4" = 10 ft-lbs, 3/8" = 33 ft-lbs, 5/16" = 19 ft-lbs. For Grade 8 bolts: 1/4" = 14 ft-lbs, 3/8" = 47 ft-lbs, 5/16" = 29 ft-lbs. For metric Grade 8.8 bolts: 6MM = 6 ft-lbs, 8MM = 16 ft-lbs, 10MM = 31 ft-lbs, 12MM = 54 ft-lbs. For metric Grade 10.9 bolts: 6MM = 8 ft-lbs, 8MM = 22 ft-lbs, 10MM = 40 ft-lbs, 12MM = 70 ft-lbs. Use Loctite Red on all bolt threads before tightening.
The Attachment Tab Height is 12" and the Attachment Tab Width is 20".
Follow this sequence: (1) Using a T30 Torx, remove five (5) screws from the top edge of the fascia. (2) Using an 8MM socket, remove two (2) white screws and one (1) gray push pin from the outer edge of the wheel well on both sides. (3) Using an 8MM socket, remove seven (7) screws from the underside of the fascia. (4) Pry the fender flare away from the vehicle and using a T30 Torx, remove the screw from behind the fender flare on both sides. (5) Pull the corners of the fascia away from the vehicle, disconnect any electrical connections, and set the fascia aside.
Using a T30 Torx, remove the two (2) screws from the washer reservoir. Disconnect and plug all lines, then set the reservoir aside. It will be reinstalled after the baseplate is installed.
On the driver side, using a 10MM socket, remove the screw from the upper horn and set it aside (gray). Using a T30 Torx, remove the two (2) screws from the horn bracket (white). Disconnect all lines and set the horn assembly aside. The horn will be reattached to the bracket after the bracket is reinstalled.
Using a T30 Torx, remove the two (2) screws from the top of the support bracket. Using an 8MM socket, remove the bolt from the bottom of the support bracket. Using an 18MM socket, remove the two (2) frame bolts (gray). Do this on both sides of the vehicle. Set the bracket and 8MM bolt aside.
Install the baseplate to the vehicle using the existing frame holes with the supplied 12MM bolts and lock washers (gray). Level and fully tighten all bolts. Using a 3/8" drill bit, drill the lower mounting holes through the frame. Install the 3/8"-16 x 1-1/2" bolts and 3/8" lock nuts with the spacer tubes in between frame and baseplate. Do this on both sides of the vehicle. Use Loctite Red on all bolt threads and tighten all bolts to the appropriate torque. Fully tighten all hardware.
Remove the back strap from the support brackets by removing the T30 screw towards the top (step 10). Trim off the upper section of the support brackets as shown (step 11). Reinstall the support bracket with the existing bolt. Mark the backside of the bracket where the existing hole in the baseplate hits. Remove the bracket and drill the hole with a 3/8" bit. Use Loctite Red on all bolt threads and tighten all bolts to the appropriate torque. Fully tighten all hardware.
Attach the permanent baseplate safety cables to the convenience link hole on the baseplate. Secure the cables to a solid piece of the frame as described in the instructions included with the permanent baseplate safety cables. Be sure the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Do this on BOTH sides of the vehicle. The permanent baseplate safety cables are to be used in conjunction with, and NOT a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Hold the fascia as close to its original position, mark and trim the fascia around the convenience links and attachment tabs. Reinstall the washer reservoir and fascia. Before reinstalling the fascia, be sure that ALL electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly.
Failure to read and follow these instructions could result in separation of the towed vehicle from the tow bar, causing property damage, loss of towed vehicle, personal injury or death. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts. If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. DO NOT use it again, as an accident can cause unseen damage and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury.
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR. Exceeding this weight will void the manufacturer's warranty. Always reference your vehicle owner's manual for manufacturer's towing specifications and ensure you do not exceed the GVWR.
When using power drills, be aware of the dangers of torque and drill bit length. When using a reciprocating saw, be aware of objects behind the cutting surface. Handling of some cosmetic parts when installing this product may require the use of protective covers, rags, specialty tools, etc. to prevent damage.
Do not mount the permanent baseplate safety cables against wires, hoses or brake lines. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. It is the installer's responsibility to watch for oil cooler and air conditioner lines, electrical wires and hoses, and missing parts or attaching points on the frame. If the baseplate is improperly installed and is against a wire or hose, it could cause fluid leaks or electrical shorts some time after the actual baseplate installation.
Be sure that ALL electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly before reinstalling the fascia.
It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts and loose bolts before each towing trip. Be sure to use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications. Ensure that your product is registered online at www.blueox.com so that you may be alerted of product offerings, updates, upgrades, maintenance and safety bulletins, and/or recalls.
No. The BX8848 4-Diode Wiring Kit is recommended for this vehicle but is not included in the baseplate kit. It must be ordered separately.
No. Use only genuine factory replacement parts on your baseplate. Do NOT substitute homemade or non-typical parts. If a bolt is lost or in need of replacement, for your safety and the preservation of your baseplate, be sure to use a replacement bolt of the same grade (in most cases it will be Grade 5). Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox Dealer or Distributor. Failing to follow and/or altering these installation instructions will void the manufacturer's warranty.
