Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.

Yes. The fascia must be removed for installation. The removal process involves removing 6 pushpins from the top plastic piece, 10 bolts from underneath using a 10MM socket, 2 bolts forward of the front tire on each side, and then pulling the fascia corners out and forward. The fascia is reinstalled at the end of the installation after trimming as necessary.
In addition to the fascia, you must remove: styrofoam from the metal bumper and styrofoam shroud from the lower air dam, the lower air dam itself (3 push pins on each side), the middle belly pan (8 bolts and 1 push pin on each side), the plastic push pin from the washer reservoir spout, the windshield washer reservoir (2 hex nuts on passenger side only), the air baffle on the driver's side (2 bolts), the aluminum bumper (4 bolts on each side), and the bumper bracket (2 push pins and 4 bolts on each side). Most components are reinstalled later; the lower air dam and shroud are not reinstalled.
No drilling is required. However, cutting with a reciprocating saw is required. You must make two slits on each side of the frame: a front slit 1 3/4" down from the center of the hole, 4 1/4" by 1" wide, and a bottom slit 1" wide by 3 3/8" long around the corner down to the bottom of the third hole. Additionally, the fascia must be trimmed with diagonal cutters as necessary to fit properly after installation.

The installation sequence is: 1) Align the baseplate with the bumper bracket holes and start one 8MM bolt on each side with 5/16" flat and lock washers. 2) Insert additional 8MM bolts with Loctite RED and tighten to specifications on both sides. 3) Slide the upper bracket into the hole in the baseplate and start the 1/2"-13 x 1 1/2" bolt with lock and flat washer on the front side. 4) Align the upper bracket with the existing hole in the frame and tighten the front bolt first, then the back bolt with Loctite RED on both sides. 5) Install the lower bracket on the sway bar (passenger side) or frame bolt (driver's side) using 1/2"-13 x 1 1/2" bolts with flat and lock washers and hex nuts, tightened with Loctite RED.
Use the inside holes to bolt the aluminum bumper back on. On the front, use 5/16"-18 x 1 1/4" hex bolts with flat and lock washers. On the back, use 5/16"-18 whiz nuts. Do this on both sides. All bolts must be treated with Loctite RED before tightening to 19 foot-pounds.
Attach the baseplate safety cables (226-0046, 36" Class III) as close as possible to the position shown in the manual photo. If you are unable to place the cables in that position, position them around a solid piece of the frame. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member. Do not mount the cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines. Quick links (229-0359, 3/8") are recommended for attachment. These permanent safety cables must remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed and are to be used in conjunction with, not as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
After baseplate installation, reinstall: the washer reservoir on the passenger's side, the air baffle on the driver's side, the styrofoam and shroud (removed earlier), the fascia (trimmed as necessary with diagonal cutters), and the attachment tabs if applicable. The lower air dam and its shroud are not reinstalled. All electrical connections must be plugged in properly and functioning before installing the fascia.
Before each towing trip, inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Ensure all bolts are treated with Loctite RED and tightened to the recommended specifications. Verify that all electrical connections are plugged in properly and functioning. Remove the attachment tabs when not in use if applicable.
If the baseplate is improperly installed and comes into contact with a wire or hose, it could cause fluid leaks or electrical shorts some time after the actual baseplate installation.
