Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

Yes, the BX3768 is designed specifically for 2007-14 Toyota FJ Cruiser models. However, dimensional variations between otherwise identical vehicles can be considerable, and minor adjustments may be necessary to compensate for manufacturer tolerances. These may include filing a hole slightly, bending electrical rods, or bending end plates.
No. Due to the design of the removable tabs, the RangeFinderII and Ambassador tow bars cannot be used with the BX3768 baseplate. Motorhome mount tow bars are recommended for use with this baseplate.
Most adapters cannot be used with the BX3768 baseplate. The only exceptions are the BX8833 and BX88151 adapters, which are compatible.
The attachment tab height is 24-3/4" and the attachment tab width is 21".
Required tools include: 10mm socket, 12mm socket, 13mm socket, 14mm socket, 18mm socket, 9/16" socket, Phillips screwdriver, 13/32" drill bit, 1 1/4" hole saw, and utility knife. A 3/16" Allen wrench is also needed if accessing the passenger's side tail light for vehicles with optional subwoofer. Loctite RED is required on all bolts.
The kit includes: 1 baseplate weldment (61-6271), 8 nut plates with wire (61-5208), 2 support plates (101-6956), 4 bolts 3/8-16 x 1 1/4" Grade 5 (201-0368), 4 bolts 3/8-16 x 1 1/2" Grade 5 (201-0440), 8 lock washers 3/8" (203-0010), 2 bolts 8mm-1.25 x 30mm Grade 8.8 (201-0446), 2 lock washers 8mm (203-0102), 2 bolts 12mm-1.25 x 45mm Grade 8.8 (201-0603), 2 lock washers 12mm (203-0105), 6 flat washers 1/2" (203-0005), 6 flat washers 3/8" (203-0003), 2 self-drilling screws #12-14 x 1" (201-0979), 2 adapters 4-way connector (101-5822), 2 screws #10-32 x 1/2" (201-0192), 2 lock washers #10 (203-0054), 2 hex nuts #10-32 (202-0047), 2 attachment assemblies SF/LB (62-3468), 2 receiver caps (290-0437), 2 permanent baseplate safety cables (226-0049), and 2 quick links 1/2" (229-0512).
The following components must be removed: fascia support crossbar, grille, belly pan, metal bumper, and fascia. These are removed to access the frame rails and allow baseplate installation. All removed components are reinstalled after baseplate installation is complete.
Yes. Blue Ox towing products are intended to be installed by Blue Ox Dealers who are familiar with the products and have the equipment and knowledge necessary to do fit work. Blue Ox Dealers can be found at www.blueox.com or by contacting the Customer Care Department at (402) 385-3051.
Yes, drilling is required. A 1 1/4" hole saw is used to drill out the center of the frame rail end plate on both sides of the vehicle. A 13/32" drill bit is used to drill two holes in the top of the frame rail extension on both sides. Additional holes may be drilled in frame extensions as templates are used during installation.
Yes, the grille must be trimmed. After the baseplate and fascia are installed, the grille is held up to its original location and marked and trimmed with a utility knife as necessary to accommodate the attachment tabs, convenience links, and electrical rods.
The installation involves drilling holes in the frame rail end plates and frame rail extensions, which are permanent modifications. The grille is trimmed with a utility knife to fit around the baseplate components. However, the baseplate itself is designed to use existing holes and hardware where possible. Minor adjustments such as filing holes slightly, bending electrical rods, or bending end plates may be necessary to compensate for manufacturer tolerances.
The BX8869 Bulb and Socket Wiring Kit is recommended for standard vehicles. If the vehicle has LED lights, the BX8848 Diode Wiring Kit is recommended instead. The BX8869 kit is preferably located in the area shown in the installation instructions.
If the vehicle is equipped with an optional subwoofer, remove four screws from the subwoofer panel in the rear cargo area using a 3/16" Allen wrench. Remove the panel below the subwoofer using a flat screwdriver. Disconnect the electrical connection and remove two Phillips screws. Remove one Phillips screw from each upper corner of the subwoofer case and remove the subwoofer. Use a flat screwdriver to pry off the taillight panel. In the subwoofer recess, angle a 10mm deep socket upward to reach two metric bolts in the taillight area and remove them using a 10mm wrench on the other side. The passenger's side tail light can then be accessed.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. The BX3768 kit includes 2 permanent baseplate safety cables (part 226-0049) and 2 quick links (part 229-0512). The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame and must remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed. The cables must not rub against hoses or moving parts, and must not be mounted against wires, hoses, or brake lines. These cables are to be used in conjunction with, and NOT a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced and not reused. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
When using power drills, be aware of the dangers of torque and drill bit length. The manual does not provide additional specific details on these precautions.
Before installing the fascia, ensure that all electrical connections are plugged in properly and functioning. This is critical to avoid electrical issues after the fascia is reinstalled.
It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications. The attachment tabs should be removed when not in use if applicable. Register your product online at www.blueox.com to be alerted of product offerings, updates, upgrades, maintenance and safety bulletins, and recalls.
No. Use only genuine factory replacement parts on the baseplate. If a bolt is lost or needs replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade (in most cases Grade 5). Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox Dealer or Distributor. Failing to use the correct replacement bolts will void the manufacturer's warranty.
