Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.

Yes. Drilling is required. In step 8, existing holes are reamed out to 1-1/4" on both sides of the vehicle to create access holes. In step 13, three 3/8" holes are drilled on the top of the baseplate on both sides of the vehicle. A 3/8" drill bit and 1-1/4" drill bit are required tools.
Yes. In step 19, the fascia must be marked and trimmed around the convenience links and attachment tabs before reinstallation.
The following components must be removed and later reinstalled: the front fascia, windshield washer fluid reservoir, plastic piece at the bottom of the grill, and belly pan. Yes. The installation uses two existing 12MM bolts from the vehicle to attach the bracket to the frame in step 11. These bolts are left loose initially and are part of the baseplate mounting system. The instructions note that many Blue Ox baseplates are designed to use existing holes and hardware, and that existing hardware should be used as specified in the installation instructions.
The fascia removal sequence is: (1) Remove three 10MM bolts from the driver side and two Phillips head screws (one on each side); (2) Remove one 10MM bolt and one push pin from the passenger side; (3) Lift the plastic piece on the driver side and remove one push pin; (4) Remove three push pins in front of the tire in the wheel well on both sides; (5) Pull back the wheel well cover and remove one 8MM bolt on both sides; (6) Remove eight 8MM bolts from the underside of the fascia and two push pins; (7) Pull down the belly pan and remove one 8MM bolt and one push pin on both sides.
In step 7, use a 10MM socket to remove three bolts from the windshield washer reservoir. Then pinch together the black piece holding the blue reservoir cap to remove it from the frame. Unplug all lines, remove the reservoir, and set it aside for reinstallation later.
In step 12, the baseplate is attached to the bracket using two 3/8" bolts with lock washer and nylon lock nut on both sides of the vehicle. All bolts are tightened fully at this time. In step 14, three 3/8" bolts with lock washer and whiz nuts are inserted into the side plate of the baseplate on both sides of the vehicle.
The permanent baseplate safety cables prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose in the event the connection between the frame of the towed vehicle and the baseplate fails or becomes disconnected. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. Each cable must have an adequate weight rating for the towing system. The weight rating of the two cables together will not qualify as a single cable. These cables should remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed and are to be used in conjunction with, not as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
The permanent baseplate safety cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. The manual shows two recommended options: Option 1 uses a quicklink attached to the baseplate convenience link tabs, and Option 2 is for baseplates without convenience link tabs. The cables must not be mounted against wires, hoses or brake lines. If additional options interfere with the suggested mounting, secure the cables to a solid piece of the frame as described in the General Information sheet.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR. Exceeding this weight will void the manufacturer's warranty. Refer to your vehicle owner's manual for manufacturer's towing specifications.

Blue Ox offers a three-year limited warranty to the original retail purchaser. The warranty covers defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service. The customer warranty card must be returned within 30 days of purchase, and a copy of the original invoice showing date and place of purchase must accompany any warranty claim. The warranty does not cover incorrect or improper installation, improper use, modification or neglect, failure to properly service and maintain, misuse, accident, normal wear and tear, paint or rust.
