Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.

No. Due to the design of the removable tabs on the BX3780, the RangeFinder II tow bar cannot be used with this baseplate.
Most adapters cannot be used with the BX3780 baseplate. Only the BX8833 and BX8851 adapters are compatible.
Required tools are: 10MM socket, 9/16" socket, 14MM socket, large vise grip, 13/32" drill bit, 1/4" drill bit, flat screwdriver, utility knife, reciprocating saw, Loctite RED, and protective covers or rags to prevent damage to cosmetic parts.
The BX8869 Bulb and Socket Wiring Kit is recommended for this vehicle. The manual indicates a possible location for it on the fascia but does not state it is mandatory.
Yes. The fascia, washer reservoir, and horn must be removed and reinstalled during baseplate installation. The fascia is held by six plastic push pins on the top edge and eight metric bolts on the lower edge.
Yes. On the driver's side, the air bag sensor must be removed during installation (Step 17) and reattached after the bumper is reinstalled (Step 19). The sensor is held by two bolts removed with a 10MM socket.

Yes. Drilling is required. You must drill two bottom holes into the frame extension using the baseplate as a template (Step 15), and drill two back holes into the lower frame webbing using a 13/32" drill bit (Step 18). When drilling, be aware of brake lines behind the lower webbing.
Yes. Trimming is required. You must trim the frame extension, lower frame support webbing, lower bumper webbing, plastic belly pan, and air dam using a reciprocating saw. Specific measurements are provided in Steps 9-13 and Step 21. After cutting the plastic belly pan, spray cut edges with good quality paint to prevent rusting.
After removing the frame extension, measure 1" up from the bottom and cut across using a reciprocating saw, then bend in. Trim following the seam up until just under the notch, then connect straight across. Do this on both sides (Step 9).
Using a reciprocating saw, cut a notch starting 5/8" up from the bottom and across in the lower frame support webbing and cut it out on both sides (Step 10).
On the bottom side of the bumper, trim back 2" of lower webbing using a reciprocating saw on both sides (Step 11).
Behind the frame, cut the plastic belly pan 3" down and 1 3/4" in on both sides. After cutting, spray the cut edges with good quality paint to prevent rusting (Step 12).
Trim the air dam down to the first ridge, all the way across and back to the second to the last ridge on both sides (Step 21). Additionally, the temperature sensor on the front of the air dam must be repositioned: squeeze the tabs together on the back side to remove it, use a 1/4" drill bit to put a slot 3/4" back from the original hole, then snap the sensor into the new position (Step 22).
The manual provides general torque specifications for Grade 5 and Grade 8 bolts but does not specify the exact torque value for 3/8-16 bolts. Refer to the torque chart on the front page of the installation instructions or page 3 of the Baseplate Towing General Instructions. The manual states to tighten all bolts according to these charts.
The attachment tab height is 14" and the attachment tab width is 24".
For Grade 5 bolts in 3/8" size, the torque specification is 33 foot-pounds.

If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced and not reused. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
The BX3780 includes permanent baseplate safety cables (226-0046, 36" Class III). These must be attached to the provided convenience link on the baseplate and secured to a solid piece of the frame. Ensure the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. The manual shows a recommended installation location on the frame.
Before installing the fascia, ensure that ALL electrical connections are plugged in properly and functioning. This is critical for safe operation.
When using power drills, be aware of the dangers of torque and drill bit length. When drilling the back two holes into the lower frame webbing (Step 18), be aware of brake lines behind the lower webbing.
Using non-genuine factory replacement parts, homemade parts, or non-typical parts will void the manufacturer's warranty. If a bolt is lost or needs replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade (usually Grade 5). Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox Dealer or Distributor.
Yes. Towing behind a non-motorized vehicle will void the warranty. The baseplate is designed for use with motorized vehicles only.
Failing to follow and/or altering these installation instructions in either installation or required equipment will void the manufacturer's warranty.
After installation, verify that all electrical connections are plugged in properly and functioning before installing the fascia. Ensure the safety cables are properly attached and do not rub against hoses or moving parts. Confirm that all bolts are tightened according to the torque specifications. Consult the vehicle owner's manual or contact the vehicle manufacturer for specific towing procedures and towability confirmation.

Before installing the fascia, verify that ALL electrical connections are plugged in properly and functioning.
