Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.

The BX3783 is designed for 2007-2014 Toyota Yaris Hatchback models. However, the manual notes that if the front of your vehicle looks different than the images shown for 2007-2011 or 2012-2014 models, you should contact Blue Ox at (402) 385-3051 before proceeding. Dimensional variations between otherwise identical vehicles can be considerable, and the baseplate may need slight tailoring to compensate for manufacturer tolerances.

Yes. The BX8869 Tail Light Wiring Kit is recommended for 2007-2011 models, and the BX8848 Tail Light Wiring Kit is recommended for 2012-2014 models only. These are separate products and the correct kit must be used for your model year.

Required tools include: large vise grip, flat screwdriver, utility knife, reciprocating saw, torque wrench, drill, tape measure, 13/32" drill bit, 10MM socket, 14MM socket, 9/16" socket, and 9/16" wrench. You will also need Loctite Red for all bolts.
The following components must be removed and reinstalled after baseplate installation: fascia, windshield washer fluid reservoir, temperature sensor, frame extension, and passenger headlight. Some drilling and trimming is also required. All removed items should be placed on a flat, sturdy surface during installation.
Yes, drilling is required. You will need to drill two bottom holes with a 13/32" drill bit into the frame extension on each side (step 19), and two additional holes with a 13/32" drill bit into the lower frame webbing on each side (step 23). A drill and 13/32" drill bit are included in the required tools.
Yes, significant trimming and cutting is required using a reciprocating saw. You must cut notches in the lower frame support webbing (5/8" up from bottom), trim straight across under the frame hump and back to the groove, cut flush with the bumper 2" up from the edge, remove a notch above a bolt in the frame, trim plastic from in front of the fender well (2" down from crease to ridge), and trim plastic in front of the support plate. For 2012-2014 models, the washer reservoir must also be trimmed. After cutting, spray cut edges of frame with good quality paint to prevent rusting.
The torque specification for 3/8"-16 Grade 5 bolts is 33 foot-pounds. All bolts must be treated with Loctite Red before tightening.

Yes, the number of push pins differs by model year. For 2007-2011 models, five (5) push pins must be removed from the top edge of the fascia, plus one additional push pin on each side just forward of the front tire next to the wheel well edge on the back side of the fascia (total 7). For 2012-2014 models, seven (7) push pins must be removed from the top edge, and the fascia must be unsnapped from the wheel well on both sides just forward of the front tire.
Eight (8) metric bolts must be removed from the lower edge of the fascia all the way around using a 10MM socket. These bolts should be set aside for later reinstallation.
Three (3) bolts must be removed from the bumper core using a 14MM socket, and two (2) hex nuts must be removed using a 10MM socket. This must be done on both sides of the vehicle. All bolts and nuts should be set aside for later reinstallation.
Four (4) bolts must be removed from the frame extension using a 14MM socket—two on top and two on the bottom. This must be done on both sides of the vehicle. The extension and bolts should be set aside for later reinstallation.
Measure up 5/8" from the bottom and across on the lower frame support webbing, then use a reciprocating saw to cut out the notch. This must be done on both sides of the vehicle.

For 2007-2011 models, the temperature sensor should be zip-tied around the baseplate. For 2012-2014 models, the temperature sensor should be attached into the existing body hole using the existing clip.
For 2007-2011 models, the washer reservoir is simply reinstalled and reconnected. For 2012-2014 models, the washer reservoir must be trimmed as shown in the instructions, then re-attached using two (2) 6MM-1.0 x 30MM bolts and 1/4" flat washers, spaced as needed, before reconnecting electrical connections and hoses.
Using the hole in the middle of the lower frame, attach the breakaway bracket with a 6MM-1.0 x 16MM hex bolt and a 1/4" lock washer inserted into the hole (step 29). Then attach the breakaway to the bracket with a 1/4"-20 x 3/4" hex bolt, 1/4" lock washer, and 1/4"-20 hex nut (step 30).
Be sure that ALL electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly before reinstalling the fascia. This is critical to ensure the system is working correctly before the fascia is put back in place.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do NOT use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do NOT use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR. Exceeding this weight will void the manufacturer's warranty. You must reference your vehicle owner's manual for the manufacturer's towing specifications and ensure you do not exceed your vehicle's GVWR.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. The cables prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose if the connection between the frame and baseplate fails. Permanent baseplate safety cables are to be used in conjunction with, and NOT a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Attach the permanent baseplate safety cables to the provided convenience link on the baseplate. The recommended installation is to secure the cables to the frame of the vehicle. Additional options may interfere with suggested mounting; in that case, secure the cables to a solid piece of the frame as described in the instructions included with the permanent baseplate safety cables. Be sure the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Do not mount the cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines.
It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Be sure to use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications.
