Founded in 1920, Bulldog has become the standard for heavy-duty trailer connection hardware in agricultural, military and utility service. Bulldog was founded in 1920 and has spent more than a century supplying the connection hardware that heavy trailers depend on. Its market has always been the demanding end: agricultural, military and utility applications where a coupler failure is not an inconvenience but a serious incident. Gooseneck equipment is the brand's signature. Gooseneck hitches mount in the truck bed over the rear axle, which places the load where the chassis can carry it properly and allows far tighter turning than a receiver hitch permits. Matching gooseneck couplers attach at the trailer end, in round tube and square configurations across the capacity range used by livestock, equipment and flatbed trailers.
The conventional trailer coupler range is built around the Wedge-Latch mechanism, which uses a wedge to take up wear between coupler and ball rather than relying on a fixed clamp that loosens over time. That matters on a trailer accumulating hard miles, where slack in the coupling shows up as noise and shock loading. Couplers are offered in A-frame form for standard tongues and in channel-mount form for straight tongue and fabricated frames, with adjustable channel versions that let a coupler be positioned to suit the tongue height.
Heavy-duty jacks complete the line, sized for the tongue weights that gooseneck and equipment trailers generate. No. These jacks are not designed for mounting to round tongues. However, if your jack has a weld-on pivot tube mount (available in round or square versions), it can be welded to a round or square pivot tube that is then welded to the tongue.
No. A-plate jacks are designed for mounting to trailers with A-plate couplers only. If your trailer has a different coupler type, you will need a different jack mounting style.
Before mounting the jack, confirm that there will be no interference from the tow vehicle, tongue, ground, and any other mounted accessories while stationary or in motion. Check for interference in all positions including handle swing and swivel positions if applicable. Check for interference again after installation is complete.
Secure all mounting bolts with locknuts, torque to 25 ft. lbs.
The gap between the mounting bolts and the tongue is not to exceed 1/16 inch (1.5 mm). The upper bolts should rest on the top of the tongue, and the lower bolts should be less than 1/16 inch from the bottom of the tongue.
1) Place the jack bracket over the mount and place the snap ring in the groove. 2) Seat the snap ring fully into the groove. Before installing the snap ring, inspect the snap ring groove and remove any debris.
1) Place the jack bracket into the recessed opening on the mount. 2) Place the small end of bushing into the jack bracket and onto the bolt. 3) Tighten locknut until there is little movement in the bushing. Note: The bolt should be installed between the trailer tongue and mount; the jack bracket will be held by the bushing between the locknut and the mount.
No. Bolt-on jacks use existing holes in the tongue. However, you must ensure the correct mounting hole pattern for your tongue size. If holes do not exist, you will need to have them drilled before installation.
Yes. All welding must be performed by an AWS certified welder. If the A-plate is separate from the jack, align the jack (and foot, if equipped) with the jack and coupler as desired before welding using a 3/16 inch fillet weld. The jack A-plate is then bolted to the coupler using three 3/8-16 grade 5 bolts with washers, torque to 15-20 ft. lbs. A support plate should be welded to the bottom of the trailer frame using a 3/16 inch fillet weld.
Yes. All welding must be performed by an AWS certified welder. Place the jack at the desired location and weld 1 inch in 2 locations on both sides of the jack using a 3/16 inch fillet weld.

Use a 3/16 inch fillet weld for all welded tongue jack installations, including direct-mount, A-plate, and pivot tube mounts. All welding must be performed by an AWS certified welder.
1) All welding must be performed by an AWS certified welder. 2) The non-beveled side of the pivot tube is welded to the tongue unless otherwise specified on hardware. 3) Place the weld-on pivot tube against the tongue and weld all around with a 3/16 inch fillet weld. The following procedures should be performed at least annually.
For side-wind models, the internal gearing and bushings of the jack must be kept lubricated. Apply a small amount of automotive grease to the internal gearing by removing the jack cover, or if equipped, use a needle nose applicator or standard grease gun on the lubrication point found on the side of the jack near the crank. Rotate the jack handle to distribute the grease evenly. A lightweight oil must be applied to the handle unit at both sides of the tube for side-wind models. If equipped, the axle bolt and nut assembly of the caster wheel must also be lubricated with the same light weight oil.
For top-wind models, apply a lightweight oil to the screw stem.
If this product is used in a marine environment, flush the jack assembly and bushings with fresh water, and apply fresh lubricant.
