Founded in 1920, Bulldog has become the standard for heavy-duty trailer connection hardware in agricultural, military and utility service. The line covers gooseneck hitches and couplers, A-frame and channel-mount trailer couplers with the Wedge-Latch mechanism, and heavy-duty jacks, built for unmatched strength, reliability and safety under demanding loads.
Bulldog was founded in 1920 and has spent more than a century supplying the connection hardware that heavy trailers depend on. Its market has always been the demanding end: agricultural, military and utility applications where a coupler failure is not an inconvenience but a serious incident. Gooseneck equipment is the brand's signature. Gooseneck hitches mount in the truck bed over the rear axle, which places the load where the chassis can carry it properly and allows far tighter turning than a receiver hitch permits. Matching gooseneck couplers attach at the trailer end, in round tube and square configurations across the capacity range used by livestock, equipment and flatbed trailers.
The conventional trailer coupler range is built around the Wedge-Latch mechanism, which uses a wedge to take up wear between coupler and ball rather than relying on a fixed clamp that loosens over time. That matters on a trailer accumulating hard miles, where slack in the coupling shows up as noise and shock loading. Couplers are offered in A-frame form for standard tongues and in channel-mount form for straight tongue and fabricated frames, with adjustable channel versions that let a coupler be positioned to suit the tongue height.
Heavy-duty jacks complete the line, sized for the tongue weights that gooseneck and equipment trailers generate. A tongue jack is a mechanical device mounted on a trailer tongue that raises and lowers the tongue for coupling and uncoupling from a tow vehicle. It supports the tongue weight when the trailer is stationary and must be fully retracted and rotated before towing.
No. These jacks are not designed for mounting to round tongues. They are designed for flat or rectangular tongues only.
The manual describes six mounting styles: bolt-on rack jack, bolt-on mounting bracket, snap ring, bolt-thru, A-plate (for A-plate couplers), direct-mount (weld-on), and weld-on pivot tube (round or square). A-plate jacks are designed specifically for trailers with A-plate couplers.
Before mounting, confirm there will be no interference from the tow vehicle, tongue, ground, or any other mounted accessories while stationary or in motion. Check for interference in all positions including handle swing and swivel positions if applicable. Check again after installation is complete.
1) Place the gear housing on the tongue and insert supplied bolts in holes corresponding to the tongue width. 2) Place the mounting bracket below the tongue with the flat surface against the tongue. 3) Secure with locknuts and torque to 25 ft. lbs.

Align the holes in the mounting bracket with the holes in the mounting straps. 2) Insert 4 bolts through the mounting bracket and mounting straps. Upper bolts should rest on top of the tongue; lower bolts should be less than 1/16" from the bottom. 3) Secure with locknuts, torque to 25 ft. lbs. 4) Check for clearance of handle, trailer light cables, and coupler.
The gap between the mounting bolts and the tongue is not to exceed 1/16 inch (1.5 mm). This applies to bolt-on mounting bracket installations.
1) Place the jack bracket over the mount and place the snap ring in the groove. 2) Seat the snap ring fully into the groove. Before installing, inspect the snap ring groove and remove any debris.
1) Place the jack bracket into the recessed opening on the mount. 2) Place the small end of the bushing into the jack bracket and onto the bolt. 3) Tighten the locknut until there is little movement in the bushing. Note: The bolt should be installed between the trailer tongue and mount; the jack bracket will be held by the bushing between the locknut and the mount.
A-plate jacks are designed for trailers with A-plate couplers. 1) All welding must be performed by an AWS certified welder. 2) If the A-plate is separate from the jack, align the jack (and foot, if equipped) with the jack and coupler as desired before welding using a 3/16" fillet weld. 3) Bolt the jack A-plate to the coupler using three 3/8-16 grade 5 bolts with washers, torque to 15-20 ft. lbs. 4) Weld the recommended support plate to the bottom of the trailer frame using a 3/16" fillet weld. 5) If your jack is a plain mount type, it may be mounted directly to a coupler with a 3/16" fillet weld. 6) Rack jacks with a similar A-plate incorporated into their design may be attached according to these instructions.
1) All welding must be performed by an AWS certified welder. 2) Place the jack at the desired location. 3) Weld 1 inch in 2 locations on both sides of the jack using a 3/16" fillet weld.

Before manually moving the trailer, crank the jack to its lowest position.
Never position any part of your body under any portion of the product or the load being supported. Secure the load, vehicle, and trailer from rolling by blocking the wheels when operating the jack or coupling the trailer. Do not allow children to play on or around the product or the load being supported. This product is not intended to be used as a transport device for the implement it is attached to; minimize movement of the implement while the jack is under load.
When using the drop foot or drop leg, make certain the supplied pin is fully inserted through both sides of the inner tube and the drop tube before using the jack. If using an optional drop foot or caster, always remove it before towing to maximize ground clearance. Never attempt to adjust the drop foot or drop leg when there is any load on the jack.
If this product has a pivot tube mount, make certain the pivot pin is fully inserted through both sides of the pivot tube and the pivot mount before using the jack.
If this product is a swivel jack, lock the plunger pin into a hole in the mounting bracket before raising or lowering the tongue.
If this product is a rack jack, do not raise the gear housing above the inner tube.
The following procedures should be performed at least annually.
For side-wind models, the internal gearing and bushings must be kept lubricated. Apply a small amount of automotive grease to the internal gearing by removing the jack cover, or if equipped, use a needle nose applicator or standard grease gun on the lubrication point found on the side of the jack near the crank. Rotate the jack handle to distribute the grease evenly. A lightweight oil must be applied to the handle unit at both sides of the tube for side-wind models. If equipped, the axle bolt and nut assembly of the caster wheel must also be lubricated with the same lightweight oil.
For top-wind models, apply a lightweight oil to the screw stem.
If this product is used in a marine environment, flush the jack assembly and bushings with fresh water, and apply fresh lubricant.
To attach a wheel assembly: 1) Insert the long spacer into the wheel. 2) Set the wheel into the caster body and place the bolt through the caster body and wheel. 3) Secure with the nut provided.
To attach a handle assembly: 1) Insert the long spacer into the roller followed by the thin spacer and the bolt. 2) Secure to the crank stem with the nut provided.
To attach a top-wind handle assembly: 1) Place the washer over the screw stem and then place the handle over the screw stem. 2) Secure the handle to the screw stem with the bolt and nut provided.
For a heavy duty caster, use 4 3/8" bolts, washers, and locknuts as shown in the diagram. The jack capacity is limited to the lesser of the jack or caster capacity.
After installation is complete, check for interference again in all positions including handle swing and swivel positions if applicable. For bolt-on mounting bracket installations, verify clearance of the handle, trailer light cables, and coupler.
